I'd feel greedy for asking for that, I'd be okay with tighter pacing and not adding stupid time ghost shit and Sephiroth wank to the original story. They got pretty close to making a remake that was about as good as we could hope for from Squeenix, but then the writers's massive egos struck and here we are.Man I wish we’ve gotten the same gameplay like the 1997 original but with 2020 graphics.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
I agree with all the story and pacing criticisms but knocking on the combat because it "doesn't pay respect to the original" is retarded. It isn't like they remade FF7 into a cawwadoody cover shooter or a transgender dating sim; they just took the combat and made it move in real time. I don't follow your logic.Sounds like you like action combat over turn based then. As you said yourself action combat systems existed at the time and yet the FFVII original team choose turn based for it. That the new team didn't respect this choice shows how much respect they have for the original game and it's ideas. Instead we get cringe fan fiction made by Nomura.
I really love how pro-FFVIIretread fans just ignore that it wasn't the original team but are probably the same people who would go apeshit if Konami made another Metal Gear without Kojima.
Would it be worth it, though? The Chrono Niggas would still be in the game.Man I wish we’ve gotten the same gameplay like the 1997 original but with 2020 graphics.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
If you don't follow the logic of how making a turn based game in to an action game is bad just because they didn't turn it in to an FPS then I don't think you understand game design. Turn based is a choice you make and it sets up a lot about the pacing and nature of your game, action is also a choice and it too changes a lot about the pacing and nature of the game. Just because you don't like turn based combat and prefer action combat doesn't mean everyone should just embrace the action combat system, just because you like something doesn't mean everyone else has to.I agree with all the story and pacing criticisms but knocking on the combat because it "doesn't pay respect to the original" is exceptional. It isn't like they remade FF7 into a cawwadoody cover shooter or a transgender dating sim; they just took the combat and made it move in real time. I don't follow your logic.
Agree with everything you said, just wanted to note the expanded universe stuff of FF7 was done by Nomura, not the original team or Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nomura is also handling this Reboot so it's no surprise when the Reboot comes off as more melodramatic and animu as well.I am currently playing trough FF7 on a PS1 emulator. It's a fun yet dumb anime experience. I haven't touched it in a while.
The remake has a cool art style, I will give that the art asset people but the whole weird plot ghosts and muh kingdom hearts/FF7 expanded Sepiroth thing. It made me just stop caring. (Is it a Hideo Kojima game?)
I think FF7 is overrated. In the art style FF8 was way more influential in future titles while FF9 is pretty much the strongest PS1 era game in the series with a lot of love for the NES-SNES era instalments. Also I really don't like how the expanded universe stuff of FF7 makes it even more melodramatic and animu in a bad way.
Seeing how is the industry I am semi-glad that we won't see a remake for Final Fantasy 6.
It's a shame. 80s and 90s era Squaresoft was pretty impressive. All they needed to do is what they have promised to do. Remake the game with current tech. Yet they mess up. I simply don't know what to feel. How do you even mess up such an obvious cashgrab idea? I low-key wonder if the whole remake process will be finished at all? It took them years to finish Midgar and they even expanded upon it as well. And by all measures that is a small part of the game.Agree with everything you said, just wanted to note the expanded universe stuff of FF7 was done by Nomura, not the original team or Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nomura is also handling this Reboot so it's no surprise when the Reboot comes off as more melodramatic and animu as well.
They fired Hironobu Sakaguchi, the original creator of Final Fantasy and writer for all the best games in the series, over Final Fantasy The Spirits Within, yet Nomura got to direct the terrible Final Fantasy VII compilation that was an utter failure compared to what it could have been and still keep his job. Square-Enix is run by ramen-noodle-heads.
Which is really stupid in hindsight, because that movie is more Final Fantasy than some of the more recent releases. They fired Hironobu Sakaguchi, the original creator of Final Fantasy and writer for all the best games in the series, over Final Fantasy The Spirits Within
Spirits Within almost sank the company. Of course, Tanaka (FFXIV 1.0 guy) almost sank the company and they kept him around for a little while afterwards (and even briefly put him back in charge of FFXI!), so they really shouldn't have gotten rid of Sakaguchi. Ideally, they'd keep both, but with someone over them to keep them in line. Tanaka did good work on single-player games, and Sakaguchi's work on the series is of course legendary. I'm assuming it's some kind of Japanese cultural nonsense where demoting somebody no matter how badly deserved is supreme dishonor and an insult against their family for seven generations, or something.Agree with everything you said, just wanted to note the expanded universe stuff of FF7 was done by Nomura, not the original team or Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nomura is also handling this Reboot so it's no surprise when the Reboot comes off as more melodramatic and animu as well.

