I agree this feels much bigger and more ominous than just troons. Troons are loud and obnoxious and have way more power than they should, but the more I think about it the more it seems like the troons started this attack, but didn't finish it. If other politically incorrect sites start to fall one by one then I KNOW some shit is hitting the fan. The other thing I find odd is that all the normal, legal channels have been completely bypassed in this situation, even though they’re something that has been utilized in the past. Null has received subpoenas from the US government over "threats" made on the forum more than once in the past, and has willingly cooperated every time.

Not this time, though. Somehow Cloudflare had to do a 180 on their logically sound, long-term-business-minded statement after three days because and play vigilante because they didn't think the authorities would get there in time? To a "threat" that was posted on another website, days prior to them taking action?

I get the weird feeling that somebody a few degrees of separation from the initial players in this was either concerned about people looking too hard at KF after all the troon vs, Cloudflare screeching, or looked into things themselves over it and found something that made them go "oh shit".

Several people have said similar in the thread. Well, whether related to this specific troon vs kiwi battle or not, something big is going on right now. I feel like I've been slow to catch on and now it's all happening at once. I'm not making any claims here, just thoughts. I'd start with America's own brand new Ministry of Information. They couldn't sell actually creating such a thing, so they multi-tasked an existing TLA. The one that has lately taken such an interest in monitoring social media for "misinformation". This misinformation panic has been building for some time. Gradually it becomes accepted the net speech must be limited "to protect democracy" from people voting for the wrong candidate. Keywords: civil war, administration disowning republicans. People tell me things were crazier when the Weather Underground was running around. I'm sure they were in terms of explosions, but not in terms of the constitutional republic itself coming apart at the seams, over what I call "The Runaway Overton Window". I'm old, and I have never seen or felt anything anywhere close to what is happening right now in the U.S.

And God only knows what the hell the However-Many-Eyes are up to.

I am (somewhat currently, more formerly) connected to the mechanisms of Big Internet. What continually amazes me is how people over the past 20 years have gone from talking about 'The Cathedral" as first put forward by ESR, into control-heads.

I'd never thought a few years back I'd be sad at something like Kiwifarms disappearing, but here we are. Thank you for everything Null, for allowing us to laugh at troons and call them men unhindered when it was impossible to do so anywhere else. Because Null has complied with legal requests with the proper jurisdiction before.

The Tarrant situation was New Zealand vastly overstepping their authority and not even trying for a proper subpoena. Any situation where you have the ability for user to make public content, it can be used for threats or showcasing illegal activity. Mass shootings, assaults, and sexual abuse have all been streamed live of Facebook, but since they are a huge corporation, no one calls for them to be deplatformed when moderation take more than 10 minutes.
