Any other connoisseurs of metal bands from Asia here? Kept scrolling through my music library and was reminded of a nice band from Taiwan called Chthonic. They play melodic black metal, though it is balanced so it does not go into either extreme. Their discography is a bit of a mixed bag. Production is often an issue. 2011's Takasago Army is probably their best LP. Nothing which is going to set the world on fire, but I always like to return to their last three albums.

Asian metal doesn't get the attention it should because it can sometimes be hard to categorize, and getting physical copies of these albums in the West was difficult before online shopping and digital distribution came along. My favorite example of this is Bellzlleb:

Slayer, but it's slower (and with female vocals), so it's SLOWER (get it?).

Drummer from Monolord, Guitarist from Fu Manchu, and the singer from Year of the Cobra. It does have its own thing, but for the most part, I'd just rather listen to the originals. I mean I know the point is to be slower, but at some points it kind of drags. I still kind of like it in its own way though...especially War Ensemble, when you get into it, you kind of don't want it to end, even though it's like 10 minutes long.

New Unleash the Archers single and music video.

I've been a mindless fanboy of UtA for years but this one just didn't hit me like a lot of their other songs that get singles and videos. I like it fine but it feels like the middle range of what their sound is and what they can do.

Rotoscoping it with Stable Diffusion when the song is from a concept album about sentient AI is a pretty cool idea though. Also, based response:

BMSS is debatable. Not Metal enough for Metal-Archives, but Edelweiss (Hungary) is Metal especially the albums Behind Our Masks and Nomen est Omen. Both are very riffy and in the vein of the NWOBHM:

None of these two bands is actually nationalistic or right wing. Them using certain symbols and stuff is just shithousery. Like Venom doing the satanic stuff.

I do like metal from the land of the Rising Sun.
Galneryus is one everyone knows;

Unlucky Morpheus is pretty solid:

Sigh is a great Black Metal band that was started around the time the Norwegians were on their 2nd wave. Favorite album from them, however, is Gallow's Gallery:

Gallow's Gallery is amazing, love that it is basically a classic heavy metal album. Hangman's Hymn is a damn good follow up. Completely unhinged and crazy. In Somniphobia also is great.

Someone I know called this music like Edelweiss "Nazi prog rock" Kinda based tbh but yeah stoner music mostly shouldn't be lumped in with le serious political bands.

These bands shouldn't be lumped in with bands being serious about politics stuff not bc of their musicial style but bc these bands aren't serious about it.

The Edelweiss people aren't making a secret out of it that it was BMSS that got them to do Edelweiss and they are just doing it for the lulz and for the fun of making music. The playing with certain imagery and stuff is just for the fun.

Will on the other side told me face to face that it's just bullshittery. All this talk about esoteric Hitlerism and whatnot in BMSS by people in the internet is just people in the internet reading way to much into BMSS bc of all the tiny hints BMSS places in artworks and lyrics.

See, Will is running a couple of different bands but abandons them or slows down when he gets bored or thinks he has done everything he wanted with that project. And all the bands he is doing are just expressing different aspects of Rock music/Heavy Metal.

There is Dracula, a Black/Heavy/Thrash Metal band paying tribute to bands like King Diamond/Mercyful Fate.
There is Tarot, a psychedelic/Heavy Metal band paying tribute to Kraut Rock and psychedelic rock.
There is Wizar'd, an old school Heavy Metal band paying tribute to bands like Manilla Road.
There is Torpedo, a Thrash/Speed/Heavy Metal band paying tribute to other old bands of this style.
There is Spectre, a band blending in classic Rock music and Heavy Metal, paying tribute to a lot of old Rock stuff, someone like Shinki Chen.
There is Space Raven, a Doom/Heavy Metal band.
Then he is running Crypt Vapor, a Synthwave band. He collaborated with the guy behind Dungeon Synth band Quest Master to record an EP, a mix of Synthwave and Dungeon Synth.

BMSS is the one band where he enjoys the most creative freedom so far but all the bands and things he is doing are full of references to music from the 60s/70s/80s. It's all about the music, especially about cool guitar solos, the backbone of Rock music. No cool guitar solo, no good Rock band.

@Onni Kalsarikännit cool I didn't realize some of these were the same guy. Seems like the center of some of the best stoner/psych/doom type stuff since the early 2000s when I was really into the resurgence of Pentagram, OM, the second phase of Electric Wizard, and other bands around this scene. I think the last similar thing I was really into before BMSS was Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats with the Night Creeper (and I guess they were around even then but I discovered them later). But I was always on the lookout for stuff with more of this feel:

Makes you wonder if stuff like Motorhead will even get lumped in because of Nazi imagery, Iron crosses and shit like that, and Lemmy's collection. You see shitposts like this all the time, fine line between bait and people being low iq speds.
