The Final Fantasy Thread

I completed Crisis Core Reunion. I won't get into story stuff, but I've never really been a fan aside from Zack and Cissnei. I will say that some of the new voice acting is terrible, Genesis is gay, and they fucked up Cissnei's face.

As far as the gameplay goes, the combat is alright, especially since they suped it up from its PSP controls. I didn't remember how much grinding there was in doing all the missions and, holy shit, by the end of it, I had to come up with new versions of "Activating Combat Mode" and "Conflict Resolved" to keep from going insane. Here are some examples:

Jactitating wombat road
'Vacuating tomcat load
Captivating Comcast node
Vaccinating one fat toad
Salivating fat-ass ho

Convict absolved
Conscript dissolved
Picnic devolved
Con-stricts my balls
Oddish evolved

I think I'm done with Squeenix remakes after this. Unless it's FFT:WotL with no alterations whatsoever.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and have a Happy New Year!

I forgot about Cissnei and how she had excellent chemistry with Zack. Unlike the prequel Aeris who is high on xanax or codeine.
I've always found people's interest in that romance, that would feel forced if it technically wasn't set up in the original, felt insincere. I don't see how anyone can like it more than Zack and Cissnei.
Like all things I find mystifying the answer must be shipping related.

Remake of crisis core is pretty good so far. Having played the original all the way though with an emulator I am impressed how they made it feel fresh again with all the little changes to gameplay and the extra dialogue that used to be text only. Im actually not sure how much of it is original, they did such a good job making it feel expanded.

That being said I kinda hate how the combat is structured. All the little changes and new moves are welcome but the base gameplay is still very simple. I could have used some more DMC complexity. That being said thank god they added a skip button for the DMW. I had fast forward on the emulator and I could still feel the pain from everybody who had to sit through those .

Voice acting is actually pretty solid. My biggest complaint is sephiroth. New guy's not terrible, but he paints sephiroth as just an ordinary goth dude as opposed to the positively MAGNETIC performance of George Newbern (aka justice league Superman).

Im not hating zack's voice as much as I thought I would. It gives him a much different feel but I get what they were going for. Emphasizing his awkwardness and inexperience paired up with a friendly attitude. I like it.

Genesis is gay,
I have a fondness for him. They did a poor job explaining why he went crazy but I like how he's basically an insane shakesphere fan who thinks murder is the solution to all problems. Mostly I like the idea that sephiroth had a best friend that was even more screwed up then he was. Id like to see more of him with better writing.

With all the dialogue being voiced now, it actually feels a lot less forced. Ive always liked em because they always seemed like awkward, sincere birds of a feather. Personally ive never been comfortable with how aggressive some of the cloud aeris shippers are. Especially with the implications of Zack coming back in rebirth.

Well I’m not into discussing the likability of shippers themselves but more the influence they have on the fanbase.

And I think the fanbase really misunderstands the reasons for why Nojima gave his (possible) waifu two jacked chads who want her.

I still hear about how Cloud only likes Aeris because he’s Zack while it also being imperative she die because it’s an iconic tragedy for Cloud (who I guess doesn’t think he’s Zack in that moment) so I don’t think these Claeris have a lot of pull.

But I’m also sympathetic to old school fans who just don’t want new gay shit added. And while Zack was briefly in FF7 the new stuff they’re doing is “not that”.

Despite being mobile only it was smart of square to make Ever Crisis as a faithful remake in response to that

Judging by all the 10 seconds of gameplay we've seen, it looks like it's going to be a shitty semi-idle game, because SE is terrified of money.
I'm still going to play it, because I'm a dumb bitch and actually want to see the story of BC for myself, but I'm not holding my breath for the game to be good.

Late side note: Fuck SE for killing First Soldier. Shit was straight up the best battle royale on the market by a landslide, and it gets killed because SE is too retarded to put it on a console or PC, and players are too retarded to connect a controller to their phone.

Wow. That was incredibly dumb of Square. It’s moments like these that make me so tired of being attacked for saying Square doesn’t make good decisions (not here obviously).

tbh i'm playing Pixel Perfect FFIII or whatever they're calling it and thus far i'm not all that impressed. The remixed music isn't really anything to write home about, the font is just downright terrible, and the KB+M controls are downright nonsensical(i.e. Run is the Backspace button). I don't where how they get off charging twice the price compared to the 3d version, which is a far more competent product.

“Be quiet you Nostalgic Faggot, this is Square Enix and we own you.”

That’s more or less the effect here. Also Gamers just seem more willing to part with their money than ever before.

