if you grinded AP or were just lazy you could put 4x cut on your fastest attacker and have Added Effect + Contain to petrify guys. I have heard Added Effect + Hades is also good but never tried it.
Matra Magic, Trine, and Aqualung or Magic Breath (though frankly you could get Beta by this point) would tide you over for most of the game until you got beta.

fire + elemental on your armor would let you take one beta hit early on to learn it with your first enemy skill. it usually took a few tries to get beta on the character you need and run away without dying, but having that nuke early on made aeris capable of nuking pretty much anything for a long time.

and I thought I was cheating by just walking my way over to get it before Nibelheim lmao

i hated making the return trip lol

I got it my first play through on accident by my character with Enemy Skill dodging the attack but still learning it, then successfully running away. it wasn't until a lot later that i realized that you're not expected to have such a strong spell so early on

This one isn't as fancy, but once you had Alexander and MP Absorb, you could combine those to solve pretty much every random encounter with one action. If there were at least 2 enemies, Alexander would always make its MP back (and more) and obliterates almost all enemy groups. Also Phoenix + Final Attack for flavor.
A little more boring but I find the "Deathblow + Added Attack" and "Time + Elemental" weapon combo to be particularly funny. Once you get God Hand for Tifa it basically becomes an empowered 2x cut on her with a Stop proc on each hit. Add Long Range to give her back row and not having to worry about the rare flyers

I assumed you meant that the more fast-paced combat of the game had some kind of effect on the narrative pacing, which would be r'etarded but I could at least see how a nostalgiafag could somehow make that connection.
FF7R's combat isn't any more fast paced than the originals. Yeah your characters act faster but things take more hits to kill to compensate.

Did people generally thing the English or Japanese voices in the remake were better? I finally got around to starting it and was wondering which was a better experience.
I'm getting really tired of weebs that know something about honorifics and have maybe 100 Japanese words claiming they can actually make this decision.

You can tell Nomura was getting sick of being restricted in what he could and couldn't do with Disney stuff. KH1 and KH2 were more free form in allowing him to do whatever, but they held is hand with 3 and that's part of the reason it took so dam long to make.

Cant wait till Nomura goes off the rails from Disney and does whatever the hell he wants.

[PS1 FF7]
I think the steal/morph command makes grinding the random encounters kinda fun.
Having an ATB boost from Speed Drink (stolen from Vice) while having a Hard Edge I stole in the Shinra headquarters gave Rufus quick run for his money. Also those Carbon Bangles were handy too.

I've been playing through the FF4 remake on DS again, and honestly I'm a little sad they never did do 3D remakes of V and VI. Would have been really neat to see them get the remake treatment. I liked what they did with IV especially, adding new mechanics, having a new and improved translation, and revamping the difficulty. Hell, with how popular VI is (at least here in the West), it's kind of odd they haven't done a remake for that one.

I know that one guy on the development team wants to do a V remake, and if they do it'd be neat if it was like what they did with III and IV, chibi 3D and all.
I really don't understand how S-E operates, to make full 3D remakes of 3 and 4 and then release some half-assed retreads of FF5 and 6 with sub-RPG Maker quality sprites. In a world where even fans were doing a better job than they could on their own time, like that Chrono Trigger remake that got DMCA'd.

They're IOS ports

The same thing happened to Dragon Quest 1-3. Really the only 2d remasters done with actual care was Origins version of 1 and 2 for the Playstation/PSP/GBA.

the 3d DS remakes were not that good and 3 was especially awful and made worse than the original from a mechanics standpoint.

You know what happened? IOS and Android happened. Before, on the GameBoy and especially DS, you had to actually put in effort for your portable games. And Square put a lot of effort into the remakes of III and IV. Then when the IOS came out, Square realized that you didn't even need to put any effort into making shit for mobile phones (fuck just look the gacha games they put out) so they just shat out V and VI.

Even funnier is that you can get III and IV on IOS and the gulf between them and V and VI is insane.

I like passing through Junon and stuff. Makes it seem like the world isn't just a linear contrivance. I bet the Remake will not allow you to bribe the guards to get by. You'll only move forward or select an old chapter.

From level design to combat, to even the fucking gummyship missions KH3 was the most solid game out of the whole series.
I'm gonna be blunt, I think combat was actually pretty weak in KH3. The 'press triangle to do super moves' is cool and all, but it feels like a downgrade from 'press triangle to do a move based on the other enemy'. Not to mention there were soooooo many times I got 3 or 4 different 'press triangle to win' buttons, and I didn't want to use any of them. It's press X and sometimes triangle, that's the ideal Kingdom Hearts.

Not to mention a lot of the more unique Nobodies, Heartless, and Unversed were either absent or relegated to one-off minibosses, with the dream eaters left as friggin' PNGs. So many of the really good KH2 enemies were just not around, especially in places they'd fit perfectly - imagine the car enemies in the Toy Story world, they'd fit PERFECTLY.

Sephiroth wasn't even the hardest fight in the game, you can wreck his shit with counterstance.

Hardest boss fights are the following

  1. Hard mode VR Bahamut/Ifrit
  2. Hard mode Hellhouse
  3. Hard mode Elligor
  4. Hard Mode Arsenal
  5. Hard Mode Malboro
There's 114 enemies in the whole game and I wish we had more huge ass non-boss enemies like behemoth.

Can't you cast stop on Elligor at some phase?

For the most part I agree, though difficulty wise-some parts felt kinda wonky. I don't recall ever dying on a boss but some random encounters would completely wreck me cause a group of fire breathing dogs would immediately AoE me to death before I got to the chests with fire resistant equipment.

Those dogs are bullshit in every version. The thing is this: their AoE deals damage as a fixed fraction of the victim's max HP (I think it was one quarter but it might have been one fifth). The only thing that matters is whether your equipment renders you weak vs. fire, strong vs. fire, or normal vs. fire, which all change that fraction appropriately. Gaining more levels helps you strike first, and helps you deal more damage to kill them quicker, but does nothing to help you withstand their attack. Thus, if you are over-leveled, the dogs are going to be quite a jarring shock. The game has a number of such fixed fractional damage attacks and they're all a pain in the ass to deal with.

That is where 90% of the exception is but I can oblige that. Kind of already said the shipper shit tbh.

- Some people saying the people who don't like the Remake are the same crowd that didn't like The Last Jedi (this is meant as an insult).
- The head writer saying Aeris is the most important character and people having a 'tism fit over that (kind of shipping)
- Niggas still mad about Tifa's tits
- ludicrous tumblr-nosed art of Tifa looking like a black man (I did not save it obviously but will look)
- Comparing the Remake to Kingdom Hearts (said as a compliment)
- Defending the sequels to FFX (including the book where Tidus gets blown up)

I'll get screens of stuff from now on.
She is though. Her death is one of the most iconic story beats in the history of video games.
