The Elder Scrolls

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Does anyone play Elder Scrolls Online? I've been pretty impressed with it so far, only a few hours in but enjoying it. Blacksmithing seems way too grindy to level up.
Blacksmithing/Woodworking/Clothing isn't so bad to level at all, you drown in gear to deconstruct as you play, most of my alts hit 50 in those skills around level 30, the other 4 skills though are either very slow or costly to cap

I'm playing right now a Imperial run with only clothing (robes is for fags).
Having 100% spell effectivennes, 90% spell absorb & 75% shield with elements is my experiment this time.
Reflect damage is a thing i'm gonna main someday with reflect spell. Nothing more.

So deconstructing crap increases the skill? I've just been selling everything I gather for peanuts. Thanks

without robes or armor pieces, you can get 66% reflect damage (necklace of swords/axes + ring of the iron fist), 101% of you decide to use escu, i dunno how to get reflect spell 100% as well without armors, mundane ring is a good start but at this point you're better to use 2 sigil stones in your boots/pants/handcuffs to get yourself 100% resist mana or, if you are playing atronarch, replace mundane with sorcerer's ring and use 2 sigil stones for 100% absorb mana.

The Skywind team put out a new update video. The summary at the end at least says that art is basically done, around 2/3 of the quests are finished, most of the raw VA is done but basically none of it is edited, and animation and navmeshing has a hell of a long way to go. It might come out before Hammerfell does.

>These projects coming out to begin with.
You know what...Skywind seems somewhat likely to come out.

What lessons do you think bethesda SHOULD have learn from videogames people currebtly play and what lessons do you think they DID learnt and how negatively will it impact tes6?
They should have learned that people appreciate mechanical depth and good writing in their games, but somehow Emil's entire mentality is that everything needs to be brain-dead stupid in order to appeal to people. Which I feel like is the exact opposite of what's true, the game doesn't have to be as byzantine as Dwarf Fortress, just have the player interact with mechanics and make decisions in-game that actually have an impact and therefore make people give a shit.

I don't even think they understand why people love so much FNV or even why they like so much RDD2.
I saw a interview of Todd, when asked about his favourite game, he immediately jumps at Space Invaders and Tetris, which the equivalent of saying that your favourite sweet is strawberries.

Their gameplay streams from a few months ago were just a few hours of running around the (very pretty) environment with occasional dialog with NPCs. I'm still not believing they'll get it out in 2025 like they keep saying. For as plodding as Skywind's development is, at least they show proper gameplay in their trailers and streams.

Who at Bethesda thought milk-drinker was an insult?
Kirkbride told me that it's because Nords suckle pure mead from the breasts of their disgusting mothers from birth. If a Nord drinks milk his strength and connection to Talos wanes. It's all explained in an eight hundred page document he shared with me and me alone.
Which I feel like is the exact opposite of what's true,
Bethesda's entire philosophy after Todd came to power was to make RPGs for dumb people who do not like RPGs. The problem is, RPG players crave depth. You can only dumb things down so far before you stop appealing to the genre enthusiasts at all and just start making generic action games.

So Bethesda wants to just make Far Cry with swords or in space? Fine. Problem there is that their action and storytelling/presentation sucks ass.

Emil being the lead designer for anything is awful because he very clearly sees the way their games are designed as an excuse to be lazy. He knows players are going to mostly spend their time making paper airplanes out of his great American novel... So he just doesn't bother to write anything worth a dick.

That's pretty much how you play an Elder Scrolls game though. I have faith this will probably turn out okay. It will be buggy and have issues, but it will get finished and be playable (provided Bethesda doesn't actively sabotage Skyrim like they just did Fallout 4)

Skyblivion coming out next year is pretty likely since it's a better managed modding team than Beyond Skyrim.
I know Rebelzize, at least used to, regularly stream working on the thing.

I've certainly seen a lot more work come out of Skyblivion than any of the Beyond Skyrim projects in the past 5 or so years so that gives me some hope.

The only thing the Beyond Skyrim team can make are teaser videos for ModCon. Roscrea was close to being done but they fucked up something and now that's been delayed and they still haven't started working on the Imperial City. They're lucky Starfield sucked so hard and TES:VI isn't looking great either so they can still con some people into doing navmeshing for the next ten years.

What they should learn: How to make a good game without streamlining it to shit
What they have learned: They can release the most boring slop ever but so long as they market it to high hell they'll make their money back and more.
If you think TES6 won't be more of the same slop, I have nothing to anyone otherwise.
Emil's entire mentality is that everything needs to be brain-dead stupid in order to appeal to people.
More like "Emil's entire mentality is that everything needs to be brain-dead stupid in order for him to understand it." I guarantee he has never played a game with depth and gray morality. Don't show him the original Baldur's Gate games, he'll probably have a heart attack at the character creator.
If you were to design a quest for an elder scrolls game, what would you make?
I'd establish immediately that "good and evil" are relative. Make people think long and deep before they commit to an action. I'd then be instantly fired because that'll probably get rid of all the nu-"RPG" fans who are used to things being simple, black and white, pick what flavor of vanilla ice cream you want. Obviously I would make some things be objectively good and evil but I'll be damned if I make everything like that.
