I met him though DeviantART around the spring or summer of 2014, I’m not sure.
We were both in the anti-Pooh Adventures circle (which looking back was incredibly autistic for me to be in, but this was eight years ago and I was a wee Chewy Suarez) and he was the “chill, cool older guy” figure that, I’m not going to lie, I thought was cool. He had great-looking art, an edgy sense of humor, and was likeable. He was pretty popular in that circle because of it. If you look up his old username, you’ll get a ton of art trades and commissions he did with other people. Fortunately, I never interacted with him any farther then as friends. Once in a while he’d comment on something I did and we’d have a small conversation. He even did a piece for me and drew a character I designed quite a bit.
He eventually joined the Alexandra Mae Mulholland trolling group once the Pooh’s Adventures group lost steam and fucked around with her as well. Looking back, it was weird as fuck considering most if not all of the people in that group were minors while Ruben would have at least been 20-21. Alex herself was 13-15 at that time. It’s okay when other teenagers mess with a teenager, but that’s not something a guy in college should be interested in. I think he even dated a girl in that group (nikkineko333 according to ED), who definitely was a minor then.
After that group splintered due to in-fighting (what else happens in teenage friend groups), I went my own way but I still followed Ruben’s account. That ended with that Sonikku parody. Even I thought that was retarded. Saw the first page of him fucking his furry OCs acting like he was the hottest shit ever and unfollowed him.
Looking back now seven years later, I’m not surprised he behaves the way he does. It’s like watching that “chill older dude in college” that you thought was cool to hang out with as a high schooler. Once you become his age, you realize that it’s not normal for people to hang out with people quite younger then him and that he can’t get any friends of his own, and that changes how you see him when he’s still hanging out with the high school kids.
