The Boys - An Amazon Prime adaptation of the Ennis comic series

I felt like the third episode (latest as of this post) was just this:
The Stilwell scene felt like something out of Preacher. Not sure if it was intentional but fun for the Ennis-tards 🤣

Edit because Im actively watching: Deep driving the zoomer mobile and dropping "nepo-daddy" in reference to Soldier Boy made me burst out laughing 😂

I can sum up all episodes with this image.

This season is getting almost zero attention online.

In a shocking twist, Homelander has mental breakdown where a hallucination tells him that he needs to let go of his humanity and just kill mother fuckers.

Why did Homelander not warn Soldier Boy about the virus if he was so invested in Soldier Boy surviving?

We are not having Stan Edgar trying to have the moral high ground about Butcher killing his enemy.

Ryan is easily convinced to kill himself to kill Homelander.

Homelander has taken over the country and is a threat to the entire planet; but sure, fucking destroy the only thing you have to kill him just to spite Butcher.

The only two black guys bond over the truth that capitalism is the real villain here

"Yeah, we let them destroy the only hope we have of saving the planet and walk. Because we're not MONSTERS like you."

Weird how Hughie doesn't explain the fact that he had no choice in killing Translucent. Translucent came to kill him and would have gotten Homelander to melt Hughie into slag if he wasn't killed. His death had nothing to do with Hughie being angry and just wanting to do something. With the rest of the bullshit moralizing, it seems like the show is trying to portray that moment as a mistake the Hughie needed to overcome rather than the grim reality of their situation.

Annine breaks down into tears over... killing a murderous psychopath trying to kill them all. What the fuck are we doing!?

Feels out of character for Homelander to deny raping Butcher's wife. Like, he's not even desperate for Ryan's connection anymore to the point he opens with the assumption that Ryan is begging for forgiveness. Homelander's response should be 'I mean, sure, but she was worthless human. Why do you care?'

I like how Superman Hitler has chucked half the planet in concentration camps but they still have to stick a "capitalism is da real villian" in there.

If I was Homelander irl I would put Seth Rogan in a concentration camp for being so gay and cringe.

The show has fallen into the same trap that every TV show that gets popular does. There are zero stakes to anything that is happening.

"Soldier Boy got hit with the virus that kills supes!". No worries, he's fine by the beginning of the next episode.

"Homelander beats his son to death because he is spiraling further away from his humanity!". Nope, Ryan is actually fine and we find out he is still alive not even 5 minutes after that scene.

Successful TV shows inevitably turn into Hollywood slop because there's always the chance of another season/spin-off/whatever so the people making them don't want to take chances with their writing.

Wow, the writing seems to have gotten even worse somehow.

Can't lie, I am kind of impressed. I wouldn't have believed that was even possible.

This is how Amazon does things. Poor marketing. Little promotion. Releases of new episodes at 3AM EST when no one is watching. They just dump their shows in the middle of week at night with no buzz or buildup to anything. They also have multiple spinoff shows that could be showing trailers or behind the scenes production building off of the finale season of their main show. But instead they do nothing.

Grim fall-off. They touted the first two seasons pretty hard (I didn't even know the show existed until I saw a trailer for the first season playing at a movie theater) and now it's like they couldn't give less of a fuck. It might as well be end-of-life slop like Supernatural or Vampire Diaries with the attention it's been handled.

As I suspected, they made Ryan a totally obnoxious, selfish, and psychotic faggot as a way of making the story drag on for longer than it needs to.

It's probably not helping that the latest Invincible and Daredevil seasons released at the exact same time either. God knows why Amazon and Disney thought that was a smart idea.

Invincible with its 2 frame per second animation and png dragging is putting up better numbers than this show? I guess western animation isn't completely dead :story:

So, I'm as much of a tourist as it gets when it comes to this series, just popping in now and then because I did read all of the comics, and while it is a very, VERY flawed piece of work, I do have a soft spot for Ennis's eternal teenager edge.

But holy fuck, I saw the last episode just now, and I'm speechless on how clunky the writing is. It isn't just bad but borderline nonsensical, especially that vision scene with Homelander.

I know it was supposed to play for laughs, with the light boobs and all, but even in being a satire, it lacks any sort of wit to land the joke. Sure, the original comic was a sledgehammer, but at least it had some genuine fun with the concept. The series tries to be over the top and juvenile at times, but it seems lost in between doing a tired Trump and right-wing satire, comical violence, and genuine drama about past traumas and loss.

The series picked a concept and characters that the writers never really managed to make it fit the vision they had for the show, and it shows in a bizarre identity crisis, but the real irony here is that the very concept of the series is kind of fucked, and they are stuck with something they can't quite dress up because of the fundamental flaws.

In short:

The actor playing Mothers Millks neck is now so skinny compared to his head, that I'm actually perplexed how that could happen. He looks so sickly. Like AIDS sickly.

So is Homelander schitzo now? How the fuck did the writers of this series think that would somehow make him more I dunno despicable when it's obvious he won't be all out evil if he's mentally ill? Like I'm not even sure Homelander was aware he was trying to kill his son Ryan? That scene just seems weirdly shot and it went from some sort of struggle to Homelander trying to murder him, ok? Maybe the producers of this series really don't know how to end it because this third episode was a mess with the narrative?

They already had that problem when Homelander went back to the lab that tortured and humiliated him as a child and hammered in the fact that Homelander is a victim of the system too, but it's ok to demonize the mentally ill if they disagree with you I guess. Also Homelander being insane isn't new, he had a full on conversation between his human side and his supe side in a mirror in the previous season. They just really have no idea how to keep this story going and are just throwing anything and everything at the wall whether it sticks or not because people will clap regardless because Trumplander bad.

The way Kripke behaves, he'd be fine if the fans of the show stop watching as long as "The Wrong People" are pissed off by it.
