That Voivod one is a good one. I think my pick would probably be Warfare by Jag Panzer, or Witching Hour by Venom. One Rode to Asa Bay, while pretty popular, would be a good filter too. I know in my head what “real” metal is. I think everyone that gets it, gets it, and those that don’t may never get it.
 
Mgla released a song that was ment for the Exercises in futility album but didn't made the cut.

"Song originally composed as part of the album in question. Drums and guitars recorded in 2015 during the album session. Meanwhile decided that album would work better as compact, single-vinyl release. Further recording was therefore discarded and song was archived. Revisited a decade later - bass & vocals recorded August 2025."

 
Missed the release because I am getting old and forget things, but Onmyo-Za released their new LP back in August. And It's pretty good, listened through the LP thrice today. The band plays pretty traditional and melodic heavy metal with an obvious Japanese influence and alternating female and male vocals. Extremely consistent band for over two decades now.

 
Revisiting Symphony X lately since they're finally touring with a new setlist and my buddy said one of the recent shows was fantastic.

I can't believe the same band that released this immediately shit the bed with the Paradise Lost and onward albums.

 

Recent interview with Aaron Gillespie of Underoath. Say what you may about metalcore and christianity, I found it a frank and fascinating interview, well worth the watch. For the satanists here, he talks about evangelizing at Hillsong. "These are some of the worst people I have ever met." Haha, yep.

That's just Pentecostal Christianity in general. Ultimately it's up to people if they want to get off on that stuff and I suspect in terms of brain chemistry is no different that going to see your favourite band.

The reason you should not like Hillsong is their founder was a pedo and the church covered for him.

Spiritual ecstatics is arguably the point of religious ceremony. You think it's fraud because you understand the underlying psychological manipulation but it's merely the biological process of a higher function.

I was listening to Orange Goblin and it made me wonder how many metal duets exist? I can think of 3 from bands I listen to
Made of Rats, Orange Goblin, Coupe de Grace
Jesus Beater, Orange Goblin, Coupe de Grace
Fire in the Loins, Gwar, Ragnarok
 
I like my stoner metal. Saw these guys in a basement when they were on tour with two other rather forgettable bands. They were SO goddamn loud and chill as fuck. He had two 8x12 bass cabs in a glorified root cellar basement with maybe 20-25 people in attendance.
