🐱 The autistic community does not want Elon Musk to represent them

CatParty

While hosting Saturday Night Live over the weekend, Elon Musk announced to the world that he’s autistic by incorrectly claiming that he’s the show’s first-ever openly autistic host—and a lot of autistic people really wish he hadn’t.

Elon Musk 'came out' as autistic on SNL & the press are going wild with how this is good representation
Meanwhile every autistic person I know is treating this representation with the same joy that the trans community has for Caitlyn Jenner or vegans & asexuals have for Morrissey

after hearing that elon musk said he has asperger's ive decided to undiagnose myself as autistic <3 thank you all for being here for me during this horrible, horrible time
— enemy of the state (@bananahomo) May 10, 2021
After learning that Elon Musk is autistic I have decided to un-autism myself. I am now neurotypical. Who wants to hear about my Normal Interests (golf) at a Normal Amount.

Elon Musk being autistic is setting us back 3 decades
— Madi. 💜 (@softdemidevil) May 10, 2021
Elon Musk coming out as autistic means I finally get how the trans community feel about Caitlyn Jenner.
— Joe Wells (@joewellscomic) May 9, 2021
During his opening monologue, Musk addressed his rising unpopularity, seeming to blame it on a combination of jealousy over his “achievements” and hatred of autistic people.

Elon Musk being like “sorry if I offended anyone I’m autistic” bro so am I and I’m somehow not a union busting piece of shit
— Shannon (@SpoonShannon) May 10, 2021
Elon Musk is not a good representation for the community. Him revealing his disability does not automatically make him a saint nor does it erase his previous actions.
And the narrative that his achievements are extra incredible since he’s autistic….he’s a billionaire, Karen..
— Ella Willis (@EllaEllaaW) May 10, 2021
I dont care if elon musk has autism or not, I'll still hate him based on his values and actions that he chooses to make as an autistic person.
— ANTIFA animal guy #BLM (@burningfyra) May 10, 2021
It’s unclear whether he actually believes it or whether he’s trying to use his diagnosis, and the ever-increasing awareness of and opposition to ableism, to dodge what little criticism his wealth and cis white male privilege doesn’t already deflect.

Just so we are perfectly clear on how I feel about Elon Musk:
He is harmful.
The fact that he just came out as autistic doesn‘t change that fact one bit.
And if you feel the need to put your little idol worship over people‘s lives, feel free to join my blocklist ❤️ https://t.co/nMtr4m1CLK

Elon Musk is not an autistic icon
he is just another rich white man who exploits the labour of the people
most autistic people despise injustice and could never do what he does
i'll say it again, Elon Musk is NOT an autistic icon
— 'that autistic bitch' x (@autisticbitchx) May 9, 2021
If any of you yuppies ask if I’ve heard that musk is autistic, I’m going to point to my body of work and ask if I should care.
He’s just another white disabled guy gearing up to hide the harm he’s caused in his diagnosis…or have you forgotten…https://t.co/BUgBpF7SRY
— Imani Barbarin, MAGC | Crutches&Spice ♿️ (@Imani_Barbarin) May 10, 2021
Regardless, many autistic people are concerned that his apparent lack of empathy, a tendency towards ethically questionable business practices, and tone-deaf Twitter behavior are all going to be blamed on his diagnosis—and then projected onto everyone else with autism as a result.

Yes Autistic people feel empathy, Elon Musk is just a horrible person, but NOT because he’s autistic. Read that again.
— Disabled_Eliza (@DisabledEliza) May 10, 2021
Being an asshole is not a symptom of being autistic.
It just so happens that Elon Musk is both.
— Shannon Dingle (@ShannonDingle) May 9, 2021
I guess Elon Musk is autistic? Huge win for the ableism movement.
— bionicle enthusiast (@bionuncle) May 10, 2021
Just want to point out that Elon Musk designing a vessel that was never used for the Thai rescue and then subsequently calling one of the diver a pedophile is not autistic behaviour but entitled rich white guy behaviour
— Hantu the Undiagnosable

The fact that he chose to identify himself as Aspergic rather than autistic has also rubbed a lot of the community wrong. While Asperger’s was still in use as a diagnostic label until relatively recently, there are very good reasons for its retirement. The distinction between autism and Asperger’s was first made by Nazi pediatrician Hans Asperger and was intended to separate people on the autistic spectrum into two categories —those who could be useful to neurotypical society, and those to be euthanized.