I bitched about this in the SE thread, but does anyone know, other than the aformentioned fear of money, why Dragon Quest gets all the fun, interesting spin offs (quality non-withstanding) like Warriors, Treasure Hunters, or Builders, while FF gets First Soldier and Lost in Paradise?

Because every time Square tried a fun spin off of an FF game, it fucking tanked. So they've decided to incorrectly follow the theme of "FF7 was more mature than our other games and it sold like crazy, so surely if we make more mature FF games they will sell like crazy too".

It's a catch 22; if they branch off to something fun, nobody plays it because it's too silly, and if they branch off to something serious, nobody likes it because it's too up it's own ass. Square literally can't win.

As much sense as that makes, what's widely called their best game, FF9, was a fucking wackadoo saturday morning cartoon. Here's hoping the rumored remake is true, so that they can see some silly is is fine.

I picked FF5 back up. I think I'm drawing close to the end, so I might as well finish it up. The pyramid was a hassle, mainly because this enemy fuckin' sucks:
1672877318539.png

  • Takes forever to run from
  • Effectively impossible to retreat if only Cara's still alive
  • Takes hardly any damage from melee attacks
  • Spawns constantly
  • Goes down with two Fire3s, but the high respawn rate means they'll burn through your MP fast.
  • This enemy spawns other random, strong enemies, and just pops out a new one when you kill it, so you have to focus on killing her first
The pyramid is also full of treasures, mostly behind hidden pathways that mean you'll be walking out of your way a lot, so you'll encounter lots of those. I did get through it, so hopefully the rest of the game is more fun.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen another dungeon in any RPG where there was a boss right at the beginning, but none at the end.

Everyone in my group is around level 40 right now. Any tips or advice? How far am I from the ending? I'm saved right after the pyramid.

I think you can just straight up go to the final dungeon after a few bits. The merged world is a lot like World of Ruin where it gives you the final dungeon right away, but also a bunch of side content that boost your party that you're encouraged to do.

Demon summoning bitch is a joke if you silence her or turn her into a toad. Bard's Requiem is also handy with the undead that frequents there. You still got some ways to go but the last obligatory dungeon you have left is the Fork Tower. The Reflect Rings in magic tower cheeses it. There are stuff like the Mime job and some summons to get too. L40 is enough to beat the last boss but you have to get your jobs maxed out before tackling Omega and Shinryu.

I just finished the FF7 remake after leaving it unfinished for nearly a year when I bought it on chapter 15 or 16. I was very bored of it and didn't feel the urge to complete it anytime soon.

I'm pretty hard on remakes and changes they make. But I'm fine with altering things as long as it doesn't harm what was established in the original. There's quite a bit of changes in this one that I liked, but many I disliked. But overall going into the end of the game, even with the monumental amount of tedious and boring filler, I was okay for what it was. And then I got to the final act set of boss fights.

What a complete and total piece of shit. I've heard how bad the ending is, but articles and posts didn't do it justice. I don't own a Niggerstation 5 since there isn't a fucking thing worth buying it for, so I'm going to wait on reviews for the sequel before I do anything with that one. I don't plan on playing this one ever again.

Remake gives me a headache. I think the devs should be taken off the project if they didn't realize what made Midgar work in the OG. It was snappy. One setpiece to another, you never got bored. Here's the setting, combat, characters, villains. And then when Midgar's over you get to goof off and do your own thing for a while.

Remake is so protracted it's insulting. The gameplay is so fun, until it isn't. The characters are great, until they aren't. The setting is charming, until you're forced through chapters that were, at most, 3 screens in the original game. But now they're 3 hours with mandatory walky-talky modern game sections and tight walls that hide loading pop in. It's also insane how much content was in the original game, and how little there is in this one. Back then you couldn't patch and DLC your way into a passable game anymore, it had to be good on arrival.

I think about playing remake, and then I remember the ghost chapter and the final Shinra building chapter, and I go back to playing Souls games.
I shudder to imagine what they'll do with the fun-filled endgame of the original with this new tedious chapter formula.

It's extremely tedious and the padding was obnoxious. I never see myself playing it ever again. I was almost fine with it even with all it's gigantic flaws, but the ending pushed it off a cliff.

There's people out there eating it up like "SEPHIROTH IS TRYING TO CHANGE THE FUTURE" like it's some kinda secret big brain Kojimbo sequel.

Even if that was true, I don't care. It was billed as a remake, and the ending deviates way too hard from it. The whole fate thing is so clumsily done and uninteresting.

EDIT I forgot to mention I hated the battle system thoroughly. I hated the same thing in Crisis Core and this one feels even worse. Call me a boomer or whatever but it would've been far better with classic turn based fighting. Smashing a monster or robot for 20 minutes while doing almost no damage to it is not fun.
