The Final Fantasy Thread

I hated the butterfly one (never finished it) and the chocobo dodging one (did it once, never want to again). I don't know why everyone has a hard time with the lightning dodging though, I did it on my second try. You just need to concentrate. Incidentally, the Thunder Plains lightning dodging always seemed to me like one of those D&D 3.5 edition magic location things, where you did some location-specific accomplishment in order to gain a location-specific bonus feat (in this case, Lightning Reflexes).
i have played an autistic amount of ffx, and as a result i have done these godforsaken sidequests several times in order to get weapons and shit. the butterfly one was annoying, but doable. i had a hard time dodging lightning in the thunder plains but there is a method where standing in a specific place gives you guaranteed lightning strikes so you can time your dodges. and THE FUCKING CHOCOBO BULLSHIT. that was the bane of my existence. the fucking janky controls, the absolute HORSESHIT where you can get caught up on parts of the environment, and THE BIRDS THAT WILL COME OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE AND STUNLOCK YOU JUST LONG ENOUGH TO GET HIT BY THE NEXT FUCKING BIRD, COSTING PRECIOUS SECONDS.

and as bad as ffx's sidequests may be, it could always be x-2...

Auron is the best FFX party member. I dont really see the debate.

My favorite FF13 party member might surprise some people though. I really love Snow.

Why? Because he is a grown up, dumbass, Jock bro version of Sora. He's a compete idiot who has no idea what the fuck he's doing, gets into hopeless situations he cant fix, win or pull himself out of and repeatedly gets his ass handed to him.

He really really wants to do right and save the day, but the only thing he knows how to do is punch shit. And on some level he knows it. He knows he's a fuck up. (Especially in the sequels)
And yet.. he has this constant, can do, optimistic attitude that I really enjoyed. He's so charming he was able to start up a makeshift rebellion against Pulse and convince a bunch of teenagers he can win. This is a dude who knows he cannot beat the final boss in hand to hand combat alone, but tries to do it anyway. Every time. Because "goddamit, im the hero!"

His stupid dreams and idiotic plans are constantly smashed and thwarted, and yet he keeps getting back up. I like that.

Lightnings cool, but she doesn't actually grow into her own until 13-3, until then she's a female brooding cloud.

The Commspheres are the worst part.

Quests offering dresspheres, grids and accessories are (often) fun. It doesn't take too much grinding to reach the point where it is fun. It's a step forward from 10 which had no context for its missables.

Cid appears in all of the compilation games, but he's almost always a supporting background character at most.
And that’s the problem with Cid, he’s always a background character. Vincent got his own game and Yuffie got her own DLC, and Tifa, Barret, and Aerith are the most popular side characters.

I'll be honest, I first tried the chocobo race. Seeing everyone else have so much trouble with it really shines that I somehow had a four leaf clover shoved up my ass and accidentally bullshit my way through.

I would agree, if the game ever punished him for it, or he showed any signs of knowing he's a fucking retard. But no, he constantly fucks around, finds out, and then continues to fuck around, because the only people paying the price are the corpses all around him.
Ya know, like Ken Amada's mom.

Oh wait, that was the first time that plotline was done. Edit: Seriously, I can't believe SE didn't get fucking sued.

I really can’t argue with that. Most of the FFXIII party is fine, with an exception of Hope and Vanille. I liked Snow since the beginning but always found Vanille annoying and Hope to be a little shit.

Snow does realize he is a fuck up when Hope rages at him and Snow gets himself nearly killed to make up for Hope losing his mom but he, like most of the FF13 party, doesn't do much besides listen to exposition and walk to the next boss fight after his big major scene where he breaks down. Remember when Sazh nearly shot himself? Then he just becomes goofy comedy black guy again when he returns for the rest of the game? This is a general problem for about half the cast, they just stand around and listen to people talk with an occasional pointless comment that anyone could say. They get their big scenes in one maybe two chapters, then do fuck all for the rest of the game. I wanted to like Snow, and part of me still does, but he really goes fuck all nowhere after his scene with Hope. I like seeing optimistic characters get their shit kicked in, but get over it and try to do better without just becoming an edge boy.

Character wise he's good but gameplay wise it depends on the version. OG he is good but in the International/Remake version he's average at least in the post game, which is the biggest difference between the versions. But that's how some of the characters are in the OG version vs INT/Remake versions. Granted Kimahri sucks in both versions at all points of the game.

well that or someone got bored and level up Knights multiple times.....
I remember that game had like an average completion of 80 hours, which was a lot back then. I wonder how long it would take to level Knights so many times it split enough for the whole party.

well probably enough to make Vincent's Death Penalty OP. Just run a Cloud/Cid/Vincent party since Cloud and Cid have the Triple AP weapons and Vincent to pump up his damage on his Ult weapon by getting kills.

I believe Yuffie, Cloud, Cid is the meta prty because people don’t want to level Vincent’s Weapon.

But if you’re gonna give everyone Knights you got the time.

Can't you slap Tifa's second-best weapon on her and just God Hand everything thanks to that ridiculous 250% accuracy bonus?

Christ, I wonder how they're going to handle that shit in the Remake. She already gets absurd Luck and +Crit on that one weapon. Slap on that Luck Up you get from Darts and she gets crits left and right.

I think you mean deathblow. Still not top tier but my latest final party used Tifa (and Red) and had no issues with anything so top tieringest isn’t really necessary.

In Remake the two girls are waaaay better than Barrett or Cloud so Tifa might get nerfed (since Aerith dies a nerf would be unnecessary).

And by nerfed I mean “not buffed as much relative to everyone else + the encounters”.
