So uh, this came up.

Pretty cool collab. The song is "very okay", IMO.

Then, the youtoob algorithm blessed me with this dude's channel.

I've been saying the same thing for at least 10 years now.
Holy shit, the new Slipknot single is quite literally the worst thing they’ve put out. These guys are fucking washed! They only exist so that Shawn’s fat ass can cash checks. Retire. Just like Green Day, their shtick does not work when you’re in your 50s.
Yup, how the mighty have fallen.

This was the Slipknot that got me hooked back in 2000. At least to my young impressionable teen ears, they sounded like no one else, I had this "Welcome To Our Neighborhood" music video on VHS.

20+ years older and seeing them now being a shell of their former selves is so depressing.

Here's one for the Slipknot fans.

Have you ever wondered what Slipknot would have sounded like if they stuck to MFKR and Iowa styles and added death metal elements on top of that? Well, there exists a very strange clone band called Apathy Syndrome from the actual same city as Slipknot (Des Moines), they even wear the same style outfits.

Metal Archives lists their genre as simply "groove metal" but I think death/groove metal/nu metal is a more accurate description for their sound.

Also the vocals sort of make me think of Mushroomhead more than Slipknot if that matters. Aside from that, other notable differences from Slipknot is less focus on excessive percussion elements, as well as the lack of a turntable or sampling member, but they have a keyboardist at the very least. Which adds layer to the sound and contributes to the Slipknot-esque identity

If you ever loved Slipknot and crave their heavy shit, their album is a fantastic listen. Especially since nobody really seems to know about these guys

Spotify
Thanks for the rec, these dudes definitely sound like the Slipknot of old.

Also,

The ego on this dude, ffs man.

The average "serious"* anti-Christian won't raise a finger to criticise the Mohammedeans invading their countries (inb4 the tens of bands out of tens of thousands that do), nor the politicians who enable it. I somehow doubt that these brave soldiers will touch the Jews. They're busy being the niggas playing violin as the Titanic goes down.

We're not dealing with radicals here, it's controlled opposition at the very best, probably something even more pathetic in reality. Extreme metal is so domesticated that the establishment doesn't even panic about it any more. Unsigned Tiktok rappers have more subversive influence.

HAILZ LUZIFER AVE SATAN tho xDDD (mad at the internet)

*If you just want to make mindless party music about goats and things, knock yourself out.

Oh, no. No, that's really bad. Sounds like that record where Cypress Hill tried to cash in on nu-metal. It's on Clown's new label with a video directed by Clown, though, so hardly surprising. The man is a berk.

I'm not gonna be one of those retards that says "lol they should just break up or change the name xD" cuz it's obvious it's a very very popular brand name with insane success. Even if everyone quits besides Corey tomorrow it will still be branded as Slipknot because nobody in their entire team and record company would ever let very successful name die no matter what, I have no idea why anyone even says that. They talk about these worldwide legendary ass bands like they're local bands that don't have a giant fucking team of people and hundreds of thousands of dollars involved.

Like think for a second: when Walt Disney died, did Disney rename itself? Imagine if a herd of dumbfucks were like "Disney should just change the name and start over"
Granted, but some artists are still brave enough to do the right thing despite all that, for example: Chester Bennington

It should work, but their execution is extremely poor.

Ningen Isu members are all well into their 50s and they kick some serious ass.

And what's amusing, is that they've been rocking out since the early '90s but many fans agree that they just got better with age - the complete opposite of many western bands.

For anyone who hasn't heard of these guys (like I had a few years ago but the Youtoob algorithm blessed me with their bangers), you owe it to yourselves to give 'em a listen.

I'm kinda mixed on it. Some parts are decent but a lot of it is ass. I haven't kept up with them in a long time so this sound change is jarring, to say the least.
Least it's not as painful as that new A7X EP; that was one of the worst things I've laid my ears on this year lol
I think the ideas on Statica would be fine if anyone else were trying to execute them. They feel like a bad attempt at parroting the genre switch Theory of A Deadman tried WAY back in the day, for a buttrock analogy.

It's crazy because the core concepts and themes are there, and in terms of lyrics and ideas they're some of Mike's better work recently. It's just the decision to throw on this shitty moog filter and absolutely batshit vocal harmonies (ESPECIALLY on the title track) that just make me shake my head. I understand wanting to experiment, and I'll never hold it against an artist for trying something new, but nothing annoys me more than the bones of a good idea going to rot.

Here is an interesting French metal band called Mars Red Sky. They have a sludgy, doom metal/psychedelic sound and their lyrics have an eerie, reverberating quality.

Not enough wigger slam in this thread,
so I'm changing that.

