Do any of you guys have an opinion on cooking bratwurst with beer? Is it worth it?
View attachment 6070919
1000% worth it, especially if you use a slow cooker/crockpot.

This is my go-to recipe. Its one of my favorite meals during the Fall and football season. I've also used a plethora of different beers outside of lagers. I've used Oktoberfests, amber ales, pumpkin ales, etc. Just don't try cooking these in pisswater like light beer, or something crazy like a sour or something lol. If you stick with fall beers, the recipe is pretty much fool proof.

And to make it extra indulgent, put the beer brat and sauerkraut on a warmed pretzel bun. SO good.

Also, if cooking with beer interests you, just look up some recipes that call for Guinness. I refuse to cook beef stew without Guinness these days for example ... And baking any chocolate desserts with Guinness will change your life. Seriously, even just getting some boxed chocolate cake and subbing water for Guinness will make that cake taste like a million bucks.

What are your opinions on Yuengling? Personally I like it, especially Lord Chesterfield Ale. Not too hoppy, not too lite.
Yuengling is delicious. It's been a go-to beer for me since I became a beer drinker in my early 20s. Usually when a bar has Yuengling and I don't know what beer I want, I usually just get that and I'm a happy camper.

The classic lager is my personal favorite, but I've also enjoyed the Oktoberfest and Black & Tan. Lord Chesterfield is fine, just not my favorite from Yuengling.

Indeed. I saw a security hologram of you killing Yuenglings.

In all seriousness, I tried the lager a couple of times and it's really good. I hardly ever see it in my neck of the woods though, which is a shame.

joining the thread late, have we already discussed the taste vs price vs effect paradigm?

I drink a cheap shit supermarket white label larger from France. My favourite beer is a [redacted power level] local brew that is prohibitively expensive, my favourite cheap mass market shit is hop house 13 made by the Guinness company but it's it's still 35% more expensive than what a drink normally.

I'd put beer rating as follows Taste-20% effect-30% price-50%
Beer rating should be:
10% Luck
20% Skill
15% Concentrated Power of Will
5% Pleasure
50% Pain
100% Reason to Remember the Name

Thread tax: Kona Brewery has a solid Longboard Lager. Not for the IPA-centric crowd where I'm at, so my decent options are limited.

Ever had the Chocolate Stout? Best dessert beer I've ever had, even better than the fruity ones.

It's mostly found on the East Coast but there is discussion of them going nationwide.

The best black and tan isn't the one they sell but the one you get if the bar can mix the two from the tap.

And the best black and tans contain Guinness.

But the bottled Yuengling stuff ain't bad.
Growing up we had family in New England and they would always want us to bring the black and tan. My aunt, would always put the box on TOP of the trash to rub it in to the neighbors "look what we got"

It's weird, I really don't drink (but when I do I post) beer much, I have a sour monkey tall boy on my table top night, but thats all the beer I drink. If I'm out and have a beer, despite being middle age adult and not broke, I kinda just look at menu and go for highest ABV and grab that.

It's probably for the best I've lost my desire to drink beer much, but kinda feel bummed out something I enjoyed trying new things and all just isn't there for me anymore. IPAs are just all the same (and I used to be big into them). I was at Weyerbacher brewery and got some of the fancy super high ABV stouts that a single bottle will be a full nights drinking, their "basic" stuff is meh but I had a "Dallas Sucks" it's a fine enough session beer but most of the stuff they have is pretty darn potent and I didn't think "hey I have to drive an hour home 11% pint will be fine" was a good idea.

My personal favorite, go-to IPAs come from Dogfish Head Brewery. For some reason, they freaking know how to make an IPA taste smooth and mellow. Their IPAs are actually among the first I've ever tried, and to me, they are still my favorite.

Maine Beer Company's "Lunch" and Russian River Brewing Company's "Pliny the Elder" are stellar too.

But yeah, you're right ... The vast majority of IPAs just blur together at this point. I haven't been motivated to try out new ones for multiple years now. Every new one I try, I'm just like "Yeah ... That's an IPA ... And that's a hazy IPA ... Yawn."

Oh I know Dog Fish Head very well, friend of mine worked for them and actually did all the A/V stuff for the pubs and Sam's house many moons ago, the Beer I had when the Phillies won the World Series in 2008 was out of Sam's basement!

