the alt-right is a general term for people opposed to mainstream American conservatism.
from what I can tell it's for the most part separate from though, overlapping with, the hardcore racist groups. the viewpoints can be pretty diverse in the alt-right with some being pro-gay rights and pro-abortion to extreme patriarchy. It's a mix of paleoconservatives, mens rights activists, "race realists" extreme libretarians, monarchists, eugenicists, immigration opponents among others
