The David Lynch Thread - Here's the thing with that champ: It's short for champion.

Are you a fucking moron?

  • Yes.

  • No.

  • I prefer the term retard.

Poor bugger smoked since was 8, and managed to live 70 more years. My own great-grandad was 7 when he started smoking, quit sometime in his 50s or 60s, then died at 74. It's amazing that Lynch managed to survive that long, well, if he never quit at any point in his life.

@TwinPeaksEnjoyer I like to think that he hated Hollywood, but had a fondness for Old Hollywood.

A couple of years ago I wrote a paper for school on him and I watched Lost Highway / Mulholland Drive / Inland Empire on a loop for about a week taking notes. Articles and books about him are useless (including what I wrote, of course); his work is experiential, the more you try to remember and explain a dream to someone, the more of the dream you lose. The logic makes total sense if you're in that state but when you say out loud "but then the old people were really little and chased her with scissors" it just sounds like nonsense to the rational mind and breaks the spell of imagination.

While TM is a total rip and anyone selling mantras should be shot, it does get people to meditate which is good, and Lynch did it every day twice a day for years and tapped into the Great Sea of Consciousness. The proof is that anyone trying to imitate him can't get it right, the elements are there but not the spirit (kinda like the Hulu Hellraiser, totally off-topic).

RIP you madman. Hollywood never deserved you.
Lynch was a classic hollywood insider. He was one of the people who pushed for Roman Polanski to be forgiven for drugging and raping a child. He would often go out of his way to appear in public or at film festivals with Polanski to boost his image. The petition to exonerate Polanski was also started by Harvey Weinsein, another friend of Lynch. So this idea of Lynch being this maverick auteur is horseshit.

I didn’t expect this topic to come up here, as my comment was meant to reflect on Lynch’s works and their artistic impact, not the Hollywood drama or his personal associations. I get that these conversations might be important to you, but this is a really bad time to talk about this.

Typical Hollywood insider, going on Alex Jones's show to talk about how 9/11 was an inside job:
