I was just thinking this week that Jirard might be getting a thread here pretty soon, but I definitely didn't expect this. Though I've also learned to wait for a response before jumping to conclusions.

As for why Jirard might have been getting a thread here: California. That pretty much sums it up.

Jirard has been an avid defender of people like ProJared, Arin Hanson, Jesse Cox, and multiple others who political sperge. I know Alex, his partner in his Let's Play show Super Beard Bros, was notorious for retweeting political shit and likely still is. One of his editors, Tom, was the son of Jamie Lee Curtis, and now I believe he's trans, but don't quote me on that. Jirard's girlfriend Amanda has been going by they/them for years. I'm sure there is more but it's all stuff that I've seen people poke fun of on other threads. It's also leaked over to his content every so often. The one I remember was when he made a very weird Elon Musk buying Twitter joke awhile back.

Jirard himself has been mostly controversy free. The one exception was the removal of his previous partner Greg where he took down the first 120 videos of the Completionist at his request. It was not a pretty breakup and Jirard tried so hard to not have it be another Jon leaving Game Grumps situation. I looked into this one back in the day, and I likely still have some of the links/stories, so if there ever is a full thread on Jirard, I'll post what I have, but I do know that Jirard banned all mentions of Greg at his office.

Jirard has also been complaining about his mental health for years, and it's gotten worse the last two. He completes a game every week and running a company isn't easy and he's been very open about having multiple different therapists. One company and one for mental health. He also has health issues due to a rare disorder called Blue something that causes growths to appear both outside and inside his body. He's gotten a couple of major surgeries for it, including a couple from his intestines.

Jirard's family is also very rich. You can see this in some of his older videos where he lives in a mansion in LA and his father owns several different business including a gas station. What's interesting though is that he has repeatedly stated that the Completionist doesn't make any money, thus the Patreon, and he's been very adamant about saying how he doesn't want to fire his friends and has to outright refuse anytime any of them ask for a raise. Despite this, Jirard bought a house back in 2016 or 2017 in LA, and it's quite sizable considering it has a pool.

To me, it's a lot of them don't want to just come off as normal or even a little whole; they really go for the "We're friends, and... AND I REALLY LIKE YOU!" without crossing into stalker territory. And the amount of "look at all this good stuff I do" comes off as very performative to me, though that could just be my mistrust and paranoia about people. I figure that's part of the trick to get all the parasocial relationships streamers and shit seem to get; and maybe they don't mean to be like that, but it's the vibe I get, especially because viewers become donators, and donators can be very generous for simply feeling like you're friends. But then your lizard brain kicks in and realize these people don't do much but play videogames. I'm a bit of a 100%/Completionist myself, but I also recognize I don't have the charisma or character to make a career out of it; and so when I see someone market themselves as such, it's not professional jealousy, but I can seriously say "That's not that fucking impressive." Then throw in all the stuff they're serious/passionate/etc about and yeah, roll your fucking eyes at them. The sole exception is Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson, that dude just comes off like a slimey used car salesmen; you'd want your lawyer to read over anything he says, because you might end up with his finger up your ass and you somehow agreed to it in writing.

Maybe it's my autism that doesn't make me buy into their schtick, or maybe, just maybe... being a completionist isn't that big of a fucking deal, nerd.

I don't think that's the case, because Jirad's charity has been going for quite some time, 10 years I guess, way before the whole G4 debacle.

If anything, this story is fucking weird, why is he just letting the money sit on a account? Yeah, there is the fact they are taking some of it for "expenses", and that can be a can of worms on itself, but I get the feeling that this is more about lazyness and incompetence, than being a actual scam.

Thing is, charities in general are a headache, and while I would like to avoid the hyperbole of saying they are all are scams, once the money reaches the beneficiaries of said charities, there is little to no way of telling how that money will be spent or if it will even have a tangible effect in the cause or are you supporting or it is just giving money to some intern institucional burocracy, as ONGs and such do have a problem of staff bloat.

And I know this isn't the issue here, and like I said, this story is weird as fuck, in 10 years they couldn't find anyone to donate the money to? There are plenty of dementia/Alzheimer's resarch institutes in the US, which do have a whole legal aparatus to receive donations so you can be square with the IRS, this whole thing seems to be a headache born out of incompetence, because if they wanted to pocket the money, there are plenty of ways to do so, and it isn't like Jirad is really hurting for cash, he might not have the biggest channel or views, but he takes on a lot of paid promotions.

I think it’s so obvious at this point that the donation money has been his personal bank account this entire time and he’s been getting away with it. He’s been dancing around the issue “oh what donation do you think I should donate to Muta?” Is him shitting his pants knowing full well most of that money has been spent and he has no way to account for it and it hasn’t just been “sitting there”. Which might be the dumbest fucking excuse I’ve heard in awhile. Your sitting on hundred of thousands of dollars based of donations and haven’t picked a single charity to donate to in three years? The most telling part about Jirard's character is him constantly trying to keep up appearances at every step. He knew the money wasn't being donated but he went ahead with the next Indieland and recited the same talking points anyway, because announcing a delay until problems were sorted or picking another charity that wasn't in his name would look bad. His biggest concern when being contacted about it was that making the donation at that point in time would look like an admission of guilt. His attitude in the Discord call came off as incredibly passive-aggressive about them covering the story "for content", to try to push the sour tone of the conversation onto Mutahar and Karl instead of himself.

It's hard to tell whether he was actively trying to scam people and got caught or whether he's just been taken for a ride by his family running the thing, but either way his hands are dirty for playing along with it after being informed what was going on. This should open your eyes to just how fake his public persona really is, and I bet if you were to dig into other facets of his life you'd find even more dirt he's tried to downplay like this.

Personally I really want to see a detailed breakdown of the expenses - I'm curious how an organisation that does literally fuck all manages to spend about ten grand a year.