You're gonna tell me that the reason Sephiroth pops up around every other corner to fondle Cloud's balls is because they changed the combat system? Blow me. I may not understand game design but I understand storytelling, and having an action combat system is not the reason that the pacing in FF7Remake is a fucking disaster. If the combat system was turn-based it would be the same fucking disaster with a turn-based combat system. It's terrible because the people behind the remake were either pretentious incompetents or were more concerned with stretching out the least interesting part of the original into a standalone game, with all the padding, melodrama and Shyamalan plot twists that they seem to believe a full game requires. If you don't follow the logic of how making a turn based game in to an action game is bad just because they didn't turn it in to an FPS then I don't think you understand game design. And I'm not just knocking the combat for not paying respect to the original, I'm knocking the whole game for not paying respect to the original. It's made by a totally different team and is a soulless cash grab with no respect in literally everything it did, yes, including the combat.
Also get the fuck out of here with "they just took the combat and made it move in real time", not even fucking close to true. The truth is they just took Final Fantasy XV's combat system and lazily ported it.
I think it was pretty easy to infer seeing as every other mainline Final Fantasy at the time was an ARPG. They probably should've had a gameplay trailer out earlier in the development cycle rather than a year before release, but maybe I just don't understand game development. My position on changing the battle mechanics is the following:
I am a simple man, announce that shit when the game is being announced. We -in theory- live in the information age yet these companies can't open their mouths and inform their own customers what to expect.
Dragon Quest 11Have they made any decent singleplayer games since merging with Enix? That in my mind was where things started to go downhill. More focus on stupid batshit stories and less on good gameplay.
Gonna stop you right here. Did I say that in my post or is that your own autism that you brought to the table? Pacing is more than just a story thing brother, games have their own pacing and structure, and most of it is determined by players and the systems they engage with. The writers didn't put "And Cloud spends 10 hours grinding monsters" in their script. You're gonna tell me that the reason Sephiroth pops up around every other corner to fondle Cloud's balls is because they changed the combat system? Blow me.
If you're focusing on the story, you're focusing on the wrong things.>KH3
>good
jesus christ
Minus the attraction bullshit the game play was fun, and..once you got to saving Aqua things weren't bad. The problem with KH3 is that the worlds felt like a tacked on Checkbox as opposed to part of the story.>KH3

I'd say that was only the case with Frozen's. There was nothing to that level and it's main focus was the sled ride.Minus the attraction bullshit the game play was fun, and..once you got to saving Aqua things weren't bad. The problem with KH3 is that the worlds felt like a tacked on Checkbox as opposed to part of the story.
I assumed you meant that the more fast-paced combat of the game had some kind of effect on the narrative pacing, which would be r'etarded but I could at least see how a nostalgiafag could somehow make that connection. Now I see that thisGonna stop you right here. Did I say that in my post or is that your own autism that you brought to the table? Pacing is more than just a story thing brother, games have their own pacing and structure, and most of it is determined by players and the systems they engage with. was just a roundabout way of sayingTurn based is a choice you make and it sets up a lot about the pacing and nature of your game, action is also a choice and it too changes a lot about the pacing and nature of the game.
Something I think would be obvious, but I guess I needed to be told that thing that everybody knows. I still don't get it, if FF7Remake had turn-based combat it would be the exact same bad game that it is now, Time Jannies and all. But hey, at least the combat would be turn-based!When you change the pacing of the game's combat, the way in which the combat is paced in the game changes.
KH-1 and 2 the Disney worlds at least had the tangential excuse of "Sora is looking for Kairi, Trying to figure out what the nobodies are up to." with the Addition of the Evil League of Evil having direct connections with Maleficiant and Riku.IIRC KH2 was the only one that had some of the overarching plot in the Disney worlds themselves. Kingdom hearts 1 didn't, neither did COM because all the larger narrative scenes played after you finished a world, the two DS games were bad and were turned into movies, BBS only had the plot take place on non-disney worlds, Dreamdrop distance was the same deal. Places like Twilight Town and hallow bastion and other original worlds was where the majority of the story happened.
Oh boy! Not only do I have this shitty "remake" with its Nomura-ass ending, I also have to run in circles in this room for about an hour, grinding xp so that the next boss doesn't curbstomp me!
I finished the game a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed it.
But,
WHY THE FUCK DID NOMURA HAVE TO SHOVE IN TIME TRAVELLING JANITOR GHOSTS? That shit removes any and all agency from the characters. Wedge doesn't die naturally, he dies because he's sucked out of a building by the fucking Plot Ghosts.
Why the hell did Nomura have to make it metacommentary at the end? Is this some kind of "fuck-you" to FF7 purists?
Why the fuck did Nomura have to make Sephiroth into fucking Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts? Why the fuck are there (allegedly?) three of him, one from the future, one from the current timeline, and a "good" one? By the time Kingdom Hearts 3D got into time travel with having like fucking 7 Xehanort clones and Mickey Mouse casting one of the strongest Final Fantasy Spells, I gave up on the franchise completely. Please don't fuck up FF7's story like you did with KH. Please.
I really, really fucking hope Zack is still dead and that the cutscene at the end was an illusion, and they don't change Aerith's death. Undoing those two would royally fuck the story up, and remove the tragic aspects of it that make the game so lovable.
WHY IS BIGGS STILL ALIVE? I loved the Avalanche crew, but dammit, let their deaths mean something.
And another thing, Dunkey's review on this is complete shit.
