The Critical Drinker

The movie is doing poorly everywhere besides the US so he might as well have said he is an American.
DC has always eaten shit in China. BvS did slightly better; this has metastasized into the theory that there is a vast, "Snyder cult" operating deep within China.

The numbers indicate that MoS started relatively strong, then the bottom fell out. Wonder Woman was D.O.A. in China and neither Suicide Squad movie got released there. It's creepy how many people still say the Snyderverse had global appeal.

I've heard from friends this one was pretty bad compared to Superman. It's weird that both CD and Nerdrotic seem to be saying it's good. The trailer looks terrible. I have my doubts. I think I'll just wait to pirate this one.
That honestly surprises me, because I just assumed the new Fantastic Four movie was supposed to be the big chess piece for setting up Avengers: Doomsday or whatever the fuck. Like if I'm Marvel, I'm not taking any chances, I want it to absolutely body Superman, but I guess we’re at the point where even people who used to watch every Marvel movie are like nah.

Pedro Pascal is also in this weird spot, with half the people wanting him to be their husband and the other half just refreshing X dot com hoping he gets #MeToo’d so they can feel something.

All it does is establish the Fantastic Four on this version of Earth. There's one thing related, but it's so brief it's meaningless. Unless there's a tie in we don't know yet. It seems to only serve as an introduction to the characters and I assume you won't need to have seen this for Avengers: Doomsday.

If I was to make a guess, Avengers: Doomcock might begin on their earth before inevitably going to the other one.

I've found the commentary around Superman to be quite off. Where it doesn't seem like they're talking about the film I saw. Overly nitpicky. I feel they had the bar set too high for Superman or had some issue that got in the way of enjoying it. Like they went in with their minds made up and so it couldn't win them over. Maybe they're more precious with Superman?

They definitely have a much lower standard for FF. For all the complaints one can make about Superman, it's a really entertaining film. I'm even considering seeing it again in theatres. It was a great time.

FF starts out pretty decent with a lot to like but ends up being badly written and dull at the end. You're just watching it go through the motions as the writers don't know what to do with the story they started. So it's dumb, predictable and they don't even know how to do interesting action with the team's powers. It's incredibly generic. I'm glad I saw the film, it had potential that it squandered. That potential is there for subsequent films. It firmly lands in the pile of Marvel content that I doubt I will ever rewatch. Which is basically all Marvel content these days.

Where as I feel like Superman could be better on a subsequent watch as I know the world. I can only imagine FF would be worse on future viewings.

Nah, difference of opinion there. I'm not as heavily invested as some Snyderstans that I've been in contact with, but I didn't like it a great deal. Would've been better as a Supergirl movie since I feel that getting stirred up over social media and being blind to most of the ways the world you've grown up most of your life functions is something that Kara would've been better suited to. That and the shithead dog would be better off in her care.

I felt like Sue was way too much of a driving force behind everything, basically moving the plot forward continuously and being in more positions of power than the other guys. Might as well have called it Sue Storm and the Three Stooges. The others had scenes, but they all felt sidelined and don't accomplish much.

My biggest complaint about the film is how pathetic Galactus felt. He is incredibly underpowered, does very little and shows even less powers, then just leaves like the Monster of the Week that he is. My only thought to his saving grace is that the 616 version will be a beast, but fuck was that awful. Not quite Evil-Cloud-awful, but so damn boring.

How was the chrome bimbo?

I don’t really care that the Surfer has tits now. I’m just wondering if she brought anything to the movie or if this is another shell game where they gender-swap and pray for engagement.

Nothing special. They use her as a recurring joke for Johnny Storm by saying he has the hots for her, otherwise I think she follows the typical archetype as the guilty herald.

Do I think it would've been much better if the Surfer wasn't genderswapped? Not really. Do I think they brought anything significant to the fore by making them female? Also not really. Just some dumb, lowbrow humor.

But then they write him as unstoppable and then because of plot reasons they defeat him. Not because of a plan or being clever. Mommy is mad and so has extra strong powers.

When they first go onto his ship, he seems over powered. Then he's not and they escape. The Silver Surfer, seems over powered and then she's not.

I would have used AI to summarize this, but this lazy faggot didn't put dedicated subs on his video for the AI to work. So I have to do my best to listen to go through this slog. Here's the PreserveTube just for precaution sake.

Right before even bother with anything else, he waited 2 years to bitch about CD's first "Why Modern Movies Suck" video, the one where he talks about how "They Hate Men" (mainly traditional masculinity). It's essentially 15 mins of strawmanning as usual, also the least manly looking dude taking about manliness just doesn't look like it'll make the point. Hell, forget not looking manly whatsoever, & maybe this is just me generalizing, but he literally looks like Vaush with a pedostache. Yeah, being lectured about leftism from a guy who resembles a kike nonce is not making a point, a good one that is.

It just proves the usual Critical Drinker critic problem of his critics almost always being worse in every possible way than him somehow.

Another thing, he admits himself that he didn't watch the movies he's claiming Drinker is wrong about. He also bitches about the men in ads thing, except that's been a thing since 2000s. Hell, I'm pretty sure Charlie Booker talked about how men are literally shown as hapless retards whose wives look at them like they're subhumans.

