So the new armor that Scarlet uses is apparently a prototype (Ruby?) weapon.

I guess the in universe explanation is that the weapons are like Evas where they're part alien and part machine merged together by a single company.

I guess they decided the mechanistic bodies of the weapons "didn't make sense" so now Shinra makes them?

I wanna get FF12, but Unsure how it is. Anyone play 12?
FF 12 is the best single player MMO out there. Solves the problem of having to deal with other people.

It isn't a Final Fantasy game though. But it is good.

Could just be an 'homage'. Could just be her looking at an ancient painting or whatever and saying "that looks dope. Let's go with that."

Just recently got into this series, particularly FF7. Now I haven't been into gay anime shit for a long time but I suppose that's the draw of big bad daddy Sephiroth and his quest to have Cloud's ass at all costs.

Best single player MMO these days is unironically FF11. You can solo all of the story content with trusts and it has my favorite implementation of the job system.
Is FF 11 still running!? I thought they shut it down. Will my old discs still work??

C-can we play together??

No that's just the fujoshits trying to write over an existing story with gay male fanfiction.

I'm (mostly) kidding. I actually think Sephiroth's sad family dynamics are more interesting to dwell on, especially since we barely know anything about it beyond what we know in CC and DoC. The level of mystery adds layers of tragic gray in what had previously been a stock anime villain.

I still need to play the Remake but from what I understand, shit's different this time. Idk I'm still a noob.

Square shut down the PS2 servers in 2016 (pretty impressed they made it that long), but the PC servers are still going strong.

I never played back in it's heyday but I played through the base games story in 2019 and had a lot of fun. Got summoner to 75 plus several other jobs to around 50ish.

There are a few different private servers up as well, but I don't have any experience with them.

Private servers? Now we're talking. I used to play a MNK/NIN back in the day. It was a really great time. Will definitely be playing this again.

Thanks for the info.

They stopped making new expansions for it years ago, but it was never shut down. "Rhapsodies of Vana'diel" was supposed to be the last storyline and a fitting close to the game. But after a long trickle of content, they finally started slowly releasing a new major storyline "The Voracious Resurgence" a few months ago. Anyway as far as I know, even the most ancient PC install CD-ROMs should still work, but you can (finally!) download a more recent version of the installer directly from their website.

Actually, PS2, Xbox, and PC players all play on the same servers. As the population has dwindled, so has the number of active servers, but there are still several to choose from. It was PS2 support that was ended several years ago, as it was holding the game back and there were issues with using hardware that Sony no longer supports. But you can play a character created on the PS2 on the PC no problem. Likewise EU support ended years before that, but that just means that certain billing options no longer exist and the client no longer can be run in French or German modes.

So here's something I've wondered from time to time: Why are Square games so autistic about renaming characters? It's weirdly inconsistent throughout all of Final Fantasy, and spills out into some of their other games. Like, off the top of my head:

  • Final Fantasy IV: Namingway, a character designed & dedicated to renaming your characters can be found in (I think) every single town in the game, even one right near the end
  • Final Fantasy VI: Rename cards are one of the rarest items in the game, and are one-use things to let you rename your character. You can get enough to rename everyone in your party at least once, though you have to bet some rare, very useful items in the coliseum in the latter half of the game to obtain them.
  • Final Fantasy IX: Namingway cards are elusive and easy to miss, and you can bring it to someone in a town before disc 4 and rename your party. Fortunately, they're not a one-time-use thing, but it's already a very rare card you can lose in Tetra Master, and the town with the renamer guy is completely optional. Every bit of this is super easy to miss
  • Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross: A Nu can be found in very obscure locations that can rename your party, but only near the end of the game.

And speaking of which, Final Fantasy X: The only character you can name is Tidus, and his name is never actually spoken out loud by anyone else because of this. No other party members can have their names changed, and they refer to one another by name. It's just really weird and makes you wonder why they even let you rename him in the first place.

Why on Earth is just renaming your party treated like this big elusive prize, and isn't even available until near the end, when you've already seen most of the story with the names you didn't want? Why isn't there just a rename feature in the options menu?

The Tidus thing is funny because if someone had just said his name would Auron be like, "wait, isn't your name Shuyin?"
