The Beer Thread

Just tried some Goose Island Bourbon County Stout.

It got great reviews online and I was super excited to try mine, but I couldn't even finish my pint. It was so sickly sweet it made me feel like vomiting. I love bourbon and I adore imperial stouts, but this shit tasted like the beer equivalent of mixing every soda at the fountain drink machine together at once. Fruit, chocolate, coffee, honey and oak all combined together in a way that didn't mesh at all, with the consistency of cough syrup.

Founder's Canadian Breakfast Stout. Took way too long to drink, was way overpriced, but very delicious.

Having a Joseph Holt Maplemoon at the mo. Still a fantastic beer, not too much maple syrup, and not too bitter either.

I found actual imported Pabst Blue Ribbon at the local grocery store yesterday. I'm not sure what I was expecting from an imported beer that cost less than midrange domestic beers from major breweries, but Jesus it was bad.

This is the problem I have in the USA reconciling my like of PBR and being a picky cunt about cans. The only places that have PBR in bottles (with the god-tier caps) want decent beer level money for it. And decent beer cost defeats the purpose of PBR.

I used to know a bar that didn't serve food so they let you bring in Taco Bell, and they had cheap draft PBR so it was mostly great.

Buffalo Wild Wings used to have cheap draft PBR if you signed up for their mailing list, too, which was cheap shit wings and cheap shit beer. Great for hanging out and playing WoW at. No idea how it is these days.

picky cunt about cans

I was the same until recently.

I've aways been happy to drink lager out of a can but was a snob about ale, which should come from a bottle (at twice the price).

My local supermarket had a too-good-to-miss deal on Courage Director's in cans so I bit the bullet and bought a load. I found that pouring the beer into a glass and just giving it a few seconds, got rid of the tinny taste that cans seem to impart to beer.

I generally like Zwickls, will try those later today.

If I drink again after that binge last night I think I'll go for a dark beer. Probably way more satisfying. Problem is it's hard to come by besides the local beers sold in grocery stores around here.

Slumming it tonight.

Out of the 3 brands my local convenience shop does deals on, this is probably the best

Filled a 64 ounce growler with a dark brew from the local brewery. It has a hint of maple in it. My dad and I drank a combined 30 ounces of it.

Bassomatic, got his hands on a 1 year old Dog Fish Head 120 min IPA tonight.

I am not feeling pain, wonderful beer. Even if 17 wasn't a great batch (first was trashed)