90 is a good go to for sure. I miss the 75 that was perfect because the 90 is 9% and I guess I'm snobby enough 60 is mid to me.

Maine's Lunch is top notch and the Dinner is even better! Pliny is one of those like perfect rates, it's def go too but neither are easy to cop around here and if so, it's singles only no taking a 6 pack home.

One beer I miss, was everything Laginitus, had something called Waldo, that was bomb. Everything they make is pretty damn good tho. Since I'm the old man and most fiscally stable in my Alum Rugby group, I buy the beer for us and while I love them, they ain't picky and we want something easy to drink. It's PBR. I do kinda miss beer, I actually like the X mas stuff very boozey tasting can nurse a single all night, so that's something to look forward too.

Just feels weird falling out of love with beer. Even now as I'm winding down, instead of a beer, I'm sipping a vodka martini.

I love 60 Minute as a go-to lower ABV beer. 90 Minute is amazing though. They used to have 75 Minute in bottles (which was SO good), but apparently at their breweries and restaurants they make their own 75 minute cocktail by combining the 60 and 90 ... So you can technically make it yourself.

Have you tried the 120 Minute? That stuff is dangerously smooth and decadent ... And it has the highest legal amount of ABV before Dogfish can't legally call it a beer anymore, lol. You can even age the stuff for up to 10 years. My husband and I bought ourselves a ton for our wedding, and we have split bottles for special occasions and celebrations throughout the years. The more you age it, the more boozy and wine-y it tastes.

Lagunitas makes me mad. lol. Literally every time they create a beer that I love, those a-holes discontinue it. They used to make my favorite Christmas beer called "Brown Shugah," which was a strong, sweet, and smooth IPA.

Right now, I miss beer (I'm pregnant right now lol), but I get what you mean about falling out of love with beer. I used to really enjoy trying new kinds of beer, but I'm at the point where I know what I like and I like to stick with what I like. The craft beer bubble is 100% going to burst because of how oversaturated it is. I enjoy my cocktails, too (especially whiskey) ... My husband and I have a weekly tradition of having Old Fashioneds (well, for now it's just him enjoying those haha).

Have you tried any of Dogfish's spirits? Their vodka is pretty dang good, but I am in love with their gin.

I've had the old school dog fish malt likka. That was actually pretty darn good. I've had the vodka a few times. I have a few 120s tucked away and world wide stouts. Those are definitely not a "I'm doing anything else today" kinda beer lol.

I don't touch gin, long story but good to know is it more a floral or dry?

Old fashioneds are good one. Yeah I think it's over saturated as a market and there's too many meh out there kinda takes fun out to end up trying stuff and getting so many mids. I rather something be well done but not my style or awful and a fun story.

Congratulations on the little one!

something strange is going on with beer. the weekly discounts got real incredible over the last month.
got my election night crate of finest bavarian Helles for 12.99, normaly those 20 bottle creates dont go below 14.99 on discount.

Managed to snag some Guinness extra stout in a 6-pack for $9 at a random Food Lion, still have a few left over. I was seized today with a strong desire for a bock, looking up found out Yuengilng Bock is back in regular rotation, hopefully I can find some in my region. Anyone got any niche bock recommendations? I won't touch Shiner Bock because 1. it's WAY overpriced and 2. it contains caramel coloring. There's a liquor store here that has a massive selection of stuff I have never even tried.

I love to mix beer, one of the oldest local breweries here will happily pour you a dirty blonde (blonde + brown ale) or a mudslide (50% porter and 50% stout) if you ask nicely. I haven't had a good Black and tan (or half and half, if you don't want to upset someone's Irish sensibilities) in forever but I found out there's an Irish pub about half an hour from my house that has Guinness and Harp on tap, I might make the drive out there just to have one.

I have a few beers I like but there's this old shop relatively close by that buys random old craft beer stock that will expire in a few months for dirt cheap and sells it dirt cheap so I get $12 4 packs of Sycamore pints for $2.99 lol it fucking rules. $30 at this place will keep you and a couple friends hammered all weekend. They get a lot of Sycamore Pumpkin latte blonde in and I love coffee so I get it a lot. But as far as my go to daily sippers Yuengling, Blue Moon and Red Oak are all great in my book.

Have any of your ever tried a Treehouse IPA? They are seemingly only in the north east of the US, but allegedly they are great
