I considered this question recently, and find it a salient one.

If we grant that the woman shouldn't be """forced""" to gestate and give birth to a child on account of the child-- somehow, against all known biological principles-- being a "parasite" that hasn't the right to be in her body, should the father be forced to act as a father to the child or be compelled to pay child support if it's him who doesn't want the child rather than the mother?

And if he doesn't, what could be done? He can't force the woman to get an abortion, and there's no way to prevent the woman from coming after him to ensure that he's legally compelled to pay child support short of changing his entire identity or concealing his identity in the first place.

It's actually very intriguing. In our current societal setup, a woman has the right to kill her child in the womb but there's nothing-- short of not having any resources to begin with-- preventing a man from being compelled under penalty of socioeconomic ruination and jail time from providing his resources to a wife and child he doesn't even live with or want. And while fathers who abandon their children are reviled universally, the moral status of women who kill their own children in the womb has been made into a complicated matter where we have to first debate the humanity of said child (even if it's admitted that the fetus is in fact a "child" by all parties), then the value of that humanity in the face of the woman's bodily autonomy.

I addressed this point earlier in the thread, but all that's needed to highlight the ontological absurdity of this argument is to bring up identical twins. Monozygotic twins share the same DNA, yet they are clearly not the same person. If your aim is to come up with a sustainable definition of personhood, DNA is not sufficient.

If you admit that people can have the same DNA and yet be different people then it logically follows that people who have different DNA are different people.
