Back in the late 90's, a total genius by the name of Dave Hampton unleashed the monstrosity known as Furby upon this Earth. Despite the fact that a vast majority of people found them extremely creepy, the Furby went on to do so well to the point where people were literally killing each other and paying thousands of dollars just to get their hands on one, not unlike the Tickle Me Elmo craze. The Furby did well enough to spawn two revivals, but like all fads, they had to fade away eventually. Fast forward to today and there is virtually no sign of Furby other than the niche segment of people who continue to enjoy them to this day. Not an issue, right? If the community wasn't an issue then God will truly have abandoned us all as lost causes.

Initially, they were about as chill as a community about talking owl bootlegs could get, mostly consisting of people who grew up with them along with the occassional kid who was likely introduced to them via their parents (though you did have the kids who found them through the Internet and what not as well). The biggest drama up until these days was a user named TheGreenFurby spamming a Furby fan forum and making petty threats towards another user just because she had lost interest in Furby (and even then, it was pretty obvious the threats he was making were complete BS). While many people left the community due to GreenFurby's actions (they were sick of drama and didn't want any part in it), there were people who filled the void left by these departures anyway, and when the 2012 version of the demonspawns hit the stores, it began going downhill from there.

Perhaps the biggest example of now-constant drama in the community is the fur-bies incident. fur-bies was a community member who frequently bought Furbies to sell to other people, presumably those who couldn't afford eBay (for some reason) or Amazon. Fur-bies was targeted by the Furby masses due to renouncing her transgender identity after she decided that she was in fact cis scum and not an oppressed minority like many had hoped for.

Our outstanding Furbish citizens then decided that this was TRANSPHOBIA and must be dealt with accordingly.

fur-bies2.jpg

Eventually, fur-bies could no longer handle the snowflake rage and ragequit the community, presumably never to be seen again. According to fur-bies, this entire "transphobia" call-out was the result of them telling people to report the Furby Confessions blog (more on them in a bit) and this was the blog's form of petty revenge.

Another favorite target of the Furby Confessions Buearu of Investigation is Furbae (first name Celia), who is probably the biggest dramacow within the community. This post should cover virtually everything, but of particular note is an incident where she supposedly scammed an autistic kid out of over 500 dollars worth of Furby-related merchandise. Even though the items were ridiculously overpriced, the asking price was paid and the items were recieved. The buyer, who was angry, scared, and presumably attempting to stir up more drama for the hell of it, posted a "warning" onto their Tumblr, leading many of Celia's fans to raid the warning post and the entire blog with messages begging the user to commit suicide in an attempt to silence them. Logs of Celia's "scamming" nature can be seen here:

More Furbae drama:

Now onto the Confessions blog itself, which are just as big of dramacows as Celia is. You thought [insert community here] was the pinnacle of mental health issues? Think again. The only section of the internet that comes close to having as many issues as the furb-fucks do is Tumblr (although considering their general base of operations is Tumblr, this shouldn't be too shocking). If your self-diagnosed mental illness isn't one of the "cute" mental illnesses, you will for the most part be outcasted (although this isn't because the community thinks you're insane and this is their twisted way of trying to convince you to see a professional, its because your illness is indeed not cute and you're better off withering away in a hole.)
fc1.jpg

fc2.jpg

When the Confessions freaks aren't being mental health hazards or superb internet sleuths, they're sperging out over even the most trivial of Furby-related things, such as whether or not certain Furbies say certain phrases. According to them, a robot in a fursuit is serious fucking business, and if it isn't serious business to you, you can fuck off.
fc3.jpg

fc4.jpg

fc5.jpg

And now to the grand finale. While pedoforks have probably been roaming around the community in private for years, they have just decided that it's a great idea to come out of the woodwork and make themselves known to their fellow Furby lovers. Despite even the Confessions blog swiftly condemning their actions, they seem to be making almost zero effort to weed out the pedos within the community, whether its by naming and shaming them or sending over reports to local authorities so that they can investigate; they don't even encourage the countless victims who message them about pedos in the community to notify authorities. The only effort they've made is naming DD/LG enthusiasts, warning their followers to stay away.

