Disaster The FDA has officially declared a shortage of Adderall

The FDA has confirmed the nation is experiencing a shortage of Adderall after many pharmacies around the country have been unable to fill prescriptions and keep up with demand.

The drug, which is also known as mixed amphetamine salts, is used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy.

"We will continue to monitor supply and assist manufacturers with anything needed to resolve the shortage and will update our website with new supply information as it becomes available," the FDA said.

Expected recovery times for manufacturers' supplies of the prescription vary. Teva Pharmaceuticals, which sells the most Adderall in the U.S., has a 10 mg dosage of Adderall that is expected to rebound in October. But many of its generic brand offerings aren't expected to recover until March 2023.

Manufacturer SpecGX's higher doses won't recoup until January 2023, while Rhodes Pharmaceuticals has a shortage of an active ingredient.

Bloomberg health reporter Ike Swetlitz told NPR last month the shortages began due to a labor shortage at Teva, causing production delays that began showing up at other companies. Additionally, an increase in ADHD diagnoses has been driving up demand for Adderall in recent years.

"So some people are just going without," he said. "You know, they're not doing as well at their jobs. They're not really able to keep up as much in professional and personal relationships. Some people I've talked to are trying to compensate with other sort of stimulants, drinking a lot of coffee, energy drinks – people I've talked to who have thought about going to the black market."

All through 2020 people got stimulant prescriptions as a mother's little helper to get them through depression caused by lockdown, all aided by memes telling people it was "neurodivergent" and a symptom of ADHD if you feel distractable and unable to entirely adjust to the new normal.

When Ritalin was originally made, this was exactly what it was for. Then they stopped this kind of usage when the ADHD cash cow became a big hit in the 80s. Now it's recycled for a new generation with "adult ADHD" that has the exact same symptoms as these ads from the 50s.

So we have a bunch of unmedicated, easily distracted speds with ample amounts of energy who are gonna be running around right as things become even more hectic and stressful toward the end of the year, sounds like a recipe for success.
I would characterize amphetamine withdrawal as like a caffeine withdrawal without the migraines. It's not a good time, you're tired, and you're irritable, but it's not the end of the world. Good news for the lil tweakers is there is no acute physical risk. Anyways, if there's none to be had there's none to be had. Your typical ADHD kid is not going to have access to meth and only a dipshit would go for that over minor withdrawals. The real people to feel sorry for are the people who didn't have a hand in getting them hooked that will have to put up with the annoying little shits. Advice to college students, plan ahead around finals/midterms.
Caffeine will help keep you functionally awake. Don't expect better, just not quite so bad. You quickly hit diminishing returns. Power through the first couple bites of a decent meal and you should notice your appetite is back. Get some decent hydration. If your sinuses get clogged up, a normal dose of actual Pseudoephedrine will clear that up and help you feel like less of a zombie. The sudafed and amphetamine streams crossing will make the medfags mildly (!), so don't do that. IIRC the concern is both raise your blood pressure.

OK seriously. What's it like?
It calms you down. It really isnt like meth at all, at least the genuine pharmaceutical, Ive never 'abused it', theres no reason to take more than one. It almost zombifies you but its more like a very quiet, meditative state and shit you would normally put off you go, 'no I should just do it now, get it over with'--it motivates you that way. It also keeps your mind from wandering and any random intrusive thoughts, you can sort of organize your mind better and it keeps you from doing stupid, impulsive shit that you know would end badly for you because youve made bad decisions before. It also mutes some of your emotions because retards can be pretty sensitive, thats how you get tard tantrums and shit, or really just like, if youve ever heard of the BPD woman who's really emotionally unstable, but its usually prescribed alongside other medicine for that though. Oh it helps with memory too, with ADD your brain is just like a filing cabinet with shit shoved in it, youre bad with names, dates, shit like that.

Its annoying when people call it meth tho because its really not, and its most like party bitches who go out then take the pill to stay up studying and half the time its some street pill with research chemical analogue stimulants that are different from the specific blend Adderall™ uses, poured into a gel cap, and then they go "oh I got high off it (after I guess 5 pills, redosing every 6 hours), now Im addicted!" No bitch. I gave my friend a vyvanse in college and he was like, "All I did was stay up all night and do homework". For retards it can help you sleep because it quiets the noise of your internal monologue and you going 'dude you gotta be up in 6 hours can you calm down, what about this or that'.

Its kind of fuckin stupid that its a scheduled drug. But maybe also all of my symptoms are 'withdrawals' even though I havent taken it in a while. The vodka thing, yeah Burnetts does a similar thing with quieting that noise but then youre like, having a good time instead of just being able to be calm.

For normal people it is less effective meth. it is a stimulant that keeps you up and going and a lot of people use it to work longer and abuse it. for adhd people it actually allows you not to be a fucking wreck all the time and focus. also tends to shorten your lifespan. not having it is like not being able to function for some. though there can be alternatives.

When this shit is handed to kids as some kind of cure all miracle drug, I feel it cannot be stressed enough how dangerous this drug is in cases of overuse. It absolutely needs to be scheduled, an Adderall OD is indistinguishable from meth psychosis.
Psychiatrists are derelict in their duty when it comes to actually informing parents and patients of the potential dangers of this drug, especially when the prescription process is to zombify the kid until they start having a personality again, and then it's time to bump up the dosage. It's a prime recipe for abuse later in life. It should be outright illegal to prescribe to children, especially if the reason is "the kid can't sit still for three hours straight in Holocaust class".

Maybe it wasn't such of a good idea to get kids addicted to amphetamines because they couldn't sit still while the teacher droned on about the civil rights movement? Getting kids hopped up on speed in order to get them to focus was one of the biggest mistakes the west has ever made.
Worked as a pharmacy tech in the mid 00's

Never once saw a kid put on Adderall get off of it, and they always migrated to the heaviest allowable dosage.

Naturally, their parents would commiserate to me about how they wish they could get little Timmy off his meds, but "nothing's working". As Timmy was tearing apart a Benadryl display behind her and she was doing absolutely nothing to stop him.

Strangely, I never met any of their Dads, it was always the kid of a strong, independent, single Mom or trailer park reject that had these kids who just wouldn't listen to authority, for some reason.

Typically stimulant use should be combined with the development of good routines and other coping methods so that even if you run out of medication you can still function. If you're relying solely on the pill you are never going to be able to effectively manage your symptoms.

Adderall kinda fucking sucks though, way too quickly absorbed and far too much potential for abuse. Vyvanse and Concerta are better imo.
