Disaster The Democratic Party is bleeding millennial support. - Milliennials finally figure out "muh Nazis" won't get them jobs.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Reuters) - Enthusiasm for the Democratic Party is waning among millennials as its candidates head into the crucial midterm congressional elections, according to the Reuters/Ipsos national opinion poll.

The online survey of more than 16,000 registered voters ages 18 to 34 shows their support for Democrats over Republicans for Congress slipped by about 9 percentage points over the past two years, to 46 percent overall. And they increasingly say the Republican Party is a better steward of the economy.

Although nearly two of three young voters polled said they do not like Republican President Donald Trump, their distaste for him does not necessarily extend to all Republicans or translate directly into votes for Democratic congressional candidates.

That presents a potential problem for Democrats who have come to count on millennials as a core constituency - and will need all the loyalty they can get to achieve a net gain of 23 seats to capture control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November.

Young voters represent an opportunity and a risk for both parties, said Donald Green, a political science professor at Columbia University in New York City.

“They’re not as wedded to one party,” Green said. “They’re easier to convince than, say, your 50- or 60-year-olds who don’t really change their minds very often.”

Terry Hood, 34, an African-American who works at a Dollar General store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and took this year’s poll, said he voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

But he will consider a Republican for Congress because he believes the party is making it easier to find jobs and he applauds the recent Republican-led tax cut.

“It sounds strange to me to say this about the Republicans, but they’re helping with even the small things,” Hood said in a phone interview. “They’re taking less taxes out of my paycheck. I notice that.”

The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed young voters during the first three months of this year and the same period in 2016.

Only 28 percent of those polled expressed overt support for Republicans in the 2018 poll - about the same percentage as two years earlier.

But that does not mean the rest will turn out to back Democrats, the survey showed. A growing share of voters between ages 18 and 34 years old said they were undecided, would support a third-party candidate or not vote at all.

The shift away from Democrats was more pronounced among white millennials - who accounted for two-thirds of all votes cast in that age group in 2016.

I like how the way this is worded implies the writer is almost surprised people have nuanced political opinions. You can not like Trump and still support Republicans, it's not a black and white issue like the mainstream media has been painting it as.

Honestly I'm of the persuasion of let fags get married, stay away from my guns, lower my taxes, reduce welfare spending, enforce immigration laws, and stay out of people's lives unless you have probable cause to nose around in it.

Sadly some of those positions are going the way of the dodo. What happened to the idea that the government is only here to deal with a small set of issues?

Democrats ruin their attractiveness by going with identity politics and gun control. Republicans with outdate religious nonsense about traditional marriage and values when a lot of them don't live it. Also...the idea that we can spy on citizens should be something both parties need to work getting rid of.

If only there were some sort of third party you could vote for?

As I once heard it succinctly put:

I support married gay couples defending their marijuana plantation with assault rifles.

Yeah it's not that Trump has no self awareness. He has that. He just has no shame.
He has "fuck you" money. Let's be honest, all of us would be like that if we had "fuck you" money. Maybe not a giant loudmouth but you wouldn't mince words like was have to now because we have to keep a job in order to pay for things. If I won the lotto and was now worth 300 million, I'd probably not beat around the bush.

Though the first thing I would do is go to the Ferrari dealership, buy their most expensive model with all their faggy wop features, and smash it with a 16 pound sledgehammer in the parking lot. When the salesman (we know it's a man since there's no kitchen when it comes to cars) asks in a horrified tone "Dear god, why?" my response will be "Because fuck you, that's why! I'm gonna go get me a real man's car, fag!"
I'm just a winning lottery ticket away from becoming a supervillain...huh....I don't know what to do with that.

If only there were some sort of third party you could vote for?

Its not even really the economy. Lets be real. There is absolutely no daylight between the Republicans and the Democrats when it comes to economic policy. The only difference between the two is on the social front. The Democrats are worried about the collective whole, and the Republicans are worried about the individual. This does not translate into any real difference when it comes to trade, war, taxation, or corporate management. Only when it comes to paying for things like healthcare, entitlements and so on.

