The Final Fantasy Thread

Do children born between 2008-2013 care about a game from 2000, released on hardware from 1994?

It seems like another thing for their parents who grew up with FF9 to foist upon their kids, when their kids should be outside doing kid things like competing to see who can scream the N word the loudest
They're doing this to try and capture the GOT audience and probably the she-ra shipping retards as well.

You can tie 9 into the Ivalice universe bullshit and now you have a multigame epic with a fuckload of fuck of pages of lore. I'm unsure if this is going to push any boundaries as far as animation tech goes, but if they try to 1:1 accurately depicting amano's art as workable animation, it might be worth it for that alone. But the people heading the project don't seem to have artsy tech bullshit that spergs care about in their history. It also looks like it might be too underbudget to have painterly animation effects.

Much as I love the idea of a IX animated series, I doubt whatever comes of this will live up to my imagination or even come close to being as high quality as the game itself.

But hey, if it brings more people to playing and potentially loving the game I'm all for it. Worst case scenario we all get something new to absolutely rip apart.

Beh, I have low hopes for this. FF9 is already has an unfinished story, and the game is about thousands of people dying to like half a dozen cataclysms. No fucking way these scenes won't get watered down for babies.
Let's not forget that whoever is making this will, without fail, fuck with the characters to make them more inclusive and give them more unwanted backstory.

We'll never get the "ooh soft" in a 2020's adaptions for babies.

Then again, we'll also never get the scene after the temple of ancients where Cloud beats the shit out of Aerith for FF7R either

It's sounding like they're going to turn Vivi into Baby Yoda, Garnett/Dagger is the STRONK GIRLS character, Zidane is for Fanfiction Girls to obsess over, Steiner is going to be the comic relief. If they get someone like Patrick Warburton to voice Steiner it could work well.

It's not sounding like a large departure from what's already there. Armarant, Quina, Freya, and Eiko were never the main draw.

Not first time FF getting a cartoon, 5 had a shitty anime back in the 90's. It's some small French studio, could you imagine if it's Disney or Warner Bos and their shitty CalArts?
There was a full on Final Fantasy animated series in the early 2000's. Had very little to do with the games.

I'd love to see them tie 9 into Ivalice considering the only possible world 9's connected to is 1. And that's just straight up fan theory. That said, Ivalice might make for a good show.

I hate baby Yoda. The problem is though, while Steiner was comic relief, he also had many serious moments where he questioned his loyalty and what was best for the princess, the queen, and the country. As well as questioning what he really wanted*. I know FF9 isn't all that deep, but I don't trust anything being made in the current decade to get even minor subtly right.

Garnet is really nothing like the STRONK WIMMINZ stereotype that people think of. Throughout the game she's shown to be a bit headstrong at times, but mostly unsure of herself and her abilities. It took all the way to IIRC, the near end of disc 3 for her to finally figure out what she's going to do with herself. Oh, and let's not forget she's trying to get away from her mother. Something I guarantee won't go over will with the danger-hair crowd because, feminism.

As for the other characters, you're not really wrong, but that means a higher likelihood of them giving them some stupid backstory. Seriously, watch them try and say Amarant's gay. You know they're going to do it. Just like they'll put in a ten minute conversation of why Quina's pronouns are always changing and why they need to respect it.

*it was Beatrix.

Does Chrono Trigger mean nothing to these people? You already have OVA, build out the rest from there!!
Shhhhh! Don't give them any ideas, you really think a story involving multiple timelines (if not multiple alternate realities) wouldn't be completely fucked from the get-go?

Knowing Clown World logic, I can't help but wonder if they'll make Kuja's outfit even more revealing than in the actual game.

I want to be cautiously optimistic about this, I mean the original game was developed mostly in Hawaii. So, by that logic, having the game be adapted into a series by a Western company isn't a bad idea.

Thing is though, so much has changed since then and modern day politics have seeped quite a bit into every facet of entertainment.

I don't know, until I actually see what the whole thing looks like, I'm gonna keep my expectations low.

I could totally see Amarant's obsession with Zidane being seen as gay by a lot of people.

But yeah, Garnet was handled very well all things considered. She starts out pretty unsure of herself at points due to not ever being outside her castle and being torn between her love for her mother and what she feels is the right thing to do. But she does eventually grow up and become that much stronger a person.

Hell, pretty much all the major characters are shown at both their highest and lowest points, regardless of gender. People tend to forget that part of what makes a character compelling is seeing all their flaws and watching them overcome them. Even Beatrix, someone who many would consider a "STRONK WOMEN" goes through the same kind of arc as Steiner and beats herself up over failing to do something about Brahne sooner and not being able to stop Alexandria from being wrecked. It took Steiner to convince her not to leave at the end.

Creator of My Hero Academia made these in celebration of the upcoming series.

“FF9 is the most important game in my life, so I'm really excited about the news that it'll become an anime.

I want to see Freya's strange dance in the anime. I'm so happy."

Not a big fan of MHA, but he has good taste.

Why isn’t he making the show? :(

I hope Fantasian is on topic enough for you guys. I recently picked up Fantasian on a whim after stumbling on an article about it and then realizing I still have Apple Arcade trial remaining. Oh boy.

It looks lovely. It sounds lovely. The plot is simple but entertaining enough to convey me from one location to another, from challenge to challenge. It has a sense of humor. The gameplay is simple and easy to understand, but just strategic enough to let you consider your options. Boss fights felt really good and mostly tuned well, sometimes I had to load a checkpoint and grind a couple Dimengeons of random encounters to get just the edge enough to progress.

The currently released content, part 1, is a rather linear rollercoaster through most of the game’s locations. You get to briefly see many of the characters and meet the party members. Honestly, it made such an impression to me I might just keep paying Apple for the Arcade for the second part to arrive. Part 2 is where the game should really open up in terms of options and customisation, as it promises a quest based and less linear plot with access to the airship to explore even more locations.

That last bit is just what Square does...
Their characters went from people who did things, to people who did things with a backstory, to having important backstories that inform the situation they're in, to just walking backstory dumps.

They'll change Cid's relationship with Shera. Although that's a good thing, even playing the original as a kid that felt uncomfortable. I get what they were going for with him being bitter towards her, but it came of as abusive.