Hans Asperger was a literal Nazi who sent disabled children to camps where they were experimented on and killed, and Asperger Syndrome has often been used differentiate the "smart" and "productive" people on the spectrum from those who are seen as undesirable. (2/4)
— Thad (@Tyranicus) May 10, 2021
Finally, Elon Musk is an asshole, and it's not because he's autistic. Autism didn't make him call the guy who help rescue those kids from a cave a pedophile. Autism didn't make him mock gender pronoun usage. Autism didn't make him call pandemic precautions "fascist." (4/4)
— Thad (@Tyranicus) May 10, 2021
Though some older people and ESL speakers still use the Asperger’s label because it’s what they’re used to, choosing to identify that way is often met with suspicion due to this. Especially as there is a history of “aspie supremacy” within the broader autistic community, as some of those with the Asperger’s diagnosis attempted to paint themselves as distinct and superior to those with other spectrum diagnoses.

…why they might be afraid of using the term autistic instead. I don't respect people who use Aspergers to distance themselves from the label of autism. I don't respect when people use the term for anyone but themselves (or for an individual who identifies with it)
— Jessalyn Elliott Small (@JessalynSmall) May 10, 2021
like bro you are literally the richest person on earth, the very person who would be least affected by the stigma against the term autistic, but you still couldn’t stand to be associated with us. fucking gross
— Erika Heidewald, Proud Autistic Bitch (@erikaheidewald) May 9, 2021
Figures that elon musk would identify more with the outdated term “aspergers” (which isn’t a diagnosis in the dsm anymore, it’s all ASD, aspergers was named for a nazi that split the “useful” autistics from the rest of us, in order to save only the Good ones from the camps).
— Noor ☭

Given Musk’s recent proposition to “solve” autism via Neuralink, his neural-technology company that hopes to install microchips in people’s brains, people are finding his choice of self-identification suspect for all sorts of reasons.

Remember that time Elon Musk said his brain chip could “fix” autism? And now he’s saying he has “Aspergers”? Fuuuuuuuuuck
— Asher Wolf (@Asher_Wolf) May 9, 2021
Elon Musk was just in the news for wanting to implant a chip that "cures" autism and schizophrenia. Now, after backlash from the Autistic community, he is claiming membership of that community. I think it is sensible for us to be untrusting of this announcement.
— mae.slim (@slimdote) May 10, 2021
On top of the whole 'being a billionaire = exploitation and also the apartheid stuff and also backing violent coups in South America to protect his own profit', Elon Musk literally wants to put chips in our brains to make us neurotypical. He shouldn't be ANYONE'S autistic hero.
— Erin Ekins (she/her) (@QueerlyAutistic) May 9, 2021
On a pettier level, a lot of autistic people did not appreciate Musk’s deliberate reinforcement of the idea that autistic people are incapable of being funny.

really upsetting how Elon Musk hosting SNL has managed to reinforce the harmful and untrue stereotype that autistic people aren't capable of humor
— Epidoomerologist Gritty (@mumbly_joe) May 10, 2021
I'm autistic and I'm fucking hilarious
— Bimborpheus (@Bimborpheus) May 10, 2021
“He has aspergers that’s why his jokes didn’t land!” I have autism and I am 100% more hilarious than Elon Musk will ever be. It has nothing to do with neurodivergence and everything to do with the fact he’s a out of touch billionaire
— keith castillo (@nonbinarybird) May 10, 2021
There are plenty of autistic people out there who are funny as fuck (Hannah Gadsby and previous SNL hosts Chris Rock and Dan Aykroyd come to mind). Elon Musk just isn’t one of them.

I guess I just don’t understand why this is about community.

The man either is or is not an autist. If he is, he is an example of the group of people who are autistic, which is all the autistic community is.

But just like they think sexual orientation is a fandom, they think all their invented and occasionally authentic disorders are fandoms.

You can’t gatekeep a disorder, nor can you gatekeep an immutable characteristic like sexual orientation. But everything is a fandom to these children. Nothing is real.

