It fits perfectly with their black and white thinking. If "the establishment" says it is true it must be false, and if they say it is false it must be true. That's why conspiracy theories grow over time to incorporate other conspiracies, so you get things like truthers who are also anti-vaxers who are also birthers who are also holocaust-deniers who are also Pluto-flyby deniers. Eventually they start to live in an alternate reality that exists entirely in their collective minds.

I think a lot of them aren't really even interested in any particular issue, they're just sort of into conspiracies in general, so whatever the popular one is at the time is what they jump on. Pluto is in the news? The photographs are hoaxes! It's just like people who describe their music taste as "radio music," they just take what they're given and work with it.

I'm not exactly of the NRx camp but I've read a good amount of Moldbug. You could at least give his works a proper treatment. There are---although it is irrelevant to their ideas---members of NRx who are in the hard sciences.

Lol at this spergy chin-stroking about authoritarian governments not acting in the interest of their people. Wasn't that the point of fascism? Besides that, some of the greatest leaders in the last two centuries were authoritarian. While leaders like Franco squashed the opposition violently you do find increased stability, standards of living and industriousness during his era compared to what the Moscow-controlled Republic was running. Other leaders would include Bismarck, Metternich, et. al for the 19th century. Examples abound. Towering intellectuals of the past have often critiqued parliamentary democracy based on some argument of 'human nature' and concluded that authoritarian forms of government would ultimately be better for its subjects--H.L. Mencken, Edmund Burke, or Carl Schmitt come to mind.

But you haven't heard any of that. Becuz lol xD you'd be thrown in jail, amirite??!

As much as I myself despise RW, with its fedora firmly tipped to the left, their article, while incredibly biased, is still informative. Moldbug makes more than a few good points, but he goes overboard and tries way too hard to make himself sound edgy and smart. He acts as if no one has thought the way that he has before, but I can understand why he'd think that way if he had to live in an area where people overwhelmingly support one political party, and those tend to be the extremist ideologues within that party.

I used to believe conspiracism was a result of not knowing the facts, but, as the study shows, it's more a case of forming your worldview first, and then cherry-picking facts that fit it as you go, and disregarding facts that don't fit it as part of the conspiracy to hide "the truth"

True conspiracists can't be argued with, as they've put themselves in the unassailable position of assuming to already have the answer, and anything short of full agreement is a plot to discredit them. Immune from persuasion, they literally can't be argued with.

But they are fun to poke with a stick and watch them e-rage all over you.

It also ties in nicely with the original subject, the belief that simple answers can solve complex problems, and the only reason the "simple" answers don't work in real politics is because they're sabotaged by corrupt politicians in league with (insert your favorite societal boogeyman here) is why we get these people who honestly think dictatorships driven by those "simple" ideas are the way to go.

Another thing connecting conspiracy theorists and the three-ring sperg circus of the NRx "movement": extreme anti-intellectualism. They've drunk so much Dale Gribble kool-aid that they automatically, mindlessly dismiss anything anyone with an education says. The Jewish space lizards control mainstream science so everything scientists have proven about homeopathy and phrenology being bullshit is wrong and should not be listened to, but Rodney Sperglinger, persecution complex enthusiast and blogger is an authority on why dictatorships are totally awesome. They are people who like feeling smart but they don't like thinking so they demonize people who actually know their shit and stay in their little insular bubbles so they can live without the stress caused by being factually wrong.

Funny how everyone who thinks dictatorships are still a good idea are spoiled, whiny cunts who can't stand dissenting opinions or change.

This is because when they imagine fascism or dictatorship, they put themselves in the role of the dictator.

They don't realize that they are exactly the defectives who would be put against the wall and shot in any real dictatorship, and that they owe their very existence to the tolerance they so despise.

That's the saddest part, they're not only ignorant, but proudly ignorant, we've reached a point in history where it's easier than ever to get information on anything, and yet, those who would benefit the most from it refuse to be "tainted" by it. The "Conspiracy" just grows to discredit it, 50 years ago it was universities that were looked upon with suspicion by these folks, 15 years ago it was "liberal cities" where the big TV networks and newspapers were based, and now, it's everything, "media" that can't be trusted..... even though you can get access to it and comment on it like never before..... ironic.
