The Beer Thread

for lagers and pilsners my favourite is Staropramen, strong but with real flavour; for ales, I'll try owt once, though Gold Hobgoblin, Riggwelter and Guiness West Indies Porter are my perennial favourites

also I'm fortunate enough to live within 30 miles of several excellent Yorkshire breweries (Elland, Ossett, Tim Taylor's and Acorn), all of which are sold on tap in nearby pubs; Ossett even have their own chain of pubs, and Tim Taylor's and Acorn are regularly sold in supermarkets

Ever had any of Black Sheep's beers? They're pretty good too.

I have - and Riggwelter is one of their stronger ones, as hinted at in the name:

Riggwelter Ale takes its name from a local Yorkshire Dales farming term which has Norse roots; “rygg” meaning back, and “velte” meaning to overturn.

A sheep is said to be rigged or ‘riggwelted’ when it has rolled onto its back and is unable to get back up without assistance.

I like beer. Beer tastes delicious. But I have a rule that I have to run a mile for every beer I imbibe. Because beer without exercise will make you fat. And I don't want to be fat again.

I'm like an amateur in beer I always get the same kind but I like the taste ; either Heineken 1664 or desperados

If we're sticking to widely available stuff, Pilsner Urquell is the god-king of beer. If you can't get it straight from the tank in the Czech Republic, then buy it in the 0.5L cans:

If you like stouts, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. This one specifically, not just Guinness Extra Stout:

Cheers to beer, the cause of and solution to all of life's problems.

Came home from a hell of a day at work, to shovel snow for a few hours
I earned these bad boys

They are pretty darn good and pack a wallop. 4pack for 10 bucks, be spun twice not bad not bad.

Man this stuff packs a punch. Tastes a lot better than Redd's Wicked Apple too. I wish we could buy Trader Joe's 8% beer for $3.50 a 6 pack like they can in California.

Crabbie's are doing a thing recently where they add ginger to other types of beer. The IPA is pretty good, but the Stout is something else! My God, try this beer if you find it!

Actually having a Pabst Blue Ribbon now (Tesco got in the big ol' bottles and six packs). It's not actually bad. Nowhere quite as good as Sam Adams (my favourite American local brew that I've tried so far, still interested in Natty Boh) but I can see myself getting in a douchey mood during the summer, grabbing a six pack, chilling those fuckers then going to Heaton Park and launching the empties at the geese.

Working as a busboy means that I have access to beer that's normally out of my range. Last night was a tall glass of Weihenstephaner Korbinian, followed by two glasses of Hofbrau Original as post-work beers. While the former is great if you like syrupy, double dark beers, I enjoyed the Hofbrau Original more due to it's lighter flavor.

Csiki, a Transylvanian Hungarian brand, is my favorite beer right now:

It has a relatively high alcohol content and a great, full taste. The blue-and-gold one is honey beer, with a lovely, balanced sweetness to it. There's also a blueberry flavored variation that's delicious with a healthy alcohol level of 7,5.

I apologize for the thread necromancy, but I wonder if we can also discuss hard cider in this thread as well?

I don't care much for beer (except Heineken) but I love me some cider.

My favorites are Bold Rock and Smith & Forge.
