I would best call a vague group known as the 'alt-left' (cmon, not the ctrl-left?) as a mix of orthodox communists and non-liberal leftists who are wary of identity politics and progressivism more broadly. I don't really know how many there are but in the English sphere they're kind of on their own little island ideologically. I don't mind them that much tbh

There were a few attempts at organizing an alt-left in 2017 that were based on opposition to leftist identity politics, opposition to Western imperialism/sandbox adventures, criticism of banks, and support for traditional leftist causes like healthcare and fair wages/unions that actually work. They criticized Antifa as a bunch of stooges paid for by billionaires who were accomplishing nothing. There was very little TDS either since the line was that Trump was at the very least concerned about poor Americans and wasn't out to fuck them over like the Democrats. There was like 2-3 decent blogs I read that espoused this and called themselves alt-left, and they were decent (I probably would disagree with them on more things now, though).

Then Trump used the term "alt-left" to criticize Antifa and weird college SJWs and that was the last time "alt-left" could ever be used.

I think those sorts of alt-leftists are worth tolerating as long as they don't want to let in too many immigrants (fun fact, back 100 years ago the actual elected Socialist Party congressman, who was Jewish, supported restrictions on immigration). People opposed to globalism can't be picky with their allies.

Those people tend to be an eclectic form of Sovietboos like the Economic Freedom Fighters or Bolivia's Evo Morales. They tend to just do what's popular, and only pay lip service to Lenin and Marx. Often their biggest cheerleaders in the west have a fetish for 'em out of pure identity politics (i.g. you can't criticize anything they do because they're non-white indigenous folx!) otherwise that makes you "CIA" or a "wrecker." However, when they do shit like this, or this , western leftists will pretend, or "forget", they never supported them. In fact, most left-wing divisions that happened/happen today are largely because of such "we didn''t know/pretend we didn't know" events.

The issue is the right wing activists that made up the "alt right" had actual policy disagreements with the establishment right. The "alt left" are just leftists who want to rebrand the establishment left as cool and edgy so they can market it to teenagers.

Though considering Richard Spencer was very involved with alt right creation and also very nazilike, it may be a rare case where the left wing reframe was making the term more accurate, whereas the right wing reframe was more of a manipulation.

I suspect this is the case but I have hope the socialist nationalist left consolidates itself. The BSW in Germany needs to focus on agitprop rather than pushing a single candidate and her cult of personality.

Is there really any "Alt" to Alt-left? Kamala and Joe were pretty center, and a bit right (disregard the idpol stuff). The alt-left would be the people who proclaim "we are the REAL left!". Like many other posters here say, its commie tankie skinwalkers who come think communism will bring a hippie commune where nobody needs to work. Stuff like the ACP and Infared and Haz. Also stuff like Revolutionary Blackout Network are a few that come to mind. None of them have actual ground because they are too extreme/far left for the dems, and too far left for the right. I'd say a good mark is anything "Christian Communism" adjacent is "Alt-Left". I feel like none of these "alt-left" movements are ever going to take off since you have liberals and conservatives against them. I think that's why they are such a small part of the left and don't have huge followings. I wouldn't consider Hassan alt left lol.

I also agree with this. The alt-left doesn't look like they like identity politics, which in turn then allows them to be on friendly terms with the alt-right. And then eventually saying fuck this, lemme just go the right.

The alt-right is dead and has been for nearly a decade. There is no such thing as the alt-left. The left is just the left.

The alt-right came about as a response to cuckservatism and normie tier conservatism. Alt-right alternative right. Get it? It's an alternative.

Unfortunately the alt-right was hijacked by a bunch of wignats (think people that want to LARP like 80's and 90's era Neo Nazi skinheads) and it was killed in 12 hours in Charlottesville Virginia back in 2017. It was like watching a building implode. These days no one really talks about the alt-right except people pretending to be alt-right and they are grifters. Then you have the leftist who like to use it as a kind of bogeyman to scare leftist and normies with.

Anyone claiming to be alt-right is just lying. It doesn't exist anymore.

In America, the alt left, also called the "dirtbag left" or "bernie bros", was sabotaged because the Democratic party relies on rich donors and corporations. They wanted to redirect the focus from taxing the rich to racism, sexism, trannies, etc. This was horribly unpopular and led to their recent defeat but they will find it difficult to change course because the incentives aren't there.

There was a brief flare up of "alt left" sentiment with the Israel/Gaza war, but again, a lot of the dem's rich donors are Jews who support Israel so they clamped down on it which hurt their popularity with young people further.