No, what is killing the Democrats is their identity politics. Rather then viewing the United States as one unitary collective group, they view it as a collection of groups, each with varying amounts of privilege or victimization. Their insane focus on the intersectionality of these groups, and general victimization of some groups by others splits people at a tribal level. And heaven help any Individual who defies the definition of what it means to hold the group identity. Like Kanye. This is terrible for them politically, first and foremost because the vilified groups (White people, Men, Heterosexuals) happen to be identities that constitute an overwhelming MAJORITY of the population. Their efforts to try and manage this with intersectional oppression theory falls flat when it hits reality. FFS, the African American community is virulently homophobic after all, and also overwhelmingly Christian. This is something the Democrats try and ignore, studiously. And its very hypocritical and just one of many examples of how they keep trying (and failing) to juggle all these interests groups.

tl;dr, in the words of Jim Webb people are not voting against the Democrats because they disagree with the Democrats. They are voting against the Democrats because they think the Democrats don't like them.

If one is constantly being told they are evil because they are straight white males who somehow ruined the country, eventually they're going to push back when they are tired of it.

Its actually worse then that. If you call someone a Nazi enough times, even if they are not a Nazi, eventually they will decide that, you know what. Fuck you. I know what I believe is right, and good, and if that makes me a Nazi, well then I am a Nazi! And then they go and look up what being a Nazi is all about.

Still waiting for that T-Shirt that says, "I wasn't a racist until they told me I was."

This. The shock that liberals get when they find out blacks might be conservative and are actually way more homophobic than whites as a whole is really priceless. Not to mention a lot of blacks are even more anti-Islam than the evil whites the media goes on about. I have worked with a lot of black guys who were fresh out the military and were super religious and anti-muslim. They voted Trump and it's hilarious how often people get shocked at that fact. I've worked with Iraqis and people from Asia who supported Trump. They think he's good for the country.

A lot of the claims that Trump is anti-muslim and racist kinda fall flat when you see his unedited speeches. Loud and asshole? Oh sure, but he doesn't strike me as racist.

Democrats refuse to admit they lost, and have actually doubled down on policies that cost them many swing states, as well as states that weren't even suppose to be swing states.
Also everyone knows that in 2020 the DNC is going to put Hilldog back up as their candidate
Dear god I hope so...I really really do. I'd love to watch her lose again.

Yeah, but I feel that guy was more Moderate Republican than Democrat. The only thing Democrat about him was that it was his party.
The other issue is that moderate Republicanism is on life support. As long as extremely reactionary social conservatism continues to appeal to Republican primary voters, Republicans will not be coasting to victory in any area where that type of politics won't fly easily in the general election (e.g., a pretty large amount of the US, especially outside the South).

I have that shirt.

And to the guy that said Gary Johnson is his boy: I voted for that shithead and he couldn't even pull 15% in 2016 against the two most unpopular candidates in American political history. Austin Peterson was the better option.

He just has no shame.

This, right here, is why the Dems are so befuddled.

Not only did their strategy to win against him not work, every strategy they know of to make a Republican look bad doesn't work either, because they were all to a degree, based on the fact that politicians have shame, or at least can be counted on to fake it in certain situations because they think it's required....

What we have here, is what someone else brilliantly compared to flying biplanes against the Bismarck. The Democratic defenses are so optimized to put a Republican on his heels by making it look like he "doesn't care" that when faced with one that just laughs in their faces and says "There you go again, SAD!" its something they can barely even comprehend, much less find a way to successfully defeat.

And people seem to like having a genuine President Asshole for once.... he may be the apex American citizen in that regard, a loud, boorish, obnoxious, Twitter-abusing meathead, who at the end of the day, at least wants everyone to have an equal shot at employment and some personal hapiness... "Make America Great Again" was a brilliant slogan to encapsulate everything he stands for, after 15 years of white guilt being used to justify declining fortunes, he was literally asking "Whats' so WRONG about being successful?"

And it drove the Dems nearly mad with indignation.

Contrast to Hillary "you coal miners are about to be surplus to requirements" Clinton

Hey Americans are a loud and proud people. Nothing wrong with that. Better than being some turtleneck wearing, bicycle riding, beret wearing eurofag who acts all pretentious and doesn't bathe every day.

Also, wine is for women. Whiskey is for men.

Trump winning also makes me laugh because he is in the WWE hall of fame. That's even more American than apple pie at this point.

Man we rule as a country. Do other people in other countries go to bed crying because they'll never be American? I know I would...well I'd kill myself but guns aren't allowed in other countries.

EDIT!!!!: Meant to add this. It's basically our unofficial national anthem to all you weird foreigners who can't eat steaks and pee sitting down.
