The Final Fantasy Thread

The big difference between 6 and 7 in my mind is the graphics. 6 set the gold standard for pixel art graphics in the 16-bit era. Any remake, no matter how much time and effort was put into it, would fail to live up to the original. Meanwhile, 7 is a fucking mess. Its the perfect candidate for a remake because anything they did with the graphics would be an improvement. The fact that they're doing a ground-up remake (rather than just a graphical polish) is just icing on the cake.

Didn’t Nomura hint at wanting to redo VI at some point? I know VI isn't nearly as popular in Japan as the West.

FF7 looks blocky as hell but it has a weird charm which I find endearing.
That and it's unique soundtrack give it such a special charm for me.

Seriously guys, compare the original's mako reactor track to the remake. I have no idea how anyone can say the new one is better. I'm milk though so what do I know?

Final Fantasy I for NES and Final Fantasy II and III for SNES were the best. FF VII for Playstion was okay but the series started getting gayer at that point. FF VIII was stupid. That's all I played. (actually i liked VIII i just hated the characters) You can see how it started sort of like dungeons & dragons with heroes gaining more experience, armor, and weapons with the turn based combat being an abstraction for battles. But by the time VIII came along you had a girl in a yellow skirt saving the world with a pair of nunchucks and the concept of a group of teenagers on an airship defeating the ultimate evil started seeming dumber every time. Plus the men all look like women now, the main character in X looked like meg ryan. Final Fantasy is gay.

New renders popped up online of not only one, but three new summons! I was only able to find images of the first one, however. EDIT: Found the other two.

They made carbuncle resemble a Pomeranian to probably sell more plushies.

Hold it, 5 had an actual cross dresser as a part of your party and 2 and 6 had a homosexual final boss,

Final Fantasy 2 had a weird battle system where the best way to level up was to beat up your own party, 3 was godawful trash, 4 had multiple versions with hard type being one with rollercoaster spikes in difficulty levels. Really the turn based battle system was refined with 6 since it had so many changes from 1-5.

If he's redoing 6 there's probably files hidden in 7 that will need to be examined. Stuff from 7 remake turned up in 15.

I like the remake version, I don't know what you're talking about. Still very industrial. That was my biggest fear, but it's mostly disappeared. It is very orchestral, which makes sense considering how much cleaner soundtracks have gotten, but it's not to the absurd levels that I was afraid of. The main battle them still has the metallic clangs, for instance, and they sound great.

I don't know if this was posted in the thread, but the demo was leaked. Ignore the fact that the person playing sucks complete dick. I'm still very worried that the entire first game will end when they leave Midgar, but the combat system looks really fun and Cloud is back to being sarcastic and cocky.

FFXIV is such a pathetic pile of shit. Major title update today; every location full of people. And yet, my queue timers, across 3-4 different attempts, go into the 4-5 hours throughout the day total. "This can't be right for a game more popular than WoW?" and I'm met with such justification as "well new content!", actually no. Most of it opens some time from now. "People just don't do pvp!", that's enough to completely nullify a large portion of the game, having this many players?

I really try to like XIV but these kind of moments are saddening. I do not play from the same time zone as the server, but for god's sake, it's the second most populated XIV server. How can it be this difficult to get anything done "out of primetime", which doesn't exist to begin with?

How's FFXV, i got gamepass and i wonder if its worth the 100GB?
Speaking as a newcomer to the series, I'm liking it so far. It'll last you a long time, although a lot of the sidequests are repetitive.

The game comes with all the DLC, including the multiplayer mode that takes up about 30 GB (so you can opt out to save space).

Play until you get board then just watch the ending via a longplay or just cutscenes. It starts out fun but then dies at some point so don't feel obligated to finish it. The sidequests get real tedious, too.

Any and all achievement related sidequest are not tedious. IIRC you're going to want to do the Zuu battle sidequest a few times because of the experience and items it offers.

You could also farm the Bandersnatch as well.

The Royal weapon dungeons are rather short outside of the Jaberwocky one where you need to be properly equipped or the boss will rape your ass with cheap bullshit, you essentially have to spam magic spells real quick before he freezes your entire party.

Not to mention the slog and puzzle nature of getting to the Jaberwocky with some risk of glitching and falling through the floor during the maze section.

But I say its worth playing since its free on Gamepass and if you don't like it you lost nothing from trying.

Supposedly you can explore the upper plate in the game now. I dunno how that will ruin getting to the top of midgar for dramatic effect but nothing in the game is supposed to be pre-rendered.

At the very least exploring the boundaries of the world will be interesting.

I had better luck, I went to the newest dungeon with a 5 min queue and there seem to be a lot more people doing the latest alliance raid since they removed the loot limit despite them being worse at the game than usual.

Final fantasy 15 still has that ending though
The problem? It was released in a novel
After reading the official short stories in the aftermath of FFX-2, I have a very low opinion of whoever they have writing their fiction. For god's sake, they were basically all about undoing everything and restoring the status quo before FF10 started (bringing back Sin, fuck you). Is this equally terrible?

From what I've heard, it's definitely not that bad. It goes off the alternate end to the Ardyn DLC where he can reject the gods' plan, and it's about Noctis saying fuck you to the gods. By the way, the X-2 novel was written by Nojima, who wrote X in the first place. His involvement is what has me skeptical about the VII Remake, because he's been slipping for awhile.

I came into some classic FF games for the PS1 recently and was considering playing through the series (only mainline game I played through to completion is IV) but the time sink is extremely off-putting. What are peoples though on the older games? Worth playing through or best left in the past? If anyone has suggestions for tackling (or not) the following that would be nice:

FF Origins (I & II), FF Anthology (IV & V), VI, VII, VIII.

How much do you like JRPGs? What have you played before? I'd have to know more about your tastes to know which if any to recommend.
