The Final Fantasy Thread

How many more installments do you expect to be in the remake and how long do you think it will be before it’s done?
Not counting DLC? About 3. As for time, about maybe six possibly seven years? Too long and I think they'd run into a Duke Nukem situation. I think maybe they've got it more planned out than they'd want to admit.

How many do you think there'll be?

6 more so we can have 7 games of Final Fantasy 7.

I think it will be more than 3 and it could very well slip into another console generation. That’s why I think this idea of keeping them confined to the same hardware is not realistic.

I imagine if they can make a ps5 version, they could easily make a ps4 version too.

So you think it'll be across three console generation?

You reached too far with this one. I am going to choose to ignore it and pretend everything is like it always has been.
The only real downside was maybe needing to run through the robot arm puzzle a few too many times to get all the dresses.

Hard mode playthroughs are fun, all the bonus bosses are fun, arena fights are fun, side activities are fun like collecting all the monster entries.

Kind of????

It was taken out of context... Again.

I swear, it's almost like the so called evil lefties are doing this just to rile people like yellowflash up. That or just more idiotic gaming journalism from the site that originally posted it (The Gamer).
That guy is obsessed with Japan. Comes off as really weeby so I can’t take him seriously. Also overblows things.

Only kind of diversity I care about tbh. Making games available to more gamers > random trannies and nigs

X was my first FF game, so it's very nostalgic for me and holds a special place in my heart. I still have my PS2 copy and love it to this day. Beating it for the first time back in sixth grade blew me away.
Yes, I almost cried. I wasn't ready for the ending.
While I've never cared for the HD version's graphics I'll probably end up getting it at some point. Good thing you can play with the original OST.

10 is in a weird spot where it's judged both in hindsight and with rose-tinted glasses. It was a graphical monster, and the soundtrack has some bangers, indeed.

I was a surprised by how fun it was to revisit those towns in 10-2.

X-2 initially threw me for a loop because of the tonal shift, but I've come to appreciate it more in recent years. I totally get all the criticisms against it, and call me sappy, but I was just happy to see Tidus return in the good/true ending. I thoroughly enjoyed his relationship with Yuna.

I'm very hesitant about X-3 possibly seeing the light of day though.

FF X is one of my personal favorite FFs, largely because I enjoy the cast and the plot progression. It's ultra-linear, but the story makes up for it by making you feel like you're on a long journey. It's all about the places you visit and the people you meet along the way as you edge closer towards Zanarkand. Could it have been open world? Perhaps, but I don't know if I personally would have gotten the same effect if it did. I especially love how the twist halfway through recontextualizes the journey as less of a pilgrimage and more like a death march, and you can feel Tidus and Rikku's desperation as they get closer.

I also adore the battle system. The way the game keeps track of upcoming turns gives the combat an extra sense of strategy, especially during boss fights. It becomes as much a game of paying attention to who goes next as it is just surviving the onslaught.

Honestly I don't really mind Tidus all that much either. Part of it is because I like James Arnold Taylor as an actor (even if he and most of the English cast got some really shit directing) and part of it is because I think I have a higher tolerance of annoying characters than most. Frankly I was kinda surprised to see so many people outright despise him when I became more aware of the discourse surrounding the game.
