The Abortion Debate Containment Thread - Put abortion sperging here.

it is hard to make laws when there are people preventing you from doing so. political obstructionism is an issue. still, perhaps one day, when our country is less retarded, some politician will bring enough people together to go "we should enshrine abortion rights" and hell will likely also freeze over. but i can hope.
Obama had the House and Senate his first two years of presidency.

Yes, but I have a feeling they're going to just encourage retards to think this is the Republicans and Supreme Court's job to fix so they can dodge the whole issue and pretend like it has nothing to do with them and it's out of their hands.
if only politicians actually cared about their constituents more than staying in power and doing virtually nothing because political gridlock is a great way to keep things the same while never actually achieving anything.

The Obama government had a supermajority and did nothing with it except pass a Republican healthcare bill and name it after himself. I generally prefer the DNC's stated policies over the Republicans, but it's undeniable that they're a far worse party, with far worse people running it.

it's weird how passing a law merely needs a simple majority. that feels wrong somehow. i digress. i wonder if obama, in his infinite wisdom, didn't deal with abortion because he knew there were DINOS who wouldn't go for it, or he wanted to retain the status quo and hope that shit wouldn't be overturned by the supreme court.

i disagree with your assertion that democrats are the worse party, although i will concede that the democrats have a serious issue with messaging and frankly just staying on the party line, something conservatives are very, very good at. i guess that was bound to happen since the democrats became a big tent party for everyone that wasn't "conservative".

just democrats doing impotent democrat things, i guess,

Because touching it at all is poison to democrats. Just by bringing it up you're basically nuking the chances of every blue dog and swing seat Dem unless they push back against it, and when they push back against it they're inviting a massive plummet in turnout when regular, committed, left-wing Dems see a bunch of (D)'s refusing to support what had been an accepted, established law protecting reproductive choice for 50 years.

politics fucking sucks.

it would be nice if people could just agree "hey, maybe we should enshrine these things as rights because it would likely be better for society overall and then we wouldn't have to worry about contentious issues being debated by partisan courts." but since optics are everything, you're right that the democrats would hurt themselves if they did try anything. still, though, maybe they fucking should try, instead of sitting and going "nope, nothing we could do," while letting everything crumble around them. shit, at least the republicans have the balls to try dumb shit. it might not always work but at least they fucking TRY.

>doing what your voting base expects you to do is political suicide
i think what she's implying is that not all conservatives are anti-abortion, in the same way not all democrats are pro-choice. i doubt in either case it's a sizable number, but who really knows.

conservatives will never win the popular vote again.

Abortion access is only popular with several conditions attached. Wellbeing of the mother, inviability of the fetus, rape/incest.

If all states don't allow access under those circumstances, we'll wind up with a constitutional amendment granting them.

I'm a fan of infanticide/exposure personally. Dump them in a field and let the rats have them.

How could they do this during pride month?

lol

i agree with those conditions, but as a dirty filthy liberal i also think that abortion should be available regardless of reason, which is obviously what the whole argument is about, it seems.

there appear to be states that are considering full bans on abortions. shit, i'm pretty sure a GOP candidate for the PA senate was willing to ban all abortions. then again, he did lose his primary, so maybe most people aren't completely insane heartless bastards after all.

:horrifying:

edit: goddammit, there's no horrifying rating smiley. this upsets me greatly.

edit 2: lol i'm horrifically wrong. mastriano did win the senate primary in PA, so yes, people are indeed insane, heartless bastards. fetterman better wipe the floor with this fuck.

edit 3: mastriano won GOVERNOR primary, oz won SENATOR primary. fukkin politics reeeeeeee

She's retarded lol
Most are indifferent about abortion until you start pressing that shit on them about how many months in do the democrats consider abortionable.

This is very true, we had an abortion vote in my country and it really opened my eyes to how it splits every demographic. I also assumed that the most aggressive anti abortion activists were men... This was not true, when anti abortion women get going they are so powerful.

I voted for dead babies, but now I wish I hadn't.