Is that really the reason I almost got thrown into a tard wrangler class in Middle School. That was around the time they decided Assburgers doesn't exist.
Yeah it got merged with asd, thats one of the issues I have with it too, is that despite what the sensitive autists say, there is a difference between functionality, like look at this nigga elon musk, he has bitches, money, and spacex rocket ship go brrr, do you think your normie autist would be capable of managing an empire as big as his?
Its like we're sacrificing the potential of future elon musks because tards bought into the intersectional shit.

Is it merged because of feelings or was there an extensive study done? Because they are supposed to be two different things and putting kids of wildly different functioning levels together means kids who have a better chance get treated like tards.

The Cope :story:

I will give them this, they are funny to us, at their expense of course.
I'm an aspie, and I know something that these #ACTUALLYAUTISTIC UWU people don't: if you have to SAY that you're funny, you're not funny. They have to stop kidding themselves, they're just salty that they're not remotely as successful as Musk, even though they could be if they got up off their lazy asses, stopped posting on Twitter, and actually applied themselves IRL. They won't do that, though, because all they want are asspats, and nothing more.
Where are all these "communities" coming from that claim to speak for everyone even remotely like them?
From the Cult of Narcissistic Wokeism.

Feelings, if I remember for a bit the pysch community waited until people start reeing and in the us the quiet;y merged everybody into the official as asd label, it is exactly what they're doing, all tards are tards, but not all tards are created equal, theres varying level of tardness, and because some aspies fall on to the higher function label, the lower functioning level autists reed until every one was treated clinically on the same level. if it was really about the name itself then they would've renamed aspergergers, but the connotations that come with aspergers being more on the higher functioning level, is essentially, what made them merged it, I pretty much dropped out in the middle of the whole merging, of things, and had no trouble getting my ged in like what, 6 months? so obviously I'm not tarded enough for the tard class, if anything I struggle with maths. but thats whats the extent of my tardiness.

What community? Autistics aren't really known for having a social life.

I guess in Clown World speak, "community" just means "a kind of people".
It means online community. Autistic people are prone to being more social online. Sometimes to their detriment, as this forum demonstrates.

The man of that calibre, the man who leads active social live, made a ton of money, has multitude of chilldren and married a super star about 15 years younger than, says he is autistic?
Honestly, this is an insult to all real autists, thats an insult to one of my struggling relative. He is as normie as it gets, he is the king of normies.
God how do I hate this man. He plays normies like a fiddle and they keep bowing down and taking it up their asses.
Most of the time I see someone representing the autistic "community", they don't represent it at all. Usually is a fairly attractive woman with minor autism that can get by and along with people fine.
Its rarely the kind of people who are on the bad end of the spectrum, can't connect with other people at all and openly wish they were not autistic so they could be human.

Glad I was diagnosed a sperg when I could be. I may be socially inept but I'm not a retard who can't function normally.

Why the fuck does there have to be a "Community" for every possible thing in existence?

It's the internet, I guess.

Also you know how commie regimes like to call themselves the "people's republic" or some propaganda BS like that? Maybe the woke cult likes the word "community" because social "justice" is so divisive?

I'd rather have a successful retard like Elon Musk represent autism than a dumb retard. It could push more autistic people to make something of themselves rather than failing epically while blaming said blunder on their 'tism.

And if I had to pick between Musk or Gates, I'm not picking the homosexual man-turtle.

Elon obviously hasn't invented anything to perfect his acting skills. He was basically retarded on snl.

Of course he's an Aspie.

Imagine being Elon Musk. Imagine lying in bed awake at night, staring at the ceiling. The reason why you can't sleep is because you can't stop thinking about how, in that dark, soggy cave, Vernon Unsworth's nuts are going to rub all over those boys' asses right through his wetsuit as he wrestles them through tight underwater crevices.

You rise from bed, sitting down at your drafting table. In order to prevent this eventuality from happening, you engineer a full-body condom to contain the kids and keep them separate from the diver's body.

twitter.png

The cave diver with years of experience in one of the most deadly professions known to man rejects it. In the throes of your narcissism and indignation, you're absolutely, positively sure that there can be no valid reason for this, like navigating through tight spaces where the rigidity of a huge metal cylinder may prove counterproductive. No, there can only be one reason why he wants to touch those missing kids so badly. He wants to feel up those boys while they're sopping wet. He is British, after all.

You open up Twitter. Your fingers rest on the keyboard. You play your symphony of raw, unadulterated 'tism.

Judging by all these tweets, I think the author of the article assumed that the autistic community was the retard community.
