The Final Fantasy Thread

That's the other thing. If this were being done by the people who worked on the original, then it might have potential since they're basically twisting their own creation into something new,
It is to some extent. Nomura and Nojima were both there for the original. Thing is Nomura was only ever the art guy and Nojima has gone completely insane over the years. Kitase signed off on this

I've been playing FFVII remake since yesterday and oh my lord, it's beautiful. Very interesting plot choices that I am actually really down for and the attention to detail is stunning. It's everything I wanted and more - I just really want the other chapters to be released now. But I get the impression they're going to wait until everyone's finished with this one *because reasons.

Edit: Just read the spoilers a page back, can confirm from what I've played. I've just met Aerith and the dark spirit things are basically forcing Cloud and co to repeat what happened in the original. So for example when Cloud/Aerith tried to go a different route, or when the ShinRa tried to kidnap Aerith a little too early. The black spirit things stopped it from happening. Pretty interesting stuff.

too broke to get a PS4 yet. someone tell me if its worth buying one
This year the PS5 may come out but it has backwards compatibility being patched in with waves.

If you can find a regular PS4 for cheap I'd say go get one. I'm still using my launch PS4 and never upgraded to the pro.

Please don't remind us about that game period.
LR really wasn't a bad game. It trashed the last two Final Fantasy 13 games which were generally bad as far as continuity went but both of those were bad in a multitude of ways even before considering the story. LR's battle system was pretty good and there was way more stuff to do in the world and explore. It cribbed a ton from Valkyrie profile but it had the VP developers working on it. It was certainly better and more finished than 15 was.

Well...you got me there. And these are the people in charge of FF7 remake...
It's a different group from both 13 and 15. Nomura and a few others worked on the original 7.

The time travel shit doesn't bother me because they've done that stuff before and that's probably the only thing 13-2 did right was the time travel mechanisms and opening up different timelines.

Oh my god, the spergout over this is going to be fucking legendary.
They're going to have a Zack and Cloud team up thing against Sephiroth and I think they've ripped it off from TTGL or all the unused bro moments from 15

The game is mechanically solid, but the story is going to be heavily reliant on what the second game does. if they're allowing multiple branching paths that's going to be real interesting.

The game is not a dumpster fire though. It's doing better than what RE3 is pulling.

I really hope that the standards of OG fans haven't fallen so far that they meet this with a shrug. And judging from other places online at least, they aren't.

>it's selling well
No shit, it's FF7. Squeenix could ship a cd version of Superman 64 in an FF box and it would sell like hotcakes.

The new FFVII sounds fucking exceptional in all the good ways and I can't wait to see what sort of stupid shit Nomura does next.

I've just finished it after getting it early

but it does feel like a fanfic in some places, was the writer high as fuck when he did this? Most probably.

EDIT: As another guy put it

think of it like the evangelion rebuild movies.

Well the remake looks as wrong as I expected (being really Final Fantasy XIII-4 disguised as remaking FF7).

As I already said, FF7 was a game of its time that nobody in Square knows how to make anymore now that Sakugachi's gone from the company.

This is probably the strongest game since 9 or 10

11 was MMO garbage, 12 people could take or leave, 13 was trash 13-2 was trash, LR was actually good but people skipped it because the last two games were trash, 14 was a fucking dumpster fire and then was later fixed, 15 was half finished and then was never finished.

How could it be 13-4? it doesn't play anything like the three 13 games. The battle system is entirely different.

This really isn't a "remake", which means this was a ton of BS marketing. If there is meta, multiple dimensions that reference the original game, and even having characters AWARE of such timelines - this is pretty much a sequel.

That's not what fans wanted nor how it was advertised. Nobody should be supporting this shameless cash grab.
