The Beer Thread

Firestone special releases these have all been amazing. Especially the dark ray. Top of my list are porter's and stouts.

Had Firestone Walker Kriekey Bones? That's a sour cherry, good beer. You'll probably like Pilsner's too. Timmermans strawberry was good, can't find it anywhere anymore though. Also Petrus Cherry Chocolate stout is really good.
I can try those. I might be getting a job at a liquor store, so maybe I'll buy something new here and there for, uh, market research... Or even if I don't get it I'll still do that.

I cannot for the life of me drink beer. Think it tastes like carbonated piss half the time. I usually drink liquor instead. When I do drink by the bottle, it's typically hard ciders.
I love hard ciders. They're my number one drink of choice when I'm not drinking liquor. It's too bad where I am there's only like 4 brands to choose from. But they're good. I want to find a real perry sometime, one that isn't just cider with pear mixed in.

On the topic of "alcohol that's not beer but has similar ABV" is draft mead. I only know one brand (Meridian Hive), but they're lemon mead is delicious. I don't know if it's technically true mead though? But that's enough of getting off topic.

I've had home-brewed mead before at a debate watch party (because every CR group has that one libertarian survivalist type it seems). I thought it was pretty good, just wish I could find some commercial stuff on the regular and potentially make it for myself.

There’s a few brands in stores near me. They differ in quality. Not to powerlevel but I’m a friend of a friend of a person who owns a meadery. Great stuff, and great people. I also go to renaissance fairs and people will make their own mead or flavor their own liquor and bring it to share.

potentially make it for myself.
Take it from a home brewer and distiller, mead is a fucking pain in the ass.
You want to learn to brew, start with wine or hard cider, which is piss-easy.
Then move on to beer, which is a bit tougher.
Mead is the final boss of home brewing because it takes fucking ages with multiple rackings, any one of which can fuck your brew, and honey kills yeast if not sufficiently diluted.

Guinness isn't my favorite for actually drinking but it makes a great reduction. Half Guinness, half brown sugar, heat until it just barely starts to bubble, reduce heat, simmer until reduced to about half its volume. Great to top your favorite pot roast recipe, also you can substitute Guinness for some of the beef broth.

You can really use any stout but if it's better than Guinness I'd generally prefer to drink it.

This leads to a potentially interesting conversation, cooking with beer.

Any recipes you lot want to share?

I sometimes cook the mince in Hobgoblin beer when I make chili, it legit brings out a ton of flavour in the meat.

Any chili recipe with water, you can substitute beer. And again, a stout works fine. I don't mind using Corona either, and again, it's almost a cooking beer because I wouldn't want to drink it. I think using a really good beer is a waste because you only get the most prominent notes after stewing it for hours.

That reduction is really good on almost anything where you'd ordinarily use a sweet/savory sauce.

Been into this one recently, pretty nice actually, little costly though.
I like malt beer, goes well with meaty foods!

Where have all the Foster's Lager oil cans gone? I haven't seen them for months.

Go ahead and bully me for my white trash tastes, I don't care.

Are those germanic glass good? You know with the lids and handles.
My tobacco's shop sell them and they aren't that expensive.

Anything imported is getting absolutely fucking rogered because of the knock-on effects of lockdowns/import delays from muh COVID. Imported wines are COMPLETELY fucked right now. Non-domestic beers are getting stupidly hard to find. It's retarded and it makes me pretty fucking MOTI tbh.

I love a good mead. Your mere mention just caused me to buy five sets of every Meridian Hive beverage on Drizzly and five bottles of their 'Broken Crown'. Hope they're good.

Anyways, as for beer, one of my favorites was ShockTop Honeycrisp Apple Wheat. I say was, because it's unfortunately not made anymore. But God damn was it good.

I think lately i've grown really fond of the Asahi dry beer, but I'm honestly fond of most types of Sapporo as well.
I recently got into drinking beer, the flavor of them grew on me fast despite my usual preference for fruity / sweet alcohol.

I've decided to try sour beers, so far I got a Sierra Nevada wild little thing. It wasn't bad but I want something more sour than that.

Had some Berry Blast Smirnoff while I was out golfing with my dad for graduation, it tasted fucking great and it's one of my favorite alcoholic beverages next to the one that's literal root beer.

Girl and/or fag detected. If neither, faggot detected.

Started brewing my own ginger beer, and I got to taste it the other day.

I think I may have overdone it with the lemons.
I'd love to venture into brewing my own wild beers, cider, mead or wine. I just don't have the space or know-how right now. But soon.

I tried a razzmatazz, aka a sour raspberry ale from (512) Brewing Co. It's pretty good, though I'd say it actually tastes somewhat like a pickle beer I've tried in terms of the sour notes. But with raspberry. Sour and wild ales are the few beers types I enjoy. Maybe because they don't contain/taste as much of hops?

Also if cider counts, I tried Ace cider and it's absolutely amazing. My current favorite besides maybe Austin Eastciders. The dry is a classic cider, and the guava, pineapple, and pear flavors aren't just "hints". They're full on fruit flavor. I've had three brands' pineapple cider and this was the best.
