...apart from the fact that I enjoyed it (as did some other people clearly). Maybe I went into it expecting something different than what I got, but I still enjoyed the gameplay, the character interactions and the twist is an interesting set up that I'd like to see the pay off for before coming to a conclusion whether it ruined the story. So I don't really care what they want to call it, I'm more interested in the quality of the game.

It's not like I'll be going into part 2 blind. I'll be keeping up on any news and leaks or trailers that come out, Mindlessly consuming is dumb, but I'm also not gonna dump a game because the marketing department intentionally hid a plot twist for the sake of suspense.
Was it for the sake of suspense or was it so they could sell more copies? Final Fantasy VII Reboot Sequel doesn't market as well, I can promise you that.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other probably. I mean, yeah, I'm sure no one in that board meeting was insisting that they tell players because they want to make less money, but the twist also isn't a surprise if you know it's a sequel.

Zodiac Age for FFXII has been surprisingly good. The voice acting is solid, the story is pretty solid political intrigue, the battle system is much better than 13, and the world feels like the right size. The licensing system is disappointing but functional; not too complex, but really lacking compared to classic job systems IMO. In the end, 90% of all battles are the entire party hacking away at everything in sight. Boss battles are also pretty disappointing for the most part. The quickening system (limit breaks) sucks but it doesn't matter much.

I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I can't remember the last time that I wanted to see what happens next in the story of an FF game. I know a lot of people dislike Vaan but I generally like the cast quite a bit; there isn't really a main character, and Vaan is pretty believable as a brat who gets sucked up into politics and war. Balthier and Fran are great characters and the world feels pretty consistent unlike FFXV where everything was patchwork garbage. The music is pretty good too- different style from Uematsu but fits the world nicely. FFT had a great soundtrack and FFXII carries on the spirit well.

I'd recommend picking up Zodiac Age while it's on sale sometime. I've heard it improves upon the original a lot so I wouldn't bother with the original release.

I got the aerith Affirmation on my second playthrough

It's a big nod tot he church glitch of the first game, but it's also setting shit up. It's the most revealing out of any of the affirmation scenes since she can astral project images of herself

Stupid question, but is there any way of getting the AI to attack a specific enemy with their regular attacks?
If you have it set on classic they'll focus in on what you're targeting. You shouldn't need to have them attack something specific for more than a few seconds though. if you switch to them and then attack the monster yourself and then switch back they should stay on that monster.

The only actual fight with adds that needs the AI to focus would be bahamut. But you can negate that if you have fire absorbing equipped and ifit will heal you.

I have no idea why they decided to remake III (which was hot garbage) and not V (which is actually good.)

The NES version of III is pretty great for the era. If they had remade it properly, I think it would be better than V, which is way more popular than it deserves IMO.

5 had some really iconic shit in it- Battle at the Big Bridge, great job system, Exdeath, etc. It was overall a pretty silly game but I always found it really enjoyable.

I'm really biased because the DS version of III was the first Final Fantasy I ever played, and judging from other people's opinions of it, it appears I'm the only one who genuinely likes it.

Is FF12 worth a buy? I hear less about that game than any other. I remember on its release most people mainly focused on bunny ass
It's ok.

I'd only strongly recommend it if you really liked Final Fantasy Tactics or Vagrant Story and want more of that world because it uses the same setting (and is also from the creator of those games).
This is bullshit. The company says that but it's still bullshit. The only thing Tactics and FFXII have in common is the name of the world.

The music for 12 has a lot of the same spirit as FFT but otherwise I agree. No crossover characters, history, or mechanics

Same composer (Hitoshi Sakimoto). Yasumi Matsuno, the director and scenario writer for FFT, was also one of the original directors for FF12, but he left allegedly due to health reasons. Of course, when Tanaka left a little while after FF14 1.0 failed, it was also supposedly for health reasons, which somehow didn't prevent him from being involved in a startup company immediately afterwards (and we know how much work that is), so I don't trust any announcement of health problems from SE staff. I'd love to know if Matsuno originally planned for more ties to FFT and Vagrant Story (which he also produced and directed) before he left/was forced out.

According to wiki, Sakaguchi wouldn't even play 12 because Matsuno left. I imagine there's some dumb corporate drama that led to all of it

Not really getting the dislike of the FF3 remake. I always thought it was really good but I've also never bothered to emulate the original.
As someone who likes to mess around with class systems I enjoyed it, but it has these weird issues where despite it being a remake they decided not to add QoL things that they had every opportunity to. IIRC it doesn't have the usual MP system which makes it a hassle to have to mini or toad yourself for some dungeons since your magic is more limited than usual, and the lack of a dungeon savepoint where you can heal also means that if you get in a bad situation you have to spend time backtracking to an inn which doesn't really make things challenging as much as tedious, IMO

I think it is okay, but the enemies became damage sponges because of the limit of three enemies per battle, while twice that was normal in the original. Also, they did a crappy job balancing the classes in the remake.

It's ok.

Matsuno had everything tied together, but SE kept forcing him to remove it, which is why he eventually left. The characters are supposed to be related to the FFT cast, but the only one which was kept/slipped in is Balthier being a direct ancestor of Mustadio.
