Revenge of the Sith was recently re-screened in theaters to thunderous applause and financial success. In a less retarded world the message taken away from this is "people liked the old stuff and the new stuff is shit". Maybe they'll get that message in the long term, but the short term lesson will be "re-release all your old stuff because people liked it better".
Its cargo cult culture though. The people reproducing these things don't understand WHY they were successful or HOW they worked to be successful. They only understand that they ARE. There will be hard diminishing returns for this. Hell, people are still salty about how the Oblivion remaster lopped the tits off the first Empress' statue in the Imperial City.
That however is just superficial. Along with replacing Male/Female with Body Type 1/Body Type 2. The real issue is people with creative impulses are being churned through the required credentialing institutions as destroyers and not creators. They do not KNOW how to create. They only KNOW how to follow programming. And when the program is a virus intended to destroy, that is the only thing they can do.
I've taken it upon myself the unenviable duty of reading the latest and greatest zoomer "Fantasy" novels. Stuff like "Salvos", "Ship Core", "The SS Ranked Hero is a Villainous", "Sybil" and so on. I find this stuff fascinating in the same way I watch videos of car crashes and police bodycams. There is a spark of creativity under all of it. But it is absolutely smothered by the incessant need to deconstruct, force in unneeded lesbian or homosexual plot lines, or just veer full on into a kindergartners understanding of morality. Where the hero just does heinous shit, but its not heinous because the author said so.
A Cargo cult. They pantomime the themes of great stories, with all the finesse of an illiterate Polynesian building a radar station out of palm leaves. They don't understand how any of it actually works, what any of the concepts, plot lines and story beats mean, or why they are profound.
And so when a 20 year old RPG is dropped on them in the dead of the night, its like the sky gods have given them the sacred SPAM, which had been jealously guarded by Chief for many years.