If he doesn't like JRPGs, why does he keep playing them? Even during E3, Dunkey was all like, "lol this is when everyone's gonna realize that FF7's story is total garbage lul", knowing he'd hate the game.
Now you have Dunkey fanboys flooding twitter going "LUL JRPG FANS MAD BECUZ DONKEY HAS OPINION" when no fan of the game is reacting in anger. Dunkey's a garbage reviewer, whose opinions are taken as gospel even though they're also apparently "just jokes" and "shouldn't be taken seriously".
Like, it's a Japanese game, no fucking shit it'll have anime motifs. It's a remake of a Japanese RPG game from the late 90s, no less, what the fuck did you expect? Complaining about "anime grunting" and "anime breaths" is the dumbest thing in the world, it's a translated Japanese game, no shit they'd keep that in to match. Do you really expect Cloud to be silent when he has his headaches?
Why the fuck is it so bad that some people in the Sector 7 slums were evacuated? Everyone in the top half got fucked by the pillar's destruction anyway, countless lives were still lost.
The way he edits shit to make things look worse is fucking awful too. He intentionally uses the stair scene, which is an obvious joke section of the game full of humorous banter between the three playable characters about how long and tedious climbing them is, to show how "bad" the "platforming" is. Him using the "The Mayor" joke to show how "bad" the voice acting is is stupid too, because the whole joke is Cloud, an uncharismatic character, saying the line in a deadpan way to random people who don't know what the fuck he's talking about. The other half of it is that the Mayor and the Avalanche spy both say it in a super enthusiastic way, as a counter to Cloud.
One of the dumbest points in the video was when he claimed that President Shinra said "mana" instead of "mako", when he clearly said mako.
Dunkey is fucking cinemasins for video games, absolutely impervious to critique for their nitpicking bullshit because they cover their videos in a thick layer of irony and self-awareness that the dumbass middle schoolers who watch their videos love, and now, whenever Dunkey gets any bit of pushback for his dumb opinions, his fanboys use the line "You are nitpicking and biased"and "IT'S JUST COMEDY! IT'S JUST A JOKE GET OVER IT HE HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN YOU" over and fucking over again to defend their god.
He really should just stick to reviewing rebbit tier "self-aware" surrealist indie games and pretentious AAA story games at this point. Go back to unironically being excited for TLOU2 and other movie games like it. That's where the scary anime grunting won't hurt you.
Haha, he's funny because he slurs his words and mispronounces things on purpose, laugh.
I also really like how he did an H3H3/Idubbz and picked some 15 year old kid with 200 subscribers who countered his OctoPath Traveler video, no name censoring and all, and picked his video apart for his rabid fanbase of 5 million kids, basically siccing them on him to the point where every video he uploads has a massive Dislike to Like ratio, even though he hasn't mentioned Dunkey in two fucking years.
He even linked it in the description for his fans to swarm it. That video really must've hurt his ego bad. Like, really bad.
Then again, Dunkey's always been really sensitive to people not liking him. In his Metal Gear Rising video, he makes a point of showcasing negative comments he gets https://youtube.com/watch?v=FMXv2cx9-TM,
and I think, in this video or another, he goes off while attacking an enemy while yelling things like "GONNA CALL ME FAT, EH?! DON'T LIKE MY VIDEOS, HUH? FUCK YOU LET'S SEE YOU DO BETTER"
Even to this day, his fans are swarming that kid's video, because no one can ever even DARE attack Papa Dunkey, his word is sacrosanct, hallowed be thy name Jason Gastrow.

What's worse is Cr1tikal's video. Why is this guy trying to be the new Boogie2988 of Youtube? Why the fuck does he have to be such a fence-sitting whiteknight for his youtube pals so fucking hard?
Every time a big name Youtuber that Charlie's had contact with at least once does something deserving of criticism, Charlie's right there to hop on their dick and ride it until they feel secure. Without fucking fail, he will gleefully jump in with any big youtuber's circlejerk and add his wagon in to defend them. Charlie's such a fucking panderer, he will never, ever go against group opinion or have one of his own unless it's a Boogie2988 type "differing opinion" where he goes, "But both sides!!" and/or taking such a small, tiny, subtle slant to the opposing side that doesn't look all that different than just fence sitting. If the group is against it, he's against it. If the group is for it, he's for it. If two big name youtubers are going against each other, "but both sides".
It was already bad when he shifted away from gaming content and became more and more of a shitty reaction channel, but gaining such an ego that you now think that no matter what the lowly commoners think, they're wrong, and the big name Youtuber who you can get on your garbage podcast is always right and you must defend them makes it even worse. What happened to Pre-2016 Charlie, the one who said "I'm not doing a facecam, facecams are stupid, I'm just glad you all know my name"? Now he's become worse than what Vinesauce parodies in his V-dub videos. "Everyone go subscribe and superchat my Twitch streams! Use this support code from my sponsor to support my living style!" He's a social climber. Not even the sexual humor he makes is funny. He looks like he never grew past being a college sophmore.
It's fucking astounding how people who are so ready to give an opinion on something can't man the fuck up when people don't like that opinion and have an opinion on their opinion.
