The Critical Drinker

There are definitely way worse reviewers out there, and he’s made some funny videos, but overall, his content just doesn’t appeal to me.

I’m not bothered so much by the drunken schtick as much as I am by his very normie taste in media and regular bitching about politics. Like yeah, I get it, SJWs and Woke Culture suck, but I don’t need to hear about it in a movie review. If I did, I’d just watch a Tim Pool or Sargon Of Akkad video.

I like his scripted movie reviews.

His livestreams are boring as fuck though.

Was listening to one of his non-schtick older videos where he's just normal-guy doing a normal analysis. Was kind of jarring, and amusing, since his videos seem to always be in-character now. Admittedly a little dry of a listen though.

Insert the same "his drunkard shtick can get a bit old but he's still one of the better Youtube reviewers" comment that a dozen other people have made on this form.

Yeah, I do feel his persona would start getting a bit old for anyone much older then their early twenties, I still find him an entertaining enough Youtuber who, like many others have also said, makes for good background noise while working, or something to watch while eating lunch.

He also has the added benefit of being Scottish, so I very rarely have to hear him bring up American politic's in his videos. I'm so sick of hearing "Democrats this" and "Republicans that" in non-political Youtube channels that hearing a semi-plastered Scot rant about nothing more political then forced diversity in films is actually refreshing by comparison. Which I realize is really sad when I type it out.

I'm gonna say this, it's fine that you like him but I don't. And that's basically due to his Anti-SJW stuff no BS pulls. He isn't the worst Anti-SJW youtuber, but at times it makes me feel that whatever he says about a movie or TV show has lost all meaning.

YouTube's extremely gay algorithm seems to think I like this performatively inebriated Irish guy, but he's not even a real alcoholic and the "heh SJW's :smug:" thing is almost as obnoxious as SJWs. I don't want to hear about SJWs, unless they've all died of AIDS or something it's a waste of time. I'm surprised people didn't get bored of the outrage / counter-outrage clickbait model of producing content by 2015 or so.

I also don't give a fuck about goofy comic book movies for retards, so it's a no from me. But I will give him credit for not being Ethan van Skriver, and he seems smarter and more likeable than most Youtubers, so hopefully he goes on to better things.

There's a real shortage of anybody with anything insightful or original or just interesting to say about movies. That's partly because movies are complete shit now, I guess, but they can't all be garbage. Can they?

At least at one point in time, his homosexual fanbase was really, really trying to get the RedLetterMedia fanbase to warm up to him getting more and more upset when they didn't. It got me kind of curious as to how they themselves percieve RedLetterMedia if they think Le Based Fakedrunk would actually appeal to the fans of the RLM guys.

I like them both for different reasons, but I'm also not the type to get into autistic fits over disagreeing with my internet friends, so what do I know?

I used to watch him a while back but unsubscribed because he kept reusing the same reaction clips multiple times per video (over multiple videos) to the extent where it got grating. I don't mind his drunkard persona - it's entertaining. I think some of the other humor-related qualities of his videos are hackneyed, however.

He does raise interesting points in his video essays and draws attention to logical inconsistencies in movies. It's something to play in the background while you eat. Watching his old videos where he tears up shitty movies is always a treat. However, I feel at this point that other reviewers could be equally succinct but less repetitive in their presentation.
