Also, I've never given much attention to Immortal but they also have some awesome tracks such as this one
the first 2 albums are fantastic in terms of atmosphere and musicianship. later stuff - a bit samey for my liking, but some people love all of it. the goofynes predominated over the atmosphere in the later years.
There's this band called Ancient whom I listened only one song: Lilith's Embrace.
same story - first album and the trolltaar ep, don't bother with the rest. even trolltaar's extended version has a completely unnecessary sabbath cover.

If you like this stuff, check out Dimmu Borgir's first 2 albums For Al Tid and Stormblast. Also, the one Kvist album. Also Isvind.

Too funny to not share!

Oh how I wish to dream again
I've occasionally listened to Nightwish since the late '90s. I always really liked this song.

Controversial opinion, but I didn't think Anette was a bad singer, she just wasn't very good at singing the songs written for Tarja. Anette had a completely different style. Overall, though, I think Floor sings all the songs better than Tarja and Anette did.

A while ago people were talking about Abysmal Specter's vaious projects but I didn't see his latest album posted (maybe it was one of the thumbnail-less videos from the last few pages):
Amazing but unconventional album. I like that it's some kind of upbeat cross between black metal and dungeon synth. I've been obsessed with it this year but it might not be for everyone. Definite highlights are the title track and The Beast of Gevaudan.

In more traditional metal news it looks like Brian Ross is doing the vocals for both of his old bands, Satan and Blitzkrieg, simultaneously and they both released albums earlier this month which has got to be a lot of work for someone his age.
He doesn't sound like he's aged a day since the 80's though. I haven't listened to these ones enough to give a real opinion on them but I've never been disappointed by anything these bands have put out and these seem no different.

I gave it a listen two or three times but it hasn't really clicked with me so far. But speaking of Black Metal and Dungeon Synth it's Fugitive Wizard for me with their new album. Well, "new". It's older stuff rerecorded (the Extorris Magnus EPs) and they even took the artwork from an earlier release but goddamn is it good.

And they did a follow-up EP just a few weeks after with a new song and again older stuff rerecorded.

Both was released on Wergild and Wergild is on a run this year. Everything they put out so far is just gold, especially the Iron Firmament stuff. Less dungeon synth-y and more Black Metal.

Lander, Flameskull, Unkindness, Tatterdemalion, everything is just so good. You'll find everything on the Wergild bandcamp site.

Boy, oh, boy. I sure do love spending half the concert being unable to hear the openers because whoever is behind the mixing is more deaf than God on 9/11.

Giving the audio setup a workout before the headliner comes out is half of the opener's job, I don't have a huge problem with it.

That would be okay if the headliner didn't take 12 minutes to get started after stepping on stage because of audio issues. What really gets me is that the venue I was at usually had really good mixing. Even more confusing, I could barely hear the gutturals and the screams where literally inaudible for the openers but the instruments were spot on with everything coming in nice. It's just bizarre, thinking about it.

They may have some new blood who were accustomed to setting up for musicians from economically disadvantaged communities where all you need to prep for is a normal speaking voice and repetitive bass beat.

Mayhem playing De Mysteriis with Atilla at some hipster fest. The sound retard set the system up for some gay trip-hop bullshit that was on just before. Couldn't hear the solo in Freezing Moon. The last song was OK, they fixed the sound. Saw one of those non-binary fellas rocking a Mayhem T-shirt and a long skirt. Generally, the turn-out had no business listening to anything outside of Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. Why are they here? Fuck you metal, what happened to you.
