Does anyone feel like these two movies should be subtitled: "the dark side of autism"?
Pretty sure the Collector is just an angry autist. I saw these movies forever ago and recently rewatched them, they aren't that bad if you're simply looking for something entertaining that doesn't really make you think about anything.
I'm currently waiting on a whole bunch of shit IRL, I've got a lot of time to kill atm and I'm coming off of a bunch of shit too. It took a small pharmacy to keep me going the last few months. Can anybody recommend some entertaining movies, not too dissimilar from these? I haven't been able to watch horror movies for the last 6 years so I think I'd like to catch up on any "decent" recent ones first.
Funny Games (2007) wasn't bad either. That one tends to make people I show it to upset though. I just tell them, you can't watch it from the victims' perspective or you'll find it deeply upsetting. It's more fun when you choose to identify with the psychos/heroes/survivors instead.
God I wish Deadpool was still around... (horror) comic suggestions are also welcome.
Only God Forgives was pretty good, imo. His mom in that was a complete fucking nutcase. Drive wasn't bad, but I'm looking more for horror or psychological thriller. I need some fresh, vicarious mayhem. I enjoyed that movie Antichrist with Willem Dafoe but I've already seen the rest of that trilogy. "Chaos Reigns." Indeed.
I dunno, maybe I should just go drive out to the middle of nowhere so I can practice my secret dance moves. lmfao

I was wondering if this was some kind of remake of The Collector (1965), but it's not. The 1965 is really good though, a psychological horror about a man who kidnaps a woman and tries to stockholm syndrome her into loving him.

The book is great, we actually studied it in school. The happiness of the music adds to the unsettling atmosphere, although my one criticism is that Terrance Stamp was really too good looking to play Frederick.
The Collector was a good twist on the slasher genre, The Collection sucked absolute ass. If you want a good comic about someone with autism then read The Mask.
I saw most of what was recommended by now, The Killing of a Sacred Deer was my favorite. So strange, brutal and a bit mystical. It was awesome. The House that Jack Built... Lars sure has a way of making films that make you downright uncomfortable. I don't think I'll ever need to watch that one again, but I don't regret watching it.

This sounds like Captivity, 2007. I'll have to check out the 1965 film sometime.
I enjoy more odd films because one thing I hate about mainstream/Hollywood movies is that they're so fucking predictable. All the cape-shit stuff, you couldn't pay me to sit through that. Old movies are also great because they weren't AS predictable as the Hollywood movies are today. Today, I think a lot of films must be generated very strictly by some formula. They're just so.. formulaic. They found out what the average joe is willing to pay for, so they said "let's just keep doing this same shit forever." Also some other foreign (Korean) stuff like original Oldboy/vengeance trilogy is nice because it isn't following the Hollywood formula.