And according to this anon, the Confessions blog has been knee deep in bad behavior themselves. Although the proof yet again is unseen, it isn't unbelievable that they have skeletons in the closet, but until proof is actually provided, I won't completely believe it.

Fur-bies did make a post about why the drama started. (Archive)
Apparently they used to be a Tansman, even going so far as to have top surgery, but had regrets about transitioning and stopped. And Tumblr being Tumblr freaked out about it, because having regrets about being trans is the worst sin ever.

I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to write a strong enough OP myself. Decided to bite the bullet and post because the insanity has to be seen.

There's lots to cover, but my favorite tidbit you didn't mention is furbae's favorite furby, Swampy, who's been very poorly kept and deterorated heavily over the course of about five years.

What the fuck are they doing to that thing? You'd think that they'd want to keep it in good condition.

I've been informed apparently after he started getting dirty, people asked her to clean him....so now she never cleans him out of spite.

Cleaning a furby isn't hard, by the way. Theres't two little zipties keeping the skin in place that you can snip, remove, and handwash in a basin.

So much for being the favorite.

Perhaps this is another reason why most of the community has a bizarre vendetta against her?

Asked my friend who's a furby fandom veteran for more info. Furbae:

-Has four Limited Edition Kid Cuisine furbies priced at $200 each, and is using one for 'sunfade' testing, meaning she's leaving it out purposely in the sun to fade it's fur.
-Buys/bids on almost every furby that appears on eBay, creating false scarcity and leaving an actual mark on the 'furby economy'.
-Posts about being in financial distress despite buying hundreds of dollars worth of furbies.
-Probably has a hoarding problem.

I don't have any evidence to submit to prove these claims, unfortunately, but I'm sure there's some around.

That's a legitimate waste of money. If you really wanted to do sunfade testing on a Furby so badly, why not just buy one of the cheaper ones with bizarre patterns?

Are most of these Furby fans mainly fans of the old furbies, or is there a decent amount of modern Furby fans in the community? I know that a lot of fandoms tend to be divided when there's a lot of revivals or different versions of something. Just curious if it's the same with this community.

Good for her. She's actually trying to get better and apparently went to therapy at some point for her problems, unlike the majority of Tumblr users who claim to be Trans or to have some mental disorder.

I don't have an exact reason for why someone would do that to a rare Furby, but it's safe to assume that anyone who does that is 'special', if you know what I mean.

Seriously though, a normal person wouldn't damage anything valuable intentionally even if they weren't a fan or collector. A normal person would either sell it, keep it and take care of it simply because it's nice to own something rare (or, in the case of more personal things, because it has sentimental value or you just love the thing), or wait a while to sell it so its value goes up.

If you do anything else you're not right in the head.

Even during my time in the community everyone tended to swing towards the originals, though the 2005 revival had a sizable following as well. The 2012 line is definitely the most divisive of the three, mainly due to its reliance on the smartphone app and its LCD eyes, but even that version has its fans.

This made me bust my fucking gut laughing.

Also @Vyxenn are there other furby groups out there involved in drama, or is it pretty much confined to tumblr now?

There was quite a lot in the various Discord servers prior to them kicking me out because I wasn't an SJW. As for the fringe sites like AdoptAFurby, they tend to stay drama free mostly because they're where the younger fans go.

According to Furby Confessions submitters, one particular server, The Furby Brotherhood, is currently under fire of mistreatment of its members by the mods, and there's another Discord run by a guy named funnyfurby that they're going after for "overpricing" Furbies that he sells.

"The Furby Brotherhood" just made me lose it again

You did good. Honestly surprised that the community hasn't been brought up here yet considering they're very in vogue right now. I'll definitely stay around and see how deep this rabbit hole populated by adults playing with toys for ten-year-old girls goes.
