it is, don't even have a record player yet but I'll grab one at some point.I encountered this today. I'm kind of ambivalent on it, but it seemed like the kind of thing that might be up the alley of folks around here. The composition with the really prominent jazzy sort of bass reminds me a little bit of Cynic.

I also really liked the first two Sanctuary albums. The third one is ok too but it just sounds like yet another Nevermore album rather than the USPM albums that are Refuge Denied and the more proggy Into the Mirror Black were.Pretty sure alcohol related diabeetus contributed to Warrel Dane's death as well.
Only really liked two Nevermore albums, but his solo albums were cool too.

I want so badly to like power metal. I tried hard to find power metal I like after I got into Galneryus a few years ago but I haven't been able to find something that hits the corny/campy spot just right or not at all. I'm glad you're talking power metal because I actually wanted to post in this thread about Galneryus and ask if there is a good western power metal band that hits the musical style without all the corniness.Never did check out Sanctuary outside of a few songs on each album. Into the Mirror Black seems more up my alley than the others.
He had another 80's band called Serpent's Knight. Murky, poorly produced USPM with tons of theatrical, wild falsetto. Nothing special from the sounds of it, but a cool curiosity if you're into Warrel Dane.
Any love for Blaze Bayley? He gets ragged on a lot for his Maiden stint, but I think he has a great voice that's only gotten better as he aged. His solo stuff is excellent. Probably the hardest working dude in heavy metal. The man lives on the road.

I also like Galneryus and it's as cheesy and flowery as the floweriest Euro-style power metal it's based on. Have you ever tried listening to some of the more flowery Euro-style PM bands like Edguy, HammerFall, Angra, Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Rhapsody of Fire, At Vance? Also another Japanese neoclassical flowery power metal band I can recommend is Lovebites. It's an all-female band but it's not just a gimmick, they're really good. Also can't forget the dudes who started it all - X Japan, try listening to their Art of Life album. Can someone tell me if Galneryus is as corny as other PM bands and I don't realize it because of the language barrier? Any other recommendations like Galneryus?
Thanks for all the recommendations! Hammerfall was the only one of those bands I had listened to prior but I’ve got some new stuff to listen to now. I especially dig Angra and Edguy. I’ll be getting around to more later.I also like Galneryus and it's as cheesy and flowery as the floweriest Euro-style power metal it's based on. YouTube seems to think power metal only means Powerwolf and Sabaton so this has really enlightened me. Thanks again.
Metal vinyl is pretty nuts, I don't think the other genres have entirely caught up yetIs that vinyl? wow, they make them fancy these days.
Yeah I'm honestly surprised you couldn't find any Euro power metal with cheesy high vocals and vaguely classical-influenced melodies. That kind is usually more popular than Powerwolf or Sabaton which are Euro power metal through and through but have a harder edge. Then again I'm an old washed up fart who doesn't know what the kids listen to these days so what would I know. In any case when you're done listening you can ask for more recommendations, I'm sure I'll find some more bands you'll enjoy. Thanks for all the recommendations!