If anyone remembers a Czech slamming brutal death metal band from the past decade or so whos drummer wears a grill while performing this is them. 🥁 They still go mad hard. I can't wait for this album to drop 🇨🇿

start here to get to slammin 🔨

I got really into this style about 20 years ago for about six months. This was my favourite band at the time, and the only stuff I can remember (other than that Liturgy live video, the one where the drummer has a Masonna shirt on):

If any of youse can recommend a bunch of stupid over-the-top badly mixed brutal slamming Death Fuckin Metal like this for me to catch up with, you'd make my Saturday a lot more fun x x x

🤨 Tf is this? You evidently didn't cuz this is definitely not slam... it's fast as fuck blasting brutal death.

This, is slam ⬇️

Because I kept adding to this, I have decided to put it inside a spoiler since even some of slam's super obscure albums deserve love too

Hint for a band to be slam... they need to consistently like, play slams.

No constant blasting, no skank beats. It's all just a sequence of groovy palm muted chugs played in chromatic scale and repeated accordingly. bands that make what are essentially entire songs out of slams (thereby referred to as "slam bands") repeat the riff so that the end result is a sort of brutal steamroller effect

Yeah, as I say, about six months, then never listened to anything like it at all again, because this is 20 years ago and it was clearly a MySpace-fuelled phase. That demo has bits where it slows down and goes 'ooogh' and it sounds like shit; and there my expertise ends. Any time anyone ever recommended slam to me, it was slow and went 'ooogh' and it sounded like shit.

I'll check out your recommendations, ta.

The idea of slam is that it's brutal death metal but it takes the slow mosh parts and effectively makes it the main focal point of the songwriting.

Note that all regular brutal death bands DO usually have some slow groove parts/slams (which is why the one you linked eventually gets to such, as you even said), but the key difference between BDM and slam is that the former uses them sparingly, whereas the latter makes that riff the main ingredient so to speak. In other words, you generally don't have to wait around a minute or two to hear a slam in slam music. Generally, in slamming brutal death, the slam will bash your face in within the first 10-20 seconds. Afterwards, it will continue to bash and bash and bash with more slams after slams after slams and then more slams. They don't stop. And thats the magic of this sick and very ignorant microgenre of brutal death metal. These bands take that sweet groovy breakdown riff and abuse it as an auditory weapon.

Early (slamming) history

The very first band to play slam death metal is Internal Bleeding from new york. I'm not the biggest fan of them, but it definitely was more or less birthed out of new york because both the death metal and hardcore scenes in NY were very centered around that whole breakdown riff that both scenes shared in parralel. And it came with a very wigger-y feel. You got some gold from the NY scene like this in 1996, which I absolutely fucking love. Repudilation is brutal as hell. They got the croaky gutturals, catchy slams and even B-thug movie samples.

And then a year later, Devourment from Texas came into the scene and essentially ripped the style of Repudilation's demo off and made one of their own. (My username on here is actually a Devourment album)

If you want to learn more about this niche genre, I very much recommend reading this article. It's a little outdated and you can tell it was written during the myspace age, but he is spot on with most things he's talking about. He refers to it as "wigger slam metal" for the hilarious effect. But it's all interchangeable terminology.

Anyways, that will conclude the slamtoriography lesson for today.

Yeah, it's terrible. I was never a Slipknot fan, I was in junior high when their self-titled album was released and I'd already moved on to death metal but I could appreciate the fact that they weren't a Korn clone, despite the presence of a DJ. They were harder than a lot of nu metal of the time. But Arsenal is wretched. It sounds like Crazy Town. I don't even know why I bothered listening, maybe simple curiosity. I hadn't heard their music in many years.

I stopped caring about Slipknot after the second album. Both albums have their moments and I'm sure the heaviest parts on Iowa got lots of people into death metal. I skipped the third one and heard Psychosocial from the fourth and knew they were done. I don't know what they were thinking with that vanilla riff. A video shot at 7000000 fps can't make up for it.

I saw them when they were touring Europe with that fancy drumkit that would tilt at a 90 degree angle and spin. It was an absolute blast, probably my all time top 5 metal gig. They sounded great, played all my favorite songs and I thought Taylor was entertaining as a hype man.

I bring you Italian Black Metal with some Darkwave touches here and there.

They caught my attention after this youtoober uploaded his review of the Ostrava 2026 festival, looks like one of the members does something of a "half time show" where she does her performance.

Nice. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

And their stuff isn't half bad either, great stuff all around.

That other band he mentions, Macocha:

These guys are really good.

At the very least, the cutoff should be AHIG.
That is the last true Slipknot album.
I personally don't listen to anything after that record. Vol. 3 and AHIG are fantastic

Side note: my dad actually bought me the special edition with the bundled DVD of AHIG and to this day I don't know where the hell it went :( im pretty good at keeping track of stuff that ive had since i was a kid, so its so odd it just disappeared.

Someone might've stolen it for all I know