Also, a personal pet peeve, he compares Daniel Craig Bond (aka the worst Bond) to the Roger Moore Bond (a weirdly whimsical version). He also uses the Corkscrew Jump scene from The Man With The Golden Gun (the one which even the choreographer admitted once that the sound effect was an absolute mistake made after the film came out) is unintentionally funny, but doesn't negate CD's argument against it. Hell, Moore was always a calculating Bond who just also happened to have fun on the job. Meanwhile, Craig version is just a thug who just sad & brooding all the time.

The worst part is, the few critiques he has that has some basis to it, gets negated by his own actions. For example, the voice CD's persona is annoying sometimes, but that gets negated due to his own nasally soy screech of a voice.

Another example being that his editing kinda shit, which is also true cause just how many times can one use the same damn meme clips? But that gets negated easily too because he himself cuts 3 clips together to make a sentence. Also, as per the comments, he puts some retarded sound effect whenever he tries making a point, but I saw this at 2x speed just to fully make it through, so maybe I missed it.

The only good one being that Drinker's MoS review is kinda shit at points, he's somewhat right about that. And one more credit that deserves to be given here is that this is actually an actually somewhat big channed bitching about him this time, instead of the usual attention-whores.

FF: First Steps comes after a long string of bad MCU media like Captain Falcon and Ant-Man 3. So to be mediocre with not that much homework to do is an improvement. Superman is supposed to be the franchise opener for a bunch of other movies and it's a movie that makes even less sense than FF because James Gunn uses his movie for therapy purposes. Why else are there angry keyboard monkeys tweeting #Supershit? And it makes Clark melt down in his interview?

“Man Carrying Things” is a parody YouTuber who makes the most fence-sitting, milquetoast content imaginable. He “parodies” whatever’s trending just to cash in, always delivering takes designed not to offend anyone. I’m not surprised he took the coward’s route — waiting until the video was old news and until his channel was big enough to shield him from blowback.

Now, I do agree that the Drinker’s idea of masculinity is super narrow — basically just '90s action flicks and old westerns. And yeah, he was lazy with his video examples.

But pretending that the most popular franchises haven’t emasculated male characters is just gaslighting.

Pre-MCU Thor, Spider-Man, and Hulk compared to their current versions? Night and day. We went from literal gods and icons to Fat Retard, Spider-Kid, and the Incredible Soy Man.

And using ads and capeshit as examples is fair — it’s what most people are consuming. Popular vs Popular is fair.

He is nitpicking like crazy pretending "these are different genres! i-it's just a comedy!!" expiates the influence of generally famous male characters. But if there is one point he should have attacked it's the obsession with sexuality. I watched a drinker rip-off named "Reaper" review the Fallout show, which is indeed shit, but he had a meltdown over one scene where a man raised in a chaste religious environment was slightly confused at a woman offering him sex, seething that it was woke gender role reversal instead of a gag playing on celibacy vows. He also reviewed Agatha All Along, which had a scene where Agatha is naked, and he started screeching about the gay agenda when her neighbor did not gawk at Kathryn's wrinkly hag ass being indecent like some goofy porno. This particular fixation on melodramatic romance frippery is ironically very feminine.

the Incredible Soy Man.
from the chad 90s toon version and the perfectly adequate tobey mcguire to well... tom holland

i dunno whether this or being half of the world's least appealing romeo and juliet is funnier, i'll let you people decide

Yes, men do not experience emotions the same way women do, hammering on this point isn't going to convince anyone who didn't already agree with you, and you complaing that the patriarchy is limiting men only validates his point that feminism wants men to be emotionally incontinent crybabies, because you're literally saying it verbatim.

There are a million valid angles of attack to expose him as a trend chasing grifter: The ragnarok video, the deadpool video, the fact that he guntguards for popular movies that he would have torn to shreds if they weren't popular, but these morons always somehow fuck it up because in the most cruel twist of irony ever, they've already pledged their souls to "the message", so their criticisms can only ever revolve around it.

They cannot ever actually critisize him for being a grifter, they HAVE to criticise him for not being left wing. And that's why they always fail.

This take is a bit interesting because it does have someone actually dive in and rip apart a seemingly boring and derivative book made by the Critical Drinker. To be honest, I read some of the passages and I can't even tell if TCD even write it or fed a summary to an AI to make it for him or something. It basically confirms my suspicion of TCD being a typical youtube grifter since it doesn't seem as though he has much talent for writing. Funnily enough, it doesn't seem like his fans think so either. I guess it's more of an "always a bridesmaid; never a bride" sort of deal.

The issue with this video is that he spends waaaay too long taking jabs at TCD and his ilk before starting on the review. It just seems as though he can't seem to let that go. Other than that, It does seem as though people are starting to criticize TCD in areas other than a left-wing perspective.

They are both 4/10 at best, but Superman is the better movie.

it has superman..doing superman things occasionally unlike FF which has a Finale that is the Sue Storm Show while Reed stands around not stretching at all and The Thing's major moment is charging in a straight line to knock over a building that Galactus is holding onto because Sue Storm is Sue Storming all over him.
