The Ghostbusters Thread (Old, New, Animated, Whatever)

With Top Critics, it still mingles at 50%, though.

Top Critics don't desperately suck as many dicks as they can find to get free tickets to get into the kind of shitty movies that are known to be bad in advance, where they have cattle calls to let in this kind of "critic."

A huge difference between the normal and top critics usually does signify hanky panky and ratings rigging.

The chasm between the critics reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and the reviews of fans on IMDB is staggering (IMDB is currently at 3.5). I know a lot of the reviewers on IMDB are fans of the originals who haven't seen this film, but I still haven't seen such a huge gulf between the two ratings.

Edit inspired from what Legatus said, to avoid double posting. What does anyone who knows more about box office results than me think this needs to make to count as a success for the film? I know it was made on a 140 million dollar budget, but I've heard that it takes a lot more for a film to even break even nowadays.

After the whole #gamergate debacle, I'm not sure why these sorts of people take movie reviewers as honest souls who would involve in cock-sucking (possibly literally) for positive reviews.

What's the consensus here about the reboot? Great opening week, then flop because it's awful?

Pretty much. They've primed the hype machine but word of mouth will be shit.

Most people will never have even heard about the nontroversy that has mainly been between legbeards and neckbeards.

Translation: We're going to milk the shit out of this franchise until its udders run dry.
It takes a lot of balls to go all in and not just assume your reboot will be a success, but that those sequels will keep making you money in the long run. That shit works for Disney because they've been planning the MCU and sequel Trilogy using tried and true methods of marketing, not insulting the audience.

Based on current views by non-critics, the movie appears to be....a 5 at best.

I'm thinking Batman V Superman all over again. It will be number one opening weekend and then crash to last place while making about 1/3 of it's production/advertising costs.
If it's lucky. Secret Lives of Pets is surprisingly a massive hit (already cleared $100m since it opened this weekend plus Finding Dory is close)
