I saw a birb in the park today with a bright red-orange belly and head feathers. Unusual because usually the birds around here are either brown, grey, or black.

(In the same park awhile back, I spotted some bright green tropical birds in a flock. Who knows how they got there.)

Was it this birb?

then most "exotic" birbs like parrots, parakeets, macaws that are not in their natural habitat are ones that escaped or were let loose by their owners.

Cooper's Hawk, I think. We have a good number of hawks around the neighborhood but it was suprising to see one just chillin on the sign like that. He let me get pretty close for a picture. I thought I saw a hawk a few days ago in a nearby tree so it might be the same one.

In the early days of the coof I went to a zoo that had a parakeet exhibit. There was like nobody in the park, and only a few attendants, the whole place was basically empty. Outside the birb enclosure they had a little stand where you could buy popsicle sticks that had been dipped in birdseed. The lady told me to just raise my arm up and the birds would come over if they were hungry. Well, because the place had been so empty, when I did that, 30, 40 birds flew directly at me and landed all over my arms and head and hand. Then, more landed the ground and started climbing up my shoes and pants. After a few seconds I realized I had dropped the seed stick when the flock flew at me, but the birds didn't give a shit, they were climbing all over me and nipping my clothes and licking my fingers and generally having a good time. It was fucking awesome.
