i have played an autistic amount of ffx, and as a result i have done these godforsaken sidequests several times in order to get weapons and shit. the butterfly one was annoying, but doable. i had a hard time dodging lightning in the thunder plains but there is a method where standing in a specific place gives you guaranteed lightning strikes so you can time your dodges. and THE FUCKING CHOCOBO BULLSHIT. that was the bane of my existence. the fucking janky controls, the absolute HORSESHIT where you can get caught up on parts of the environment, and THE BIRDS THAT WILL COME OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE AND STUNLOCK YOU JUST LONG ENOUGH TO GET HIT BY THE NEXT FUCKING BIRD, COSTING PRECIOUS SECONDS.I hated the butterfly one (never finished it) and the chocobo dodging one (did it once, never want to again). I don't know why everyone has a hard time with the lightning dodging though, I did it on my second try. You just need to concentrate. Incidentally, the Thunder Plains lightning dodging always seemed to me like one of those D&D 3.5 edition magic location things, where you did some location-specific accomplishment in order to gain a location-specific bonus feat (in this case, Lightning Reflexes).
and as bad as ffx's sidequests may be, it could always be x-2...
