Texas General Thread - Where you go to threaten succession and grumble about Californians

This thread is also for Texas culture! Cowboys, rodeos, kolaches, honkey tonk bars, mechanical bulls, Texan gun culture, chili, beef barbeque, and other such joys.
How dare you forget puffy y breakfast tacos? I personally still think I35 should be a toll way and the current tollway between San An and Austin should be the main highway to commute between the cities. Heck, the toll way even swings by the airport!

It kind of sucks, as it takes hours to get from one part of the state to another. Unless you live along the border, if you don’t have good transportation, you could be staying here for years.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park in northwest Texas is gorgeous. I've hiked there three times - the park is the sixth least visited in the nation, mostly due to its remoteness and rugged terrain. This is also what makes the park so stunning and visitors are treated to panoramic mountain views and spacious hiking trails without the crowds.

I genuinely didn't know that, I used to live in San Marcos for like a year and between going to farmers markets and German festivals in New Braunfels I would also go to Austin occasionally to visit a friend's house.

Whenever I saw people into those tshirts I always got pissed that they were just wannabee Portland freaks. I'm sure how I should feel about this now that I know they were the original and Portlandians are the wannabees.

I guess I will just take the patriotic position that our freaks are better than their freaks.

Austin is only called “weird” because of the indie hipsters. There are some weird things (like Eeyore’s birthday party) but when your subculture is as ubiquitous as normie culture it isn’t weird.

I know everyone gets after Austin for being leftist, but that’s all Texas cities. Of course, we still have right wing towns in the middle of nowhere, including sundown towns like Vidor (which is a suburb of Beaumont).

based and pilled. Big Bend NP is also dope and I got to see snow there.
I went to Guadalupe Mountains National Park at 7 years old but I don’t remember it too well. Never been to Big Bend but I hate how astroturfed it is.
Austin is for faggots. Both actual homos and people that act like homos. Texarkana is dump like the rest of east Texas. Hill Country is rad, tho.
Austin is a city with leftist normies and right wing influencers, so it’s an ideology war in the making. I have never been to East Texas but I’ve heard it’s a shithole.

I refuse to allow east Texas slander. I have been to South East Texas plenty and it can be extremely pleasant!!

The Big Thicket area is extremely lush and full of all kinds of life and some of the small towns within are extremely pleasant. Athens Texas, Galveston, lulling, San Marcos. Lufkin a little less so but still not miserable. Personally I like the small towns the best.
Athens and Galveston have some very nice fishing and Lufkin isn't terrible for it either. San Marcos is a very pleasant little college town and my niggas in Lufkin have a local cult and a watermelon thump! It doesn't get better than melon themed festivities and cults!

It was getting gayer in every aspect when I left. No regrets. The city council there is so goddamn retarded and CapMetro's hard-on for their trains was laughable.

Galveston was always a great place for a long weekend to go party. San Marcos has a lot going for it, but I fear it's going to get subsumed by the Austin faggotry simply due to geography and all the development. I still kick myself for not buying out in Wimberely when I had the money for it. Oh well.

how Austonians are ruining Austin
They're called Austinites, and most are Kali transplant faggots, not local born. I was born and raised there, glad to be gone. I wasn't going to raise my kids in that cesspool full of debauchery.
I'd probably move to San Marcos. Like 70k people, college town, has a very nice easy to walk city center market district, some really nice hills and places to visit. Just a pleasant all around place, although it has a slight stink of wannabee Austin about it but that's probably true of all Texas college towns.
San Marcos is ok. It's all mexicants and college students, but there are worse places to live.
I like New Braunfels better.
New Braunfels fucking rocks! It's 3X the size it was, when I lived in the area 30 years ago. Still a cool place to visit, or go eat.

I had a friend who lives in New Braunfels wasn't bad at all.

There is a small town between Lufkin and Houston called Woodville which is a very nice little town with a governor museum library and some nice local places to eat. It has a restaurant/slash museum called the picket house in it which is a southern buffet that serves the same meal family style to every table. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, black eyed peas, greens, chicken dumplings and corn bread and biscuits. It also has all you can drink fresh lemonade and tea. A very very nice place and I eat there whenever I can, with company if I have any.

If you happen to be traveling around the East Coast of Texas Woodville has some nice places to eat and some very very nice old folks. I feel there's a few too many blacks but not so many you feel unsafe.

Kirbyville and Jasper nearby are bigger but not as interesting. Colmesneil right up the road is a tiny town with two restaurants that are both really good, somehow one pissant little town that doesn't even have a grocery store has a really good lake nearby where people like to camp and two really really good restaurants. The Burger House doesn't even take credit cards, it's tiny, made entirely of wood, cash only, and it has pictures of the local homecoming queen and king of every year since WW2 on its walls.

Meanwhile, the bus transport is bad so most people take cars instead.

Galveston is great because it has Victorian Houses. It isn’t always great to live there, though, because of the hurricanes. San Marcos and Wimberly are canaries in the coal mine for faggotry but that’s what happens when you’re that close to it.
