After swapping in some new parts to my PC it looks much better. I’ve been playing for ~8 hours now and and it’s… Oblivion. The only draws seems to be graphics and the new leveling system, neither of which are worth $50 but are generally nice. Still, if the remaster had reignited some heavy enthusiasm for playing Oblivion again that would have been worth it for me. So far it hasn’t really done that. I am making an effort to play it differently this time, so I’ve been trying to do full Destruction magic, avoiding guilds, not stealing anything and not fast traveling anywhere. I’m exploring new parts of the map and coming across some new things (I’d never heard of Kingscrest Cavern but it has underground rivers and a dead forest in it, neat). Maybe the graphics are making the long treks through the countryside more interesting? I’m not sure how long this will last; I’m intentionally avoiding most of my favorite parts of the game for the sake of approaching it in a new way. I’m sure I’ll break.

Overall - it’s pretty obvious that the remaster is a bit unnecessary but it’s kind of nice. Better than the Silent Hill 2/3 HD remaster, not as much of a clear upgrade as Diablo 2’s. If you're reading about OR and want to explore Oblivion for the first time, the original is completely fine unless you can't deal with late 2000s 3D graphics.

I wonder what it is about pajeets that makes them program like this. It’s probably a lot of things: they only care about themselves so they don’t care if they make things worse as long as they inflate their own metrics (notoriously they do long as fuck program strings because they can advertise doing more lines of code), and this sort of demanding dependency I’ve noticed from dealing with them. It isn’t just that they ask for a lot from you they make no effort to meet you halfway even if it’s easier for everyone.

It was definitely a Bethesda thing. It wasn't until Fallout 3 that they started making the effort when it came to facial animations/models. There is a reason that people who are dysgenic are described as "being made in Oblivion". The character models were a running joke at the time of it's release. It was the same for Morrowind too.

You could argue that compromises were made to cut down on overheads, given the amount of characters needed, the amount of characters on screen in populated areas and the need for the EXTREME CLOSE-UP when engaging in dialogue. The chances are it was just Bethesda's ineptitude. Character models have never been their strong point.

Imagine being Patrick Stewart in 2006 and seeing yourself represented as a Down's syndrome version of Dr Zaius.

I also like that it took multiple people reuploading the mod for them to yield. Where were these people during the spider-man tranny flag incident?
