The Cool Awesome Arachnid Thread! - A thread dedicated to the best/worst animals!

I only like tarantulas. They are fluffy, good at pest control and very smart. The local species around here is the Fireleg and you can easily see one on the open field if you are paying attention.

They are rather nervous and their venom is not harmful to humans and they rarely bite (and it feels like a bee sting), but they do use their hair as a defense mechanism when thry feel threatened. Still, they are really cute and edgy looking with those colors

:(

Tried to encourage both the Mexcana and Dwarf Tarantula to eat, both refused regardless of what livefoods were offered. Found them dead today and I'm heartbroken.
Sorry for your loss. Slings are so delicate, that's the shitty part about keeping inverts. Sometimes they just die for no reason because they're such small, fragile creatures.

I fed spodlers last night
Have anything interesting?

Feels bad, man

This

New world desert species seem to be hardier than old world and tropical in my experience. Slings are notoriously difficult- would almost exclusively recommend starting with something that has a few moults under it.

If you're deadset on spiderlings, do some research on native habitat and when they hatch. You've either got to have the environment perfect or give them enough space to regulate on their own.

Nothing too crazy, vinegaroons and tailless whips are probably the most exotic arachnids I've ever had. Right now I just have some Ts, a rosehip, red-knee, striped knee, mysore ornamental, and bird eater than is a pet hole.
Pet hole indeed.
Ornamental anything has always been big bucks for a creepy crawly, but they're some of the best looking out there.
Had an M. balfouri communal setup once upon a time. Not the coolest to look at, but the idea of a bunch of them living in one habitat made my inner sperg happy.

It appears that I am actually forming a bond with one of my spiders. Do any of you remember this classic video?

Well imagine doing that with one of these.

My girl actively approaches me and will hold my pinky with her feelers. She'll even let me carefully pet her. She's a keeper for sure!
