The EDL

There's a similar group called "Britain First", they have over 500k likes on Facebook mostly by people sharing their images on world war 2, poppies and animal abuse.

Yeah, those guys piss me off. I know a lot of people who have shared their posts on, e.g., veterans without knowing that by liking and sharing they're supporting a group that also wants to kick out anyone who isn't British. The only thing I'll say in favour of the EDL is that at least they look as hideous as they are, and they don't hide behind a legit facade.

Incidentally, there's another group called Britain Furst created in response to Britain First. The guy who came up with it thought that Britain First was actually a joke because some of their posts are so absurd. So he invented Britain Furst as an actual parody, posting news stories about how Muslim groups are demanding halal sunglasses and that sort of thing. Trouble is, it's hard to tell the real stories from the fake, which might be why the real Britain First tried to have him shut down. It didn't work, though, because no one cares if Britain First get upset.

Oh, bloody hell, I live next door to one of these EDL people. 60 years old, wears nothing but football related clothing, shaved head, and likes to express his hatred for muslims/people from Poland/coloured people/etc at every opportunity to everyone at great length.

He's long term unemployed, and loves to blame his situation on all the muslims and immigrants, rather than the fact that a) I'd say he had the IQ of a potato, but I'm pretty damn sure I've eaten smarter spuds over the years, b) he's a racist and generally unpleasant arse who loves making sure people are aware of his views within 30 seconds of meeting him, and c) he never actually applies for any jobs.

He did have one job interview a couple of years ago, the result of which was him telling me how unfair it was that he didn't get the job as they kicked him out of the interview when he asked if they had any 'Dirty fucking muslim cunts' working at the company. Apparently the reason they didn't hire him on the spot was because 'They must be owned by fucking towelheaded scum who hate the true English.'

He also claims he should get more unemployment benefit, because he is white.

Charming chap, basically.

And the EDL itself wouldn't claim to be racist, never mind the fact that they have this charming chap who hates anyone non-English (He does hate the Poles as you mentioned and the etc. could also go to Americans, Canadians, French, and German's, right?)

Oh bloody Hell Britain First! My Grandad follows them. Even worse was when my American girlfriend followed them too, I had to tell her that they're a far-right extremist group!

Ahh, the EDL. My favorite send-up of Britain's own neofascist white power group has to be Dick Coughlan's "Nazis Without Aptitude" sketches. They're fuckin' brilliant, they are.

The swastika on Dick's forehead is actually drawn backwards. Not a lot seem to notice, but it was done on purpose, which I think is pretty clever.

So, basically Britain's version of the Raider Nation plus racism. How charming.

Seriously though, sounds like a racist political organisation, not a lolcow farm.

Yes and no. They're more like the British version of the US Tea Party: the higher-ups and their intended goals are incredibly harmful and not lulzy at all, but the rank-and-file members are dumber than a sack of hammers and (thanks to Dunning-Kruger) eager to trumpet their "superiority" over us great unwashed masses, which makes for plentiful milking.

Right, I'm not saying "These people are perfectly reasonable, leave them alone.". They sound a lot like some of the thinly-veiled-racist organisations we have here, like the Patriotic Youth League, and idiots like that do tend to make incredibly lulzworthy gaffes. I'm just saying, these are not lolcows. These are irl assholes, and unless they're highly active on the internets somewhere, they should probably be discussed in Off-Topic.

When a group with extremist views ends up on the lolcow board, it's because their actions are rooted in the internet. Tumblrinas, loveshies, redpillers, they do fuck-all but advocate for retarded asshole shit on the internet, and their irl actions are limited at best in comparison. These ideologies have formed subcultures that can be easily singled out and interacted with on the internet. That's why, for example, a Stormfront or Niggermania thread would work, but a KKK or Aryan Circle thread would be out of place. Even if there's a large degree of crossover in ideologies, and maybe even membership, the former examples are of internet asshole advocating for retarded asshole shit on the internet, and we can swoop over to their boards and cap their idiocy and post it here. The latter are irl assholes doing asshole things irl.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure these guys fail the 'Internet Tangibility' requirement on Null's handy Venn diagram.

Fuck these guys.

Recently they did a protest in the town I'm living in, so me and the Mister marched with the anti-rally. We were expecting a shitstorm, but what actually happened is that due to an administrative super-tactical cock up on their part (they sent a southern faction of the EDL and a faction from Yorkshire), the two parties of north and south fought amongst each other over the north/south divide (common in the UK), and football teams. It was all over by about four in the afternoon as they'd wasted all their energy fighting each other, so they dicked off home.

A few years ago they did a huge rally in my hometown, which the council actually handled really well. They organised a free coach day trip for all Muslim families in the community so that they would be out of town for the rally, and the rest of the community stood together with the police to show these cunts that they weren't welcome in our town. Shop windows were boarded up, mounted and riot police were called in, and there was very little overall damage.

Here's a video from the rally -

The police were fantastic that day, and I'm pretty sick of all this 'fuck the police' nonsense in the UK too. They did a fucking good job.

It's like that with a lot of these racist organisations. They claim to the media and the public that there's nothing racist about their group, and it is of course not their fault of a bunch of people who claim to be affiliated with them decide to carry out acts of race hate. I had an argument with a UKIP canvasser on my doorstep about this very issue the other week, because I'm not very polite when you wake me up when I have a hangover.
