The Final Fantasy Thread

Aeris' ultimate weapon has no materia slots IIRC and most people stick her with one of the earlier weapons because it buffs her magic stat.
Princess Guard has Materia Slots iirc. And I just meant the damage calculation gimmick anyway. Sort of a low health-power boost thing.

Mentioning her OP limit breaks felt redundant since they’re OP because she’ll be killed off.

I was thinking of the Parasol. Though you're right that her weapons don't have a gimmick.

Speaking of Tifa, can we all just agree that there's nothing wrong with a hot bar owner who can also serve as her own bouncer? And considering her bar is in the bad part of town that's some very, very rough men she's needed to bounce.
Kinda random but sure in the broad sense. Idk about all of that though. She learned how to fight before owning the bar, the slums actually seem mostly chill just poor. She likes dressing up and it’s probably good for business to flaunt.

Eh... just felt like being a bit thirsty for whatever reason. She's like a tomboy except... also good looking in a traditional sense.

She’s not a tomboy like at all lol. Yuffie is the tomboy. Even down to being chuuni. Hell, Aeris is arguably closer to tomboy in temperament.

Tifa is much more the trope of the passive acquiescent girl, one who just happens to punch things as her combat gimmick.

If there's one thing about Final Fantasy that I honestly miss, it's the Job system. I know that XI and XIV managed to "perfect" the job system by integrating it into an MMO and honestly? I'm happy that such a cornerstone of early Final Fantasy still exists in some capacity. With that in mind though, I really miss the old-fashioned job system in single-player FF games.

I've been going through Final Fantasy V Advance for the first time as an adult and I was honestly taken aback by the sheer flexibility of the job system. You have incentives to experiment with and eventually master multiple jobs. Ultimately, this means that the endgame goal should be to master all jobs so that you can go to town on Neo-Exdeath/Neo-Shinryu with a Mime/Freelancer. This is a non-issue for me though, because I'm more preoccupied with the journey than the destination this time around.

It's such a shame that X-2 is the closest to a "modern" mainline Final Fantasy game that has a robust job system.

Given how much SE loves to remake FF1, it's kind of a surprise that they never did so with a modern job system instead of its old-fashioned class system; you would start with the same 6 "basic" jobs (which are also the same as the starting jobs in FF11) and getting the rat tail for Bahamut would unlock 6 "advanced" jobs including Seer/Devout, Magus, Ninja, and Knight/Paladin. They would probably insist on adding characters FF3-style, although FF3DS never kept my interest (although the graphics probably had a lot to do with that).

Nowadays, the DS version of FF3 is the worst one to play because you no longer have access to WFC for all the Mognet quests. The PSP version gradually unlocks the Mognet stuff over the course of the game depending on who's the leading member of your party. The PC version is basically the PSP port, except with autosaves. Yes, you read that right: you can finally complete the Crystal Tower and the World of Darkness without resorting to emulator save states or cheat codes!

If you really want to give FF3 your best shot without any excuses, if for no other reason than to say you finally completed it, the PC version is the best way to go. It's not gonna be a good experience per se, but it's still charming in its own way and the Job system (for all its faults) is robust enough for what FF3 was trying to go for. Also, dying in the World of Darkness no longer means you get booted all the way down to the bottom of Crystal Tower!!!! (You seriously have no idea how much of a pain in the ass it was to complete FF3 without resorting to AR cheat codes or PPSSPP save states).

They finally announced FF7 Remake + dlc for PC via the Epic game store. It'll be out on the 16th of this month.
Tim Sweeney does it again.

It's also not coming to Xbox, nice that it took a year and a half for them to get that point across to Xbox FF fans.

Was Sony directly involved in funding FF7 Remake, or was this another case of them waving their dicks around?

I think it's a joint thing of exclusive content between Square and Sony for a set period of time. They did the same thing with KH3 and that dlc as well. I wasn't going to buy a PS5 to play the DLC and it'll be a nice upgrade since I'm coming from a base PS4 to an RTX 3080 powered computer.

Any type of limited exclusivity deal always has to do with funding part of the game, that's why companies agree to do it.

Xbox isn't getting it because Epic Has their own deal with Square Enix which covers PC and since Xbox is tied to PC they had the agreement take that into consideration.

The original Final Fantasy 7 came from Playstation to PC within a similar timeframe.

the best thing about final fantasy is that it gave us the tale of The Final Fantasy House.

Is it sad to say that the FF7 remake never excited me, even for a moment? The Compilation of FF7 is overwhelmingly shit with only two "good" entries: the original FF7 (which is a shit game upon retrospect) and Crisis Core (an otherwise fantastic game that's too easy and linear for its own good). This isn't even getting into how the FF7 compilation was what sparked Square Enix into trying the same trick twice with the Fabula Nova Crystallis games... only for most of them to either get panned right out the gate OR spend several years (if not a decade) in development hell only to get panned after the long-overdue release date.

There's a FF7R review I saw posted here in this thread that summed up the game perfectly. Can't remember what it was called though. Guy sounded Scottish or Irish or something. Same difference, right? :)
