The Final Fantasy Thread

Eh, personally, I liked FF16. I wasn't the best at the combat, but I liked the story for the most part.

Call me curious; what FF games do you guys recommend? I was thinking about giving FF9 another shot sometime, any suggestions for others?
4, 5, 6, 7, & 9 are kind of the golden set imho. Other mainline Final Fantasies have their strengths and are generally worth playing, but I think those five form the solid core of Final Fantasy stories & characters with a good array of battle and level up mechanics. 1, 3, 8, 10, & 15 I would call the second string. Interesting, but flawed. 2, 12, & 13 are just bad.

3, 8 & 10 flawed? Nah, is just your opinion. Those are pretty solid.
But saying 2 & 12 are bad is retard.

So do you think all Final Fantasy games except 13 are really good? I feel like the flaws of 2, 3, 8, 10, & 12 are known, but I'll explain myself.

2 has an overly simplistic story (it's basically Star Wars) and you grow stronger by repetitive actions, so it's optimal to just have your characters punch each other in the face over and over. It's maybe not as painful as 12 or 13, but it's one of the few FFs that when I played I just didn't enjoy at all.
3 is decent, but its story, classes, and combat get absolutely mogged by 5, which is basically just a better version of 3 in every way.
8 has an ultimately nonsensical plot and setting, the character relationships are absurdly written Squall and Rinoa fall in love just because, they have absolutely no chemistry. And everyone was orphans together in the same orphanage being raised by Edea but everyone forgot except Irvine and he wouldn't tell people he couldn't kill the woman who raised them? Come the hell on, I've read better fanfiction, the GF system is a huge pain in the ass to shuffle around for how often it forces you to change up your party and the level scaling system in conjunction with the GF system makes it actually worse to level up in FF8. Oh, and Triple Triad sucks ass.
10 actually has really solid combat mechanics, but the story choices and crappy dialogue/writing (though I'll confess that could be a translation thing) prevent me from enjoying it at every turn. Wakka (the best physical attacker in the game) fights things with a fucking ball. Sin destroys all technology except for the giant hi-tech zero-gravity blitzball arenas. The various mini-games to get the crests which you need for ultimate weapons are like pulling teeth. Every character acts like an FAS paint chip eating retard, and the setting makes no sense (people can just walk out of the afterlife and be normal? And most people just can't tell?). I'd love for 10's combat to be in a game that made sense.
12 is in the worst possible spot between a turn-based RPG and an action RPG. It's painful to play sped up or slowed down, and they literally added pointless unnecessary characters because they felt the writing of 12 being focused on actually cool, fantasy noble GoT style people wouldn't pull in the retards that attached to the series at 10. Also the License Board is somehow a worse Sphere Grid, which is quite the accomplishment. 12 is the opposite of my problem with 10; I would love to play 12's story in a game with better mechanics.

I'm not gonna say they're total garbage, but I would say that, out of ten stars, 1, 3, 8, 10, & 15 occupy the 5.0 to 7.5 range, depending on the game. 2, 12, & 13 are easily below 5.0. Conversely, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 9 are easily 8.5 to 10.0 territory.

FF5, FF10 and FF12. Definitely my top three.
You've got classic FF with the job class switching in 5, you've got the birth of the new FF theory in 10 with a great story and characters and FF12 bringing in a totally new feeling, style and aesthetic.
But if you want to play the best classic Final Fantasy game play Bravely Default.

There is something I find kind of odd about the ports of FF games. Basically, the classic NES and SNES games were ported to the PS1 EXCEPT for III. Even II and V were ported and translated to the PS1, but for some odd reason III wasn't.

What about FF Tactics?

Kh3 beta models for yazora and co are from ff15

Yazora Is noctis with orange hair and has same engine blade from versus. Promto and Luna are there and the the gladio / ignis partner was black interestingly enough

If PC players want a pretty shitty Action game with barely and RPG in it, then FF16 is the game for you.
With mods I can actually see it being pretty kickass combat wise. As for the plot.... Well I'm sure there's some entertainment value from making everyone look stupid.

I enjoyed the ambitious fantastical plot of 13 and it's sequels but I only ever watched the cutscenes so I can't guarantee it plays great.

So uh... CHAOS memes aside, how is Stranger of Paradise?

The story is hot garbage but the game-play I found to be very enjoyable. I played the main campaign co-op with a friend, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Although the game forces you to play some missions solo (Including the final mission for some fucking reason, absolutely retarded.), so your not gonna be able to co-op with a buddy for 100% of it. Pretty much the main things I enjoyed were the combat and job system. It was developed by Team Ninja so if you've played Nioh then it's very similar, including the shit-ton of loot drops from enemies. Havn't done the DLC though, so can't speak for that.

TLDR: Retarded Story but Good Combat.

I would like to add the story is actually genius in how retarded it gets. To the point that it actually circles around to being awesome.

Kinda repetitive in enemy variety but the boss fights are good. Dlc is supposed to be pretty good but I didn't buy it.

Jack is amazing. He gives the same amount of fucks about most of the story that the player does, which is to say none. Lich only gets to rattle off his Evil McKillington villain speech because he's the only one who stops Jack from punching him in the goddamn face in the cutscene; yes, your main character can't care any less about the bosses' over-dramaitc bullshit. Just sock the stupid motherfucker in the gob.
We need more heroes like Jack Chaospuncher.

It'd amazing how everyone says concord is flop of the year and not stillbirth
Difference being rebirth is actually a good game with attractive characters. It'll make money back when they release it on steam.

I cant remember the last time a modern AAA game without mods let you replay everything with skimpy beach wear.

Speaking of which, how soon do you think Rebirth's PC port will get announced? I'm guessing they will announce it sometime before TGA like FFVII Remake's PC port (albeit they released it on the Epic Scam Store first) and the game will probably be released on Steam sometime around December-January is my bet, since we all know Square wants to get this game out on PC ASAP to make up for all the lost sales.

You know, Rebirth is a game I really want to play. But with 16 hitting Steam soon, i would be surprised if Square announced Rebirth as a Epic Store exclusive.

Really do hope we get a Rebirth update at TGS.

They're not going to do that since they already announced that they won't be doing any exclusivity deals anymore, and Square would have to be profoundly retarded to hold any of their games hostage on EGS again since that clearly didn't work out for them, not to mention FFXVI PC is launching on both Steam and EGS.
