The Boys - An Amazon Prime adaptation of the Ennis comic series

Didn't like season 4 at all. The show got so on the nose faggy it was borderline unwatchable.
I like hate watching the show. It’s honestly more fun to hate watch it than to take it seriously. I mainly watch it for Homelander, and to see what current topic can get gracelessly shoehorned in. The writers could have done a lot better making the protagonists more compelling, and Starlight’s character became more annoying than interesting quickly. The writers know they don’t have a compelling story without Homelander, which is why he can’t be killed off until the last season.

The first episode was cool but continuing to be seriously engaged after that is the hyper delusional optimism of the modern age in microcosm

The acting for Gen V season 2 is genuinely so bad, like the dialogue does not come across as natural and the guy playing Cipher was very awkward in the 4th episode especially in the scene with Cate even after he revealed that he does in fact have powers. I would say that the reason why the dialogue is so bad is because they're talking about issues with no real emotion behind what they're saying. They all have the same way of saying things too which indicates to me that somebody in the writing department is refusing to collaborate with others resulting in the same typing style and words being used when making the script.
This is a mistake that is to be expected in film school, not on a spinoff series with millions on the line.

I feel like the entire ethos of this show is a Hollywood Jew who has been told his entire life that he is oppressed/ oppression is just around the corner bitching about politics rather than adapting an annoying Englishman-pretending-to-be-Scottish’s comic book.

The comic book isn’t even that good. It’s military wank without anything that makes military wank good. Like military wank is cool if it was superior tactics to take down a physically superior opponent. The comic book was some edgy faggot shit.

I just hope that they focus more on the dynamic between Sage and Homelander. Someone in the writing department actually has a fucking brain and is trying to finish off the series with a good historical parallel. My only complaint about season 4 is that they are too on the nose about issues and it doesn’t come across as creative.

The ideal dynamic for Sage/Homelander would have been to make her a spy for a secret group of supes (think the High's Cabal from Warren Ellis's Stormwatch run) and end season four with her group staging a coup and basically forcing Homelander on the run, a wanted fugitive and give him a redemption arc to help Butcher and Starlight stop them.

Homelander is meant to be irredeemable and is written as such. I prefer the historical parallel because it makes the role of Sage more independent which fits with her character as an intelligent black woman sick of people disregarding what she has to say (very self inserty but it holds some truth).

The comic as a whole was really gay and dorky when it came to its military/commie/anarchist fetishism and I'd never buy it, but a couple of parts where it's just Ennis seething at superhero comics in completely psychotic ways were actually funny. Also the late 00s nihilism of the comic is almost quaint compared to the relentless social media-addicted faggotry of the show. Neither one is good but the comic's retardation was slightly more charming/authentic in retrospect.

You bothered to get all the way to ep 4?

My wife and I threw in the towel 2/3 of the way into ep 2. Gen V has gotten as bad as The Boys, if not worse!

Gen V has always been a shittier show than the Boys for me; the on the nose political commentary always seemed lazy and half assed so they could get reddit updoots like with the goat named Elon Musk getting ripped apart by Marie.
The only time I enjoyed the political commentary of the Boys Universe was in season 2 because Stormfront was an interesting character that they killed off way too early.

Season 1 of Gen V was at least a little fun with some of the "super-powered college kid hijinx" stuff.

Powering my way through Gen V. Of course it undoes season 1's cliffhanger instantly, because nothing can have consequences anymore. Every character has the same personality with SHIT FUCK PISS dialogue layered atop the grating agitprop of "see see le evul MAGA chuddies said dumb topical thing please clap" that will age like milk in a few years. Even Peacemaker S2, which is much worse with the banter, managed to keep a lid on the hysteria for a minute. Contrived melodrama about how the black kween escaping prison early is bad somehow. Magneto kid was written out fairly enough given the circumstances, but they tossed out his dad's epilepsy arc to semi-replace his story role.
