I'm waiting for news on the last album in The Dear Hunter's self titled project. So far all I can find is album art. So, if you like musicals, just need some orchestral rock you'd be proud to go deaf to, or if you really want a series of albums a boy being stalked by heartbreak and tragedy every step of his journey to becoming a man, here's what's out so far:

Act I: The Lake South, The River North

Act II: The Meaning of, and All Things Regarding Ms. Leading

Act III: Life and Death

Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise

Act V: Hymns With the Devil in Confessional
My favorite album always fluctuates between 2nd, 3rd, and 5th acts. Upon first listen Act 4 was my favorite, because it was a notable shift in atmosphere just going through all of this in one sitting. Upon relistening I found myself hitting skip on it more than any of the other Acts.

They have another interesting project called The Color Spectrum which is the lead singer's attempt to interpret the entire color spectrum through music.

Beyond that they have a Live album, some performances floating around the internet, an EP, a studio album, and this crossover they did with Between the Buried and Me where each band covered a song by the other.

I started listening to them last year and it was difficult to actually get into their music. Definitely not for easy listening or casually slipping into a playlist, their discography is like a soundtrack of a play based on a novel.

Act IV is the best. Fuck all of you. I AM the king of swords.

The Dear Hunter is pretentious wank but I also like listening to it a lot. Solid rock opera
Melpomene is pastoral as fuck
Gloria is like a hillsong (that faggy Christian rock stuff you see in youth-oriented churches) but actually really good
The March and Blood is badass
Lot of the other tracks are pretty good

Rock opera, it is called. A specific type of concept album, popular back in 1970s (?), that tells a story just like a classical opera would.

Have any of you guys listened to their new project? It's called the Indigo Child. It's supposed to be a sci-fi story, very Coheed and Cambria esque. I thought the EP was just okay, but Antimai was really good! I'm mad they won't just do Act VI, but apparently this is what they want to finish first.
