I can't be the only kiwi on this farm that likes this series.

I like Contra a lot.

I guess it's the aesthetic, they're very unabashedly based on American action movies, the original basically being Rambo clones fighting xenomorphs and terrorists. It developed into its own thing but it still felt very Western and manly. The music is amazing, the gameplay is fast-paced, precise, and ass-kicking hard.

I still haven't finished Contra Hard Corps.

In regards to Contra, first game and its sequel were fun. Only played those along with Neo Contra, a short game that pretty much can be beaten in a day within maybe an hour to two. In regards to American action movies, the face of Bill and Lance on the title screen were reference to Schwarzenegger and Stallone if I'm not mistaken.

Even through I don't get far in the first game, It's still really fun. I need to get a second person one of these days to play with. The other ones I played is 4 and Super C.

I legit own the FC cart.
Fun story about learning about international commerce through experience.

Up until then I'd bought crap from Japan on ebay. Paypal wasn't a thing yet so you'd go to the Post Office and buy an international money order and mail it to Japan.
Then I found a Contra cart going for about $15 less it usually does from Thailand. Turns out there was a reason.

You didn't just buy and international MO and stick it an envelope with the address. Thailand you had to file a request for a money order with the US Department Of Mailing Money Orders To Shady Countries, and then after they read and approve it _they_ follow the instructions on your 3"x5" slip of paper. So I have to cross my fingers and hope [address] "FC Contra ebay #1235151235" manages to get through.

About half a year later I was pleasantly surprised to get my game.

Yep, Contra 4 added two new characters based on Vinn Diesel and Wesley Snipes too; to keep the theme going.

And Hard Corps added a wolfman with robot arms and a woman.

Contra is pretty diverse when you think about it

I have weird experiences with Contra.

This is because I'm 90% sure that I played Contra: Hard Corps on a Super Nintendo.

Yes, I know it's the Mega Drive game. Don't care. My friend who had the game used a Super Nintendo cartridge on a Super Nintendo to play some kind of run-and-gun shooting game with a level select mode, and when I look it up, I find it too similar to Hard Corps.

Seriously, what.

The waterfall level on the original WILL cost you friendships.

It KILLS YOU if the other guy GETS TOO FAR AHEAD!

Me? Bitter? oh, a tad......

I too, am a long-time fan. My first-ever video series posted on Youtube was me and three friends beating Contra Force in a challenge run.

Hard Corps: Uprising is also great, if you don't mind its DLC pushing.

Sadly, Contra is just one more franchise Konami has killed and turned into fucking fucking slot machines:

Dude, fuck Contra. Me and my brother spend hours upon hours playing Contra and Hard Corps and now he's a convicted felon. Coincidence?

Contra is massively harder when you're with another person. Totally kills the rhythm of running straight through.

It's ass.

Me.

I thought there would be online multiplayer but no. It's better that there isn't, I guess, I just enjoy playing Contra 2 player and have a few Contra playing friends overseas.
huh, i figured there would be online.

oh well, theres only one dude i know that would be interested in playing and hes always busy anyways

Contra is alright. I'm not crazy about it. I beat the SNES one, and can't even get through the first stage of the Genesis one without rage quitting, but it looks badass.
