I am done with the Savatage discography. Just a couple of thoughts about the other albums:

Handful of Rain was ok but probably one that I have to revisit since most of the songs barely left any impression on me.
Dead Winter Dead was awful, like it sounds fine and is done well, but something about the songwriting just doesn't sit well with me. Every time I thought any song was starting to get somewhere, it stopped. Really strange LP.
Wake of Magellan was good. Most songs share the same tempo, but the songwriting made sure they all had their own identity. Nice.
Poets and Madmen was also good; it was nice to hear Jon return to be the main vocalist again, even if I was used to Zachary at this point.

Overall, a pretty good discography apart from two duds. Still a lot of good material later on, but their best songs and albums undoubtedly are with both Criss and Jon.

Not entirely sure yet, but I most likely will go through the Lordi discography next. I always liked the band, and there are plenty of records that I have never really heard or some that I haven't listened to in years.

Anything after the Arockalypse, does not really stand out. Just generic hard rock/2000s radio metal. I like them, but their 2010+ material is meh.

From the snippets that I've heard, Sexorcism is great, but apart from that, I don't know anything else about their 2010s material, so it will be interesting going through the discography.

Thanks for this, mainly cause I forgot to write down my notes for the Maiden discography, but outside of some minor changes (Somewhere in Time being the 1b to the 1a that is Powerslave) my opinions have pretty much stayed the same

What are some of the mist CONSISTENT bands? As a DM fan:

Nile - still really damn good despite releasing so many albums. I can't name any weak songs and they never fail live (seen them three or four times). My only complaint is the constantly changing lineup. Oh, well, at least we got Dallas's Narcotic Wasteland as a result.

Cryptopsy - other than the infamous The Unspoken King everything is very solid. Mounier is to this day in the top 10 of DM drummers.

Archspire - I was wary of their last album, but I can't complain too much. They should drop a few signature things they always do, though. Still, I can't name any real duds on any of the 5 albums they've released so far.

Spawn of Possession/Retromorphosis - if you know, you know. Retro may not be AS good as SoP, but it's hard to fail with a lineup like that. I can't stop rewatching Erlend Caspersen's playthrough videos on Youtube.

That's off the top of the head, I can't think of any lesser known bands at the moment because my brain is full of holes. Maybe I'll add some names later.

Has Bolt Thrower ever put out a bad album if you like Bolt Thrower?

Double post edit: how do you filter out the slop on New Standard Elite if i like shit like Trichomoniasis and Nithing when their entire catalog looks like 2008 br00tul MySpace music?

Nile's one of the first ones I thought of, plus Immolation, maybe Asphyx and Autopsy. I'm trying to think of bands with like 10+ albums.

Deceased's one of the only bands I actively look forward to new releases from and they've been around forever, still in top form. Every new release gets a turn as my new favorite.

Do you mean their official site? I have no idea how familiar you are with Encyclopedia Metallum or Discogs, so: ggo through their catalog on both sites, open Youtube in another tab and simply listen to 30 second samples that don't include intros and interludes. This is how I look for new music to listen to. Only YOU know what YOU really like. I can't read your mind!

Off the top of my head, the only band I can think of is Dir En Grey. Even with the two- three times they changed their sound, they still pump out consistently excellent records. Also a great live band.

Started going through the Lordi discography, and I am done with the 2000s material.

Get Heavy - I usually dislike debut albums since they often only show a glimpse of what the band can do, but having revisited it, I am quite surprised. Great record overall. Criticism would be the production; the songwriting is hit or miss sometimes, and the whole " gimmick" is also still not entirely clear.

The Monsterican Dream - Dont want to sound like a pretentious music reviewer, but sophomore slump is pretty appropriate here. Weaker songs and trying to be more serious with the whole monster/horror thing is not necessarily bad but didn't really pan out.

The Arockalypse - Excellent record, amazing songs, great production. No wonder it and Eurovision put the band on the map.

Deadache - Good record a bit weaker than its predecessor, but I think it does a better job with monster/horror stuff.

I use AI to navigate unfamiliar music and tbh it works pretty well, even for fairly obscure stuff.

You listen to the bands nobody shuts the fuck up about. But 70% of their signed bands sound exactly the same so you're not missing out on much

Every (about) 15-20 albums that they release, something great & worthwhile eventually turns up, though

Not that they have very many albums, but for me, it's Atheist. I like every one they put out. Including Jupiter.

I agree about Cryptopsy. Unspoken King aside, there hasn't been any album of theirs that I didn't enjoy listening to. I've also found Suffocation to be fairly consistent, even if some of their albums after reforming aren't quite as memorable as their 90s releases. Ditto for Immolation, although I found their last couple albums to be kind of bland. I preferred the dissonance of albums like Here in After and Close to a World Below. Unholy Cult and Harnessing Ruin are also pretty good, and of course the debut.

While digging through some IDE's I found a bunch of Unknown Artist/Albums with no ID3 tags. I was able to identify everything minus one album.

I got the album from some girl I dated in HS and I'm 100% sure when she was burning cd's she wrote the wrong band name on the cd. I have it in a folder labeled "40 Below Summer" since that's what she had written on the cd. I have listened to all of 40BS's stuff and though it does sound similar at times there way more of a rap thing going on the 40BS. Someone once told me it possible I have a demo from someone like 40BS or Shinedown but IDK. The production quality is immense so this was definitely a studio album; the quality of production vs some of the other indie stuff i found on the drive is like night and day. Other than having done some research myself to prove its not jsut a lost 40BS or Shine down album The only thing I have to go on is that I can swear the first lyrics in the Third song are recycled Maynard poetry/Tool-APC lyrics. "so much can happen in just one year; our lives can change but the stories the same. I'd be lying if I said I wished you were here; but Ill say it anyway"

I have uploaded the first three songs off of the album as well as a bonus early 2000s Essex metal band that were really good called Thaed as a show of the difference in production quality in that early 2000s era with indie and up and coming artists. this band was obviously either signed or working out of a pro studio.

Any help would be appreciated and if anyones interested ill just upload the album in a dm chain.

If we cant figure it out I might just try uploading a track to youtube and seeing if the content id bot grabs it?

Vader (aka the Eagles of death metal)
Incantation
I'd say Cannibal Corpse as well, they've been remaking Kill every few years for 16+ years

In other news: most metal is so shit these days that I've generally abandoned Death Metal and moved on to Doom, ...which turns out to be really good. I listened to Conan and my first thought was "whoa, this is heavier than Mortician".
I've listened to Sunn and Cathedral in the past, but never really got into it.
